I was at Mizzou during the Hippie Dippie late ‘60s. Boy has the place changed since I was there. I used to hang out at the Ivanhoe restaurant/bar, but I See they changed it to Chipotles grill now, had some dynamite times at the Ivanhoe, we used to listen to the Sound Farm Band there on the week-ends. Shakespeare pizza used to be a one story wood & half brick building that housed a cafe with a laundry mat in the building behind it. We hung in McCalister park, called Peace park now. In the park we had love-ins & concerts, but I see the lush grass we used to lay around in, is now paved over for a parking lot, sad. I see the Shack is gone too, a Beetle Bailey statue stands in its place now. Really I had to watch this video twice, but I still didn’t see anything I recognized from my time there. Ahh progress.
Thanks for this video! My rising senior is strongly considering Mizzou (my dad’s alma mater) for Fall ‘22, and this was a nice first look from an insider’s POV.
I just started as a freshman, I think the place is pretty good so far. I really don't think the university should be defined by whatever dramatization the media makes or the idiots in the comments want to call it. The Fact of the matter is, most students are too occupied with making friends, studying, and having fun to worry about those things. Mizzou will be at the forefront of making institutional changes for the better, so at least we can celebrate that.
Kappa Alpha used to fly a huge Confederate battle flag out in front of their house for years & years. But you can guess why they were ORDERED to take it down & never fly it again. Sad.the narrator said Kappa Alpha was founded by Robert E. Lee, he is wrong! Kappa Alpha was founded in 1865 by 4 southern men. James Ward Woods, William Nelson Scott, Stanhope McClelland Scott, & William Archibald Wash. The narrator needs to do his homework, he went to Mizzou & he doesn’t know KA history?
Nice video! I have enjoyed attending the University of Missouri for the past two and a half years, and I started just after this video was uploaded! The climate here is definitely a lot better now than it was when I started, but it didn't seem too dramatic when I started either. People made it out to be a terrible place for some reason, but it really is not that bad.
Definitely not a terrible place. Was very thankful for my time there. Lots of great memories. The were and are just issues that are not cool and needed to be addressed. I wish nothing but a bright future for Mizzou. Sad to see the athletic department was cheating in the academic sector of the athletes.
I remember there being a good amount of events and clubs for international students. If you are set on going I would say go. If you still have questions then do some more research and maybe call the school.
@@NicksDynasty Thank you for the reply sir. I am not American, I'd like to apply to this uni for a masters program. Would you say that is a good idea, if not why?
@@TheStainlessFish it depends on your program and how much you want to spend. If they are ranked well in the program you are interested in or.if you think the price is good I would say yes. @@TheStainlessFish mostly was mentioning it because I believe other schools may provide more diversity such as activities, amenities around the school, culture and opportunities after graduation. Mizzou’s J School is the first in the world and the best in the world (David is mistaken). Also, Jesse Hall is not the tallest building in Columbia. Tiger Hotel, Rise and Paguin Tower all taller. The Maneater is the independent student paper (not affiliated with the J School).
The college rankings tend to fluctuate. "The tallest building in Columbia is Jesse Hall, which rises 180 feet (55 m) over Francis Quadrangle on the University of Missouri campus. The second tallest building is Paquin Tower in Downtown Columbia at 172 feet. Also downtown, the Tiger Hotel"
That’s sad :(.... it unfortunately doesn’t surprise me though. Missouri, or at least parts of here, are filled with some of the most racist people I know. I never understood racism. I hope it continues to die down.
