Hi I make leather bracelets using dyed braided cord leather, but the dye comes off, is there something I can do to stop this happening please Fran thanks
Hi Rena, Personal preference, they are both great products but I've just had really good results with the Leather Balm so I gravitate towards that one. :)
I learned early on to never dye the flesh side of any project like a belt or bracelet because as you point out, sooner or later it will come off on your wrist or maybe an expensive pair of pants. Luckily they were my pants, so lesson learned. That is why I wondered why you dipped dyed the cuff, are you planning to line it?
fiebings pro dye doesn't rub off, Ive done many bracelets, belts and guitar straps and have never experienced rub off, not even when used on stage (i.e. extremely sweaty conditions).
Hello, The only dye I use is Pro Dye from Fiebings because it has an oil-based dye stuff versus a powder stuff which is found in most other dyes and that tends to sit on top of the leather. This is why with the Pro Dye I have almost no worries about rub off at all.
Hi Sue, The Pro Dye has an alcohol base with an oil-based dyestuff, whereas a straight alcohol dye will be alcohol based dye and alcohol-based dyestuff. Check out the following video where Chuck explains the difference and why one is called oil dye and one is called alcohol dye: th-cam.com/video/zokhe6oxhjc/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps!
Hi Ashley, Yes, you can! If you don't want the antique finish to discolor the dye, you can add a resist on top of the dye and then antique. The antique will then just sin into the tooled and stamped areas.
Hi Sue, I use a piece of packing paper or paper bag on top of a plastic trash bag, the paper keeps the dye from pooling and the plastic keeps it from soaking into my workbench. Easy cleanup and no mess!
Hi there, you can use leather stain or leather dye! Whatever works best for you. Chuck loves the Fiebing's Pro Dye for his projects but there are lots of great options and we always encourage you to use whatever works best for your specific products.
Awesome video!
Question: We cannot order antique finish or in California. What would you recommend to get those stamps that same “pop” look?

Why would you choose Atom Wax over Resolene? Is one better than the other or is it personal preference? Thank you.

You mention these are oil based dyes but all the bottles listed say alcohol based. Is there somewhere else i should be looking for the oil based?

Hi, could you also use the saddle lac as a top coat in this case? Or would that be the wrong top coat for some reason?
You can! Chuck has used Saddlelac in the past.
Can you use the antique finish over the colored dye?
Hi Ashley,
Yes, you can! If you don't want the antique finish to discolor the dye, you can add a resist on top of the dye and then antique. The antique will then just sin into the tooled and stamped areas.
Hi, are you using paper on top of the liner to work on or something else? This is all new to me.
