      Thank you so much! it was really important for us to have a reliable source of water and we ended up going for a property with on grid water at the boundary.

      we ended up having access but the road is too tight for a lorry to turn into our property... 🤣 so they had to dump our gravel delivery on the public road.... all the best

    Did any of the properties you saw have habitation license?I t seems to be a big deal in Portugal. Because some just can't get permit from the council, and it Takeshi quite some time to get the permit from the council.

    • @HoneymoonCampers
      @HoneymoonCampers  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Some of them did as they were houses (more like ruins) in urban area. We decided to go with a plot of land within an urban area with a house project already approved - the licence will be issued once the house is built but until then we will be staying there in a caravan / camper which shouldn'd be a problem. Hope this helps

      @rafaelrafa2765 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Just because it's got a ruin it doesn't mean it's legal, I think alot of people (foreigners) are seing Portugal as a easy way to just buy a ruin, spend a few euros and get it rebuild, no, even to ask for planning permission or something to do with councils take ages to sort mixed with corruption. Do your due diligence and check everything by yourselves as the person that is selling simply wants to get the money and disappear. I'm Portuguese and I own a land where I simply asked for a planning permission to build a wall in front of the land in front of the main road, guess how long to get the planning permission, 1 month, 6 months? Nop it's 4 years atm mixed with 5 meetings at the council and nothing sorted.
      Also, if you decide to rebuild something without planning permissions etc bare in mind that all it takes is 1 nosey neighbour to look and report you and you might end up with everything demolished or a fine.
      Do your due diligence, get a lawyer to look into it. Do not listen to the well dressed sellers, 95% of them only care about the ridiculous amount of profit they make from people abroad as they know people will pay anything atm

      @HoneymoonCampers  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@rafaelrafa2765 very valuable comment - thank you. this is one of the reasons why we decided to buy land with a construction project already approved instead of a ruin. All the best to you Rafael!

    • @junehitchcock170
      @junehitchcock170 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rafaelrafa2765 good advice. Thank you. I have been watching the ridiculous prices just because foreigners are interested in moving to these places. Often what they are buying is just a plot of land. The cost of rebuilding of ruins hasn’t been realistically costed in and many of of these ruins are out in the middle of nowhere. The owners would find it difficult to get craftmen to come out that far to renovate and then communicate in Portuguese!!

    who did you work with to find property in Castela Branco region

    • @HoneymoonCampers
      @HoneymoonCampers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      we contacted each agent separately via the idealista website and went from there :)

  • @hanazuki333
    @hanazuki333 ปีที่แล้ว

    Those prices are realyl good affordable , all the other youtubers who join a real estate agent are pushing prices into the 50.000 euro. Almost every video is above or around the 50k.
    I bet you every one incl the TH-camr is getting a cut from it.

    • @HoneymoonCampers
      @HoneymoonCampers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does seem like prices for foreigners are a lot higher. We had no problem finding affordable properties but it does require some google translating and actually speaking to locals rather than just estate agents. Best thing you can do is actually be in Portugal when looking!

    • @HoneymoonCampers
      @HoneymoonCampers  ปีที่แล้ว

      yes it is! great access, water and electricity at the boundary, it's part urban too with an approved house project.

      it's not the most reliable, but if you are prepared to walk around with your router to find the best signal then it's possible. We will be investing in Starlink as we need a good connection.

    Don’t do it! Properly is very inexpensive in the center of Portugal, I wonder what the problem could possibly be? Well here is a few things to consider. Water is seasonal, no water in summertime however, this is compounded by forest fires. Our bugs eat lumber, our contractors here will eat your money, then poof, they disappear. The laws favor the locals. I promise, you will never fit in, your kindness will be used against you.
    We have lived in Portugal for four years, don’t do anything permanent until you spend a year or two getting to know your way around.

      What a nonsense... If anyone decide to move to Portugal, them obey the law & order is more than welcome!! The crises in Portugal is no down to the amount of foreigner's moving to this beautiful country but down to the bad Politicians/Administrators. I will be moving to Portugal in couple years time and I know I will love this nation with all my heart! Anyway guys good luck to your searching and keep us posted :)

    Did you look at the climate near Castelo Branco? Boiling hot in summer and freezing cold in winter.
    Do you want a better climate? Go to coastal Alentejo and bring 10 times more money with you.

    • @HoneymoonCampers
      @HoneymoonCampers  ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah the climate in Castelo is what took us back to the Coimbra region and that's where we ended up buying. Thanks
