  • Electronic Press Kit Interview with Bobby Brown was distributed to music retailers and journalists in support of his 1992 CD, BOBBY.
    Robert Barisford Brown (born February 5, 1969) is an American singer, songwriter, rapper, dancer and actor. Brown, alongside frequent collaborator Teddy Riley, is noted as a pioneer of new jack swing; a fusion of hip hop and R&B. Brown started his career in the R&B and pop group New Edition, from its inception in 1981[2] until his exit from the group in December 1985.
    Starting a solo career, Brown enjoyed commercial and critical success with his second album Don't Be Cruel (1988) which spawned five Billboard Hot 100 top 10 singles including the number one hit "My Prerogative", and the Grammy Award-winning "Every Little Step". In 1989, Brown contributed two songs to the soundtrack of Ghostbusters II. In 1992, Brown married singer Whitney Houston, with whom he had a daughter named Bobbi Kristina Brown. The couple's drug abuse and domestic disputes made them tabloid fodder.
    Brown's next album Bobby (1992) spawned several hit singles including "Humpin' Around", "Get Away," and "Good Enough." However, sales of Bobby did not match its predecessor. Some surmise that this may have been due to Brown's recent marriage to Houston, and his decision to take a break from the business for reasons involving his marriage and impending new-fatherhood. - Wikipedia

    Right before his wife's career skyrocketed to new heights with her first film and the soundtrack that came after, BB and his career would take a backseat during this period. _Bobby_ had hits but it was criminally slept on. If I was him, I would've dropped the _Mystical Magic_ (unreleased/shelved) exactly one year after _DBC_ (and 2 more albums) in the vein of Prince as Prince released _Sign o' the Times_ to _Diamonds and Pearls_ in that same period. But it's amazing how _DBC_ had Bobby hot longer than four years. _DBC_ and _Bobby_ are undisputed classics. #RIPWhitneyHouston

    • @atiyahsaleemah8659
      @atiyahsaleemah8659 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      You’re actual and factual. I really wish he would’ve released that album before all of the hype about his marriage overshadowed his true career which was proving to be very promising, if he had kept really going strong. Love will make you do some crazy things and act in crazy ways. Wish the two of them knew how to balance things better, so they could’ve be equally successful, you know? From the leaked tracks I’ve heard and when he use to perform Tap Into My Heart, Mystical Magic had some great songs!

    • @DavidRichardson95
      @DavidRichardson95 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@atiyahsaleemah8659 BB could've honestly struck while the iron was hot. '88 was _Don't Be Cruel_ '89 could've been _Mystical Magic_ '90 he could've collaborated a lot more with Flyte Time, Teddy Riley or even used his wife's producer Narada Michael Walden for some hits and late '91 should have been _Bobby_ in that order. I believe he was also supposed to have a starring role in _Toy Soldiers_ along with Lou Gossett Jr. because when he was asked about his plans for the decade on _Video Soul_ he said Lou Gossett Jr. wanted him to star in a film with him called _Go Beverly_ but they got never got the chance. So with a little bit of research I'm assuming that _Toy Soldiers_ was supposed to be the film. In the meantime, Bobby had toured for three years solid and made about $30 million from the album and the tour (domestic and international).

      @Alex Kanyima He had problems before Whitney (three children out of wedlock, sexual antics on stage, perceived unprofessionalism with his group, etc.) but it didn't come to light until him and Whitney started dating and eventually marry. Plus when they first met she was already a superstar with a squeaky clean image aka "America's Sweetheart" and he was the Bad Boy of R&B. Two stars red hot early in their careers. But as the music transitioned somewhat his career began to take a backseat and after _Bobby_ he had roles in movies like _Panther_ and _Thin Line_ as he was also supposed to do _A Goofy Movie_ complete with the soundtrack but was replaced and Tevin Campbell did some of the songs due to his drug use. The music faltered, I would've already been in 3 sitcoms, 5 movies, etc. if I was him.

    • @DavidRichardson95
      @DavidRichardson95 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Alex Kanyima I mean I would have done sitcoms and movies by the time the music started to die down.

    • @mariahyohannes
      @mariahyohannes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jamesb.3869 Yes his drug use was bad in 1985. If you can't go on stage and perform without a bump of cocaine than you are an addict. His behavior was erratic, always arguing and always fighting. Ricky Bell said he & Bobby were about to smoke a blunt (weed) and Bobby already had it rolled, Ricky said when took a hit of it, he had an intense high and his head was pounding, he said weed never made him feel like that before, Bobby didn't tell him until after that he had laced the weed with coke. Do you know how evil you have to be to lace someone's weed with a substance they never took before and only tell them after they took a puff ? They had every right to kick him out in 85'. A junkie can't give a proper performance and a junkie isn't prompt. All Bobby had to do after getting kicked out was go to rehab and work on getting clean, but he did not. Instead he made himself the victim which he seems to do A LOT.

    • @jamesb.3869
      @jamesb.3869 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mariahyohannes bob has never made himself the victim. He always own up to his mistakes. It’s when he says that others have a problem also it’s an issue. It’s not Bob fault that Rick smoked his blunt. I watched that interview, Bob should‘nt have to look out for Rick, they knew what he was doing in by the late 90s. Rick took a hit of Bob’s cigarette that he already had rolled up. If ricky was disoriented, do you really think Bobby was in any condition to talk then. Because according to Whitney’s brother, Bobby was a lightweight when it came to drugs. It’s nice how you tried to the spin the facts. There is not even a shred of evidence to suggest that Bobby did drugs before every performance and I mean NONE. All he has ever said that his drug use became an everyday thing after he got married. Also he was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder the in early 2000s. Judging by his erratic behavior at some points he could’ve easily had it by the mid to late 80s. Because he said he has had mood swing problems for decades. Combined with alcohol and substances abuse would set anybody of the edge. Wym can’t give a proper performance the only problem that New edition had with Bobby is that he wasn’t complying with the bubblegum image like the rest of them and kept going over the set time for the songs he led on. He also tired of management stealing money from and them and playing them as fools. That’s the main reason he acted out. Bob was already on his way out the door when they kicked him out of the group. Bob told Ralph that he was thinking about leaving the group. If he did not know how to give a proper performance, he would have not have made so much money touring. Also Bobby was not the only one that was missing tour dates, Johnny is the only one to never miss a show. And when one of the singers were out Bob had to cover for them. The only home again footage available on the internet is a show that Ricky missed because of his drug use. Bobby sing lead for BBD, himself, and new edition that night. Also how was he going afford rehab when he got kicked out. They no money to afford it, they were still living in the projects.

    • @nlee4566

    Back to 1992! When he was released his 3rd album Bobby, it was overshadowed and overtaken by - Whitney's superstardom of acting like The Bodyguard, the R&B landscape was changing fast with the likes of R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, Tevin Campbell, Hi-Five in general. New Jack Swing at that time was on its way out as well. Bobby, BBD's Hootie Mack, JG's Provocative and RT's It's Going Down albums were a flop.

      @Daniel Nelson not exactly a flop but when your last Album does 8 million then your next one just does 3 million, the label looks at that as a flop

      He should've done an album backed by Devante Swing

      Lol! Since when did R Kelly, Mary J Blige, Jodeci and Hi-Five have a world tour with Budweiser and Coca-Cola sponsoring it??? Those acts couldn't even sell outside America so overall he still outdid them. You people love to pretend he wasn't more popular than bandmates, especially overseas!!!

      @@lulumyataza7894 Bobby was a megastar but at this time those acts were hotter and on thier way to the top. Especially Mary and Jodeci. The hottest acts in rnb in 1992/93.

    Too bad he drove Whitney to the ground. If she had gotten away from him she would still be around.
