Great honest video of the life of the usual Automotive TH-camr. Unfortunately a lot of it can also swing wildly with ad revenues all over the place depending on the time of the year. I love how honest Ben is.. they keep it real for the viewers. I personally came across this channel last year for that Alaska roadtrip video and I love their road trip videos
Honestly this makes me feel good seeing the actual truth behind automotive channels. Cars are such a commitment and with commitment comes attachment, but as the viewer I think we can all agree that it’s nice seeing new cars in the rotation because it gives us the viewers more to learn and insight. I’ve learned so much from your guys channel and It makes more excited each video I watch to build and own my own car one day. Thank you guys!
G&G, absolutely loving the genuine content! Thanks for not sugarcoating ‘influencer’ life and for giving us a bit of insight into what daily life as a TH-camr is actually like. Keep up the outstanding content, and we look forward to seeing where your channel goes!
I sold my car on C&B for 93% of my original purchase price, AFTER 3 years of ownership and driving it for 20,000 miles. It’s a great option for anybody with an enthusiast car, especially when you have a desirable spec. The people working there are super nice and helpful, and the community is a great resource. If you have thorough documentation and take great pictures, you’ll have no problem selling. Setting your auction to “No Reserve” is also a killer move that shows off how confident you are in your car’s condition. GLWS, Ben!
It's a catch 22 - you spend 3 months building it and another month tuning it and getting all the post build issues sorted - you want to use it and enjoy it, but if you do that, it's not a crispy, brand new build anymore. It starts to accumulate tire wear, bumps/scratches/dings from DD'ing and it only takes a couple of those before it's not a show car/bike anymore. So you end up having to go back and re-do stuff, replace tires, re-paint etc. It essentially turns into feeling like you're perpetually working on the damn thing, which can sour your taste to it.
i love it when youtubers take the time to explain to there viewers why they are making there choices and putting on there main platform and not some 2nd source
Thank you for sharing such information. As a viewer at times i get frustrated wanting to see a project finished only to see another car bought which needs just as much work as the other one, but as you explained, viewership ultimately determines what will happen.
There are several reasons why TH-camrs are often seen buying and selling cars. Firstly, cars are a popular topic among viewers and can generate a lot of views and engagement on their channel. Secondly, buying and selling cars can be an interesting and exciting experience, which can make for great content. Additionally, many TH-camrs have a passion for cars and enjoy exploring different models and brands. Finally, buying and selling cars can also be a lucrative business, with the potential to make a profit if done correctly. Overall, the combination of viewer interest, personal passion, and potential financial gain make buying and selling cars an attractive topic for many TH-camrs.
This was a really good video. Different from G&G's normal content but a great view of what goes on behind the scenes of Automotive TH-cam channels in order for them to continue making content.
From a business aspect it makes so much sense. From my perspective as a viewer, the reason I get a little sad about someone selling their car is because I saw the videos seeing the blood sweat and tears going into it, and I know deep down the person wants to enjoy it for a long time and they can't. That's what makes me sad.
Throughly appreciate G&G’s transparency on this topic. This side of automotive TH-cam isn’t all that complex but falls under the taboo nature of finance. We don’t need to treat it so discreetly and I’m glad G&G is open about how they like to function and keep the content up.
G & G is one of the few youtubers that feel genuine and a true fun bunch of guys trying to give us some good content. Sad to see the subie go but at least now we know there might be another cool project coming along. Wonder which Subaru it will be this time 😄
the boys from speed academy are so much more charasmatic than other youtubers. like their energy is just on another level. makes them so entertaining to watch
One thing that no one said in the video is that a new or different car unlocks a new audience. Its not just about more cars, but what the car is and how many people are into that platform. Hondas have a die hard audience, an RX7 is always going to do well because rarity and fast and the furious. Same could be said for really any of the JDM legend cars. But thats leaving out all the muscle car fans, so thats a whole other audience to unlock. I think thats a huge reason Adam has done so well. No one has a bigger variety of cars than he does.
I had a 2013 STi (GV) in satin white pearl for 6½ years. Did quite a lot to it, and learned a lot on that EJ257. Selling it was a hard decision, but at the same time it felt good to let it go to the next owner. I'll always be a Subie guy (might get another one later down the road who knows Lol). But anyways, I love and respect all makes and models.
Whatever you guys have to do to both make great content AND live fun, fulfilling lives without breaking the bank. We are all here for it. And please god sell official G&G stickers again. I want to support the channel with a sticker on every car I own (and my wife's. She wont notice)
It's always fun to build a car as a car enthusiast, but as a car TH-camr, after making videos of the car, you kind of max out the viewers of that type of car and the best thing to do is to move on to another platform to make more videos and attract new audiences.
From viewers' side: The demand of the "newest/latest" (modern-day consumerism) From content creators'/youtubers' side: Lack of a stable, periodic income to maintain and enjoy cars because of the concern for said demand. It's a cliché but a vicious cycle, eventually 😇 P.S. We definitely are in dire need of a European-equivalent of Cars And Bids - sorry for my ignorance, but i failed to find it even if there is one.
People like to forget the simplest business equation of all time which applies to every business ever. Profit = revenue - cost. TH-camr channels are businesses with employees. They're not exempt from that equation. Thanks for giving us some insight! Great video.
Good luck on the sale. I can relate getting attached to a car, especially after turning wrenches on it for so long. I hope that you get what you want out of it.
3:08 this shot with the RX was epic! The yellow lines on the ground reflecting off the side of the car made it look like it had flame decals which instantly reminded me of hotwheels.
Just gonna throw a 4th revenue generator out there that I think has bigger potential than Adsense, sponsors, or merch sales. Funneling viewers into another business that you own. I was a little surprised that you didn't mention that one, as it's exactly what Doug is doing with Cars and Bids (which sponsored this video lol) and in my opinion it's the big-brain 4D chess move. Really cool seeing all of the TH-camrs who participated in this. Nice work!
I think you guys missed a big part in my opinion which is the actual climate of the videos. I keep coming back to you guys because theres 2 of you with different personalities but each one gets me glued in their own way, the style of you guys’ channel is what made me a long time viewer I look forward to each saturday build vid!
It is an honest point of view, and many people who are getting into the scenario of filming content with this mindset, need to see this clip to have a clear perspective from someone that is actually doing now ...
Personally, the best videos on this channel are the road trip ones. It is always good to watch some nice views from a country, that is on the other end of the earth (pretty much literally), in which I would probably would never set foot in.
Channels like Junkyard Digs are my favorites for how often they get new cars because they are also bringing abandoned cars back to the road then moving them on to people who couldn't get them on the road and only vehicle that standout are kept, makes me wonder about the financial details though because they usually work with pre 80s vehicles so maybe it's easier to keep a collection. Certainly an enjoyable watch because we can vicariously experience their fun times, miss working on cars myself yet I simply had to give away the few vintage cars I owned because of a lack of storage space and needing to move house so often.
I like this cause you will eventually end up going thru a lot of different cars, and viewers might own some of them to take inspiration. I own a MR S and it is a joy seeing tall Ben make it into a track car.
Things that would make this channel much better: -Better style merch(the classic stuff G&G logo etc) -TH-camr budget build off with speed academy etc. -honestly if you have to do more ads in the video I don’t care as long as it translates to better fresh content. -Bring back the budget drag build off -budget off-roading build off -Budget rallycross build off Overall G&G is my favorite TH-cam channel then speed academy because both channels feels the same. I can’t tell you guys how happy it makes me feel to watch a G&G video.
I remember when You Tube's motto was 'broadcast yourself'. Now it's all about 'monetize yourself' It's always about making money in greedy America. I stopped watching corporate television years ago, because of all the ads, and so little good content. You Tube is going in the same direction, always about the ad revenue, not the content.
I always wondered whether the giveaway craze was a tax thing as well, but interesting to see Adam mention he might see a 10x return vs selling. That's a lot of merch! Great video and I loved all the guest spots you worked in.Doing anything else to that Subaru really would have taken it too far. On to the next!
Hey Ben! I think I speak for a lot of us but I would love to see more merch! You guys build cars with purpose and are actively racing them as well which I truly respect. In exchange for quality content I definitely do not mind (actually I want to) buy some merch; and in return we get to see more quality videos! Please consider it!
Thank you gentleman for sharing. This is a business and I understand that. Like any business you're working with the resources you have access to. Thus to move forwards up the mountain you'll have to lighten your load. In my eyes seeing you do this is only for us the audience and you have my respect. 🫡 I'll keep watching as I look forwards to all your videos on Saturday morning. 😊
This is great insight to those trying to build up a channel and many of the hurdles being faced. The giveaway mindset is definitely a difficult one to get around. Great content and awesome guests. Now I'm not a fan of the brus but the content is great!
Most rich people stay rich by spending like the poor and investing without stopping then most poor people stay poor by spending like the rich yet not investing like the rich but impressing them
Even though digital currency has taken over the world, people still work for people. So, why not consider buying stocks and crypto and holding onto them?
That's a great point! With the rise of digital currency, investing in stocks and crypto can be a smart move. It's a way to potentially grow your wealth and secure your financial future.
Glad to see you guys filter out which products you'll promote. A lot of TH-camrs I watch were at one point promoting that crap where you can buy some land in Scotland and be deemed as some sort of lord. Even after this was exposed as being a deceptive scam, some TH-camrs were promoting it after the fact.
Agreed. And I used to be a massive Subaru fanboy back in the day, that's how my car enthusiasm started. Back then, I saw a video saying "People think Subarus are reliable because people are willing to put the money in to fix it". That loud and brash boy racer liking fanboy in me back in the day didn't get it back in the day, but as I've diversified interested in other brands and forms of cars, I totally get it now. Besides, Subaru in their present state is nothing more than a huge joke now they're killing off their performance nameplates and making generic appliances. Oh, but it has a boxer engine and AWD, so it must be better than other generic appliances right?
If anything the critical comments are needed to hopefully steer younger car enthusiasts away from wasting all their money to make their cars worse. Spending 100k on an STI is financial suicide. This is coming from a longtime Subaru fan.
One thing that no TH-camr talks about with selling or giving away cars, or other assets, is how that balances the books. I doubt Ben gets back what he put into it, and that means the STI is likely to bring G&G a massive tax write off. Just like it is in big corporate, the finance team always makes the decisions.
I am a little surprised to see this one go to be honest. I genuinely figured the RX7 and RX8 would have been on the chopping block. Like I sure you've got some stuff that you'll never sell. The Civic and Escort come to mind, but this car also seemed like after everything you had done that it would have been a keeper. I totally get the reason just figured it would have been some other stuff first.
Yeah, when you don't think about it, you'd think the favourites would stay, but since the cars are part of the channel, no work assigned for them means no videos to shoot & upload and no money to earn. Since both the RX-7 and RX-8 still have some unfinished business (not sure about the RX-7 now tho), those cars can keep generating video ideas.
I appreciate that you guys do this the way you do, its hard to stomach alot of these youtubers gotten rich off merch sales, some have been doing it for a decade and has millions of dollars in cars and houses and what not and often not doing a lot either... I know I could not do it, that said, selling good quality back packs and hoodies and what not if people end up wearing them, thats not all bad, people will need clothes but I bet a lot of it just get bought and barely if ever used, just to "support" this guy that could not bother getting a real job... I dont have a problem with the content per say or people doing it, but in many cases it gets very excessive, on the other hand, a big part of this is the beast it self, TH-cam and how it all works, and I dont think I have a better solution to these "problems" so it is what it is... Keep up the amazing work boys, and stay safe!
I love cars. My list of cars i wanna own grows dailey. Buying and selling allows you to do this. At onepoint i owned 6 cars at once. It sucks i cant drive them all at once. And they need to be driven. Also the sheer cost of registration insurance and maintence slows down your ability to enjoy them properly. Ive since dropped down to owning 2 or 3 and its much more enjoyable. Allowing me to save more to spend on future dream cars. Cars are a hobbie and hobbies cost money but hobbies that you can afford are more fun thsn hobbies you cant. Some cars youll miss more than others but ultimately will be glad for the time you had them.
It’s crazy because this is the channel that motivated me to buy my Sti which I wanted for 10 plus years, sadly I had to let it go to buy a truck and open my business. Now 44 I’m not sure if I should buy one again, although I miss it all the time.

Can't believe I woke up early to watch this painful process😅
Thanks for giving us a look behind the veil. Hope it sells well!!!
Not everyone can be the stradman
DDE
Wrong, you just need to be lucky and make cringe car content videos
@@alphaenterprise2232 cue that awful music
Can't stand either of stradman or dde. Dde videos seems staged and Corny af
@@mattxr4 DDE's videos of the Hurcan with the smashed windshield ended up being a commercial for some car accident/injury lawyers lol
GLWS, Ben!
Good to know!
You have so much money tied up into that whip. Can't say I'd ever dump money into a Subaru but I'm happy you did it for us 😊.
Tbh, this is like a scaled up version of most car guys life, just as a living instead of supporting the hobby. Its a good way to explain it
i love it when youtubers take the time to explain to there viewers why they are making there choices and putting on there main platform and not some 2nd source
I love how transparent this channel is!
Pete and Dave! Two of my three favorite Canadians!
Along with Thomas and James from Throttle House.
I love how honest gears and gasoline is, truly my favorite automotive creator around. Very down to earth.
From a business aspect it makes so much sense. From my perspective as a viewer, the reason I get a little sad about someone selling their car is because I saw the videos seeing the blood sweat and tears going into it, and I know deep down the person wants to enjoy it for a long time and they can't. That's what makes me sad.
Just wanted to say thanks for making this video.
An honest, clear and straight forward look at things is always appreciated 🙏
I appreciate the transparency about how it works for car TH-camrs.
Two of my favorite channels with the least amount of ads, G & G and Devin Niemelia
I love how open you guys talk about stuff like this and touch these topics!
From viewers' side: The demand of the "newest/latest" (modern-day consumerism)
From content creators'/youtubers' side: Lack of a stable, periodic income to maintain and enjoy cars because of the concern for said demand.
It's a cliché but a vicious cycle, eventually 😇
Thanks for the transparency on how the business works.
Wow the cars and bids Ad got me 🎉😊
Mark is definitely not happy especially after doing that roof 😂
7:49 i’m a bit worried now because i love this channel and you have not been getting 5 million views in 10 videos ❤😂
I like this cause you will eventually end up going thru a lot of different cars, and viewers might own some of them to take inspiration.
I own a MR S and it is a joy seeing tall Ben make it into a track car.
Content, content, and more content!!
Cars and Bids… Doug is taking over the world, and I love it!!
Things that would make this channel much better:
-Better style merch(the classic stuff G&G logo etc)
-TH-camr budget build off with speed academy etc.
-honestly if you have to do more ads in the video I don’t care as long as it translates to better fresh content.
-Bring back the budget drag build off
-budget off-roading build off
-Budget rallycross build off
Overall G&G is my favorite TH-cam channel then speed academy because both channels feels the same. I can’t tell you guys how happy it makes me feel to watch a G&G video.
My go to cartoons on Saturday mornings are G&G and Speed Academy. Love both of their content and style.
Without monetization, creating content is not possible long term as everything requires money, it's that simple.
The transparency and honesty is refreshing. As automotive TH-cam viewers, we know the game.
EXTREMELY LOVE THE HONESTY!
Good luck in selling the sti, can't wait to see what's next for you guys!
The dude that bought this basically stole it.... i was expecting it to go for at least $55-60K
That sti was one of the reasons why i bought my wrx. Sad to see it go but excited for new projects
it made me like the sti and i willl buy one when I get money
Still holding on my STI after 7 years. Perfect set up with 20g turbo, killer b equal header, Cusco bracing, Volk wheels and Recaro sr7 seats.
Thank you gentleman for sharing.
This is a business and I understand that. Like any business you're working with the resources you have access to. Thus to move forwards up the mountain you'll have to lighten your load. In my eyes seeing you do this is only for us the audience and you have my respect. 🫡
I'll keep watching as I look forwards to all your videos on Saturday morning. 😊
G&G and Buddy DIY are some of those automotive yt that differs themselves with other. The insight information is just crazy.
This is great insight to those trying to build up a channel and many of the hurdles being faced. The giveaway mindset is definitely a difficult one to get around. Great content and awesome guests. Now I'm not a fan of the brus but the content is great!
Most rich people stay rich by spending like the poor and investing without stopping then most poor people stay poor by spending like the rich yet not investing like the rich but impressing them
People prefer to spend money on liabilities, Rather than investing in assets and be very profitable
You are so correct! Save, invest and spend for necessities and a few small luxuries relatives to one's total assets ratio.
Making a living is becoming more challenging, and it's difficult for me to save enough to enjoy quality time with my loved ones.
Even though digital currency has taken over the world, people still work for people. So, why not consider buying stocks and crypto and holding onto them?
That's a great point! With the rise of digital currency, investing in stocks and crypto can be a smart move. It's a way to potentially grow your wealth and secure your financial future.
Thank you guys for your efforts and all the best selling sti
Called it! I said it way back in during the build of this car. I said there would be a video about it being sold.
8:51 bro these comments are facts and not toxic. if you are triggered by them, then don’t do TH-cam
The quality of videos is 👌 all the extra effort shows
One thing that no TH-camr talks about with selling or giving away cars, or other assets, is how that balances the books. I doubt Ben gets back what he put into it, and that means the STI is likely to bring G&G a massive tax write off.
Just like it is in big corporate, the finance team always makes the decisions.
Appreciate the transparency yo!
the CARS AND BIDS ad at 2:04 was so seamless I didn't even realize I was being advertised to
I have always appreciated the exceptional transparency on this show. Much respect.
Appreciate what you do G&G❤
This was an awesome video, thanks for the transparency lil Ben!!
@@yongling9825 there are also more contents for subarus than rx7. so they can still milk the rotary some more.
Beautifully explained, love the honesty. Just makes me like you guys and wish you well forwards even more.
Mark gonna be pissed for that roof 😂
Really good summary and very insightful!
You guys have fabulous automotive content.
Because they need content.. love you guys!
It’s crazy because this is the channel that motivated me to buy my Sti which I wanted for 10 plus years, sadly I had to let it go to buy a truck and open my business. Now 44 I’m not sure if I should buy one again, although I miss it all the time.
G&G another automotive TH-camr y’all should have interviewed is Sammit an automotive TH-camr in Japan.
I wish I could afford Ben’s STI. It seems very well done. Best wishes to the new owner
I clicked so fast! Honestly I love this channel 😄
great video, thanks for sharing! hope the auction goes well 👍
