  • Ashley Cain is a former professional footballer and TV personality. In 2020, his 8-week-old daughter Azaylia Cain was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia. During Azaylia’s battle with cancer, Ashley and Azaylia’s mum, Safiyya, raised over £1 million in 24 hours for her health care. After her death in April 2021, at just 8 months old, Ashley and Safiyya set up ‘The Azaylia Foundation’, which supports families and provides memorable experiences for children fighting cancer.
In this episode, Ashley shares with Jake and Damian everything the life and loss of Azaylia has taught him. They discuss how the struggle can make us appreciate the small moments, staying present and connected to those in our life. Ashley shares how “even though my heart is broken into a million pieces, that’s a million pieces of love I can share with others in this world”.

Listened to this on my way home from work. Thought this was so hard to listen to but as you said about the book a great listen/ read.
Really resonate with Ashley about his mind set of in tough times you have to meet it head on. Lost my mum to cancer in 2021 and ran 100 miles in under 24 hours for charity. Raised a good amount.
Using that mindset of “tough times don’t last, tough people do”, really helped me through the grief. Having that underlying purpose is so unique and powerful it’s unmatched. We can do anything we think of with that mindset.
His purpose is greater than mine was. I obviously heard what was happening to them as a family at the time and thought it was unbelievably sad; however driving home now to my 7 week old son hits me differently.
Wish you all the fortune and success you can think of. Keep at it 💪🏼

After watching that I feel two things are for sure, 1. That man will make a huge positive difference to the world for as long as he is on it 2. He will be with his daughter again, keeping that faith is what drives us and it’s hugely powerful.

    My word.
I came to see the conversation between Ashley and Damian at the end, and I cried again. It was pleasing to see that it didn't look as uncomfortable as it felt, and ended really well.
I honestly feel like this was the one.

Ashley and Safiyya my thoughts are with you both. The fight seams endless, the disappointments are relentless, the end is momentous. Your memories will soften and joy will take over. You both did all that was possible, and Azaylia knew you loved her, and that is the best feeling anyone can ever have. James Tucker. Siobhans Trust. Feeding Ukraine. Wendy 1948-2009

I’m not going to subscribe, sorry. But you two fellas are lovely and that chat with Ashley Cain, just wow. I was in tears majority of it but unless your heart is made of stone, Ashley’s chat about his beautiful little girl is just heartbreaking. And I do understand what Ashley meant by there was always hope, I was the same with my mum when she was passing. Until it happens you hang on to hope. Good luck Ashley on your trip of a life time. I pray you’ll return safely. 🧡🦁

This was gut wrenching 😢, had to pause from time to time coz it had me emotional 😭. I truly wish him more strength… that being said @1:50:00 it felt like, my gut feeling was Mmmhh 🤔 is he thinking about ending it. At least for me that’s how it felt and after that he got a bit defensive, I really hope he goes for some help/therapy to help him through his grieving process 🙏🏾. Great lad …

This is the first episode of high performance I’ve listen to coming purely for Ashley and ngl I think these guys have been the worst at interviewing him I’ve seen! He’s spoken of the racism he’s raced in childhood in his book and you go straight in saying talking about his testicle being the worst thing to happen to him at that point in life. I just feel like that was in bad taste to begin with and can tell Ashley thought so too! Then just brining up awkward things can tell they’ve not done research and listened to his other stuff where he talks about his s opinion on getting counciling and things like that the episode was good cos i love this man’s story but these two were just annoying ngl
