Mark, I am about to begin a job that normally requires clean shaven men for the normal respirator to seal. It is Emissions Testing in refineries & the like. But I have a full beard for spiritual reasons. My boss is open to it but is asking the clients if something like this is acceptable to them. I fear that their safety managers will not budge based on their own laziness or prejudice. What am I to do? If these are NIOSH approved, shouldn't they be fine with it?
With a full beard that stops the elastic from contacting your skin they recommend using the skirted/apron hood. That’s what we require at my hospital. Every papr I’ve ever dealt with has some specialty hood for men with a full beard. And PAPRs are the preferred ppe, so they shouldn’t have a leg to stand on if they want to challenge it.
sorry, I'm not sure. I don't work for 3m, but a nursing educator training his staff. I would reach out to 3m before relying on any specific chemical protection.
The hood is reusable. Sorry I don't have details on anything other than how to use it. I'm not affiliated with the company, I just make videos for my staff to reference for use of the products we have in house.
Real Protection with real technology. Thank you 3M ! :-)
Cool !!!
