    1:00, listen to when he says finger, instead he says vinegar, and at 1:40 he doesn't say salt and vinegar he just says salt, and allows you to finish the sentence off in your head. He puts the idea of vinegar in your head before you even choose it, without even knowing it. He doesn't read your mind or anything like that he isn't psychic, he just plants an idea in your head and knows you will go along with it, making him look psychic.

      Frankie Gonzalez-Wilkes I have researched subliminal messages before - but in reality they are not very effective. Maybe this did help but there is no way he knew he was going to buy vinegar and only vinegar.

    took a second view to catch that seed. As far as predicting his path, Darren pointed and suggested for him to start going left. When he said, "if you prefer up through there" (pointing left), his tone of voiced changed to imply a more desirable route. Then when he sends him off he steps off to the left as if to create a path for him to start walking in that direction.

    Darren is amazing, even if i catch him out and realise he pushed vinegar before it's revealed he throws a massive curve-ball with the path. Genius.

    You guys haven't caught ALL the references to vinegar, and you haven't figured out how he controls the movement.
    1. The Big One-the envelope. the paper is soaked in vinegar(slightly) so if the guy investigates, it smells slightly. it has the map route, but thats more to spank the guy when he watches back.
    2. verbal cues. finger/vinegar, salt and (vinegar) crisps. darren tells him to ignore milk and eggs.
    3. Helpers! all other routes are blocked, so he MUST go where darren walks. watch it again.

  • @jonydude
    @jonydude 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I FIGURED IT OUT!!! It's all in the editing. All this was genuinely filmed, and the shopper genuinely was not in on it, but the magic happened in the cutting room. The sign was written and put on his back AFTER he selected the vinegar, but when he "watched it back" would have been surprised to see that it was written on BEFORE he selected it, by reversing the order of the clips. Very well done though.

  • @harukun
    @harukun 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    the path was ingrained on the envelope and he was reminded of it again by the big red sign over the multicolored flowers.... he had been influenced starting from 6 days prior.... it's actually quite simple... the seeding you're speaking of is merely slight enforcement and he would have chosen that path anyway. As for picking out the vinegar, that was what was at the end of the path. Darren clearly knew what was in that isle so... yeah.

      @jessiejames7492 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kasey Escape yeah hard to believe ..some say its power of suggestion. he will put it in the persons mind. some people are more susceptible to that and post hynotic suggestion..that is they hypnotise a person and then tell that person he will act so and so when he is hypnotised..and when he awakes he will do exactly that with a certain 'word'that activates that action.. I have seen that done. Dont know what tricks he has up his sleeve. One thinng i read , darren brown does extensive research even check on the people hes going to work with. Not all are randoml Some scientists will tell you its ALL SCIENTIFIC.

    As ever, I do not believe this. I think something like this would have to happen to me before I could believe it is possible to put such a complex idea into someones head. No way would my subconscious be able to recall and control the way I walk through a shop so precisely without the products overriding that influence and not for 1 second do I believe that hearing the word "vinegar" could compel me to select vinegar - I would always go for an ingredient that had special significance to me or something which caught my eye.

      Kasey Escape these kinds of tricks dont work on everyone. also, remember to factor in that people know they are on TV with Darren Brown....now, consider how psychics and faith healers use group settings and environmental things to manipulate a crowd and get them to participate in group activities.
      ....the point is: this doesn't work on everyone and its works best if the subject has some pressure to succeed, like being in front of an audience. its the same reason why doctors get positive results from giving sugar pills (placebo effect) and why naturopathic doctors are able to get their patients to buy anything....there is an heir of authority associated with the task, which helps aid the mind into doing what it thinks it's supposed to do. in other words: this works best on follower types and 'workaholic' types, they are prone to following orders and doing things mindlessly so they can accomplish tasks they dont readily want to do.

    • @J.L.Media.
      @J.L.Media. 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      KandaPanda I don't think this is the same thing as being pressured by the setting. I get how a person is likely to be less focused and more agreeable when there's an audience or something watching them, but this was an idea placed into someones head - I can't see how that could happen. I also don't think it's quite the same thing as a placebo. They work because people want them too and in fact continue to work when the patient has been told they are placebos. Either way, they just help people feel better, not worse. There's a huge leap between that and picking one item from thousands of possibilities.

    • @norbertkimar4698
      @norbertkimar4698 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      KandaPanda I agree with you it's pressure. But I think anybody can be pressured then follows an injected, manipulative target as s/he believes it'll work. It's like need to think in a pipe where person maybe at home or not, but it all depends on how pressured, confused the mood is to do it, how the situation/ target is build up with no mistakes.
      Derren always prove, says “the person already is analyzed, watched, seeds are planted”...
      Person gets a (created) problem, reason, purpose then solve it with earlier and in present injected foreign words, thoughts, etc subliminal.

    It is *very* hard to believe that Derren was able to program the gentlemen to follow such a complex path simply because it was drawn on an envelope that he saw - even if he saw it for days. If it was a simple path, that would be one thing, but COME ON. How on earth would that man precisely follow that complex path just because he saw it? That's asking the other person to have an extraordinary sense of spatial awareness and geometric memory. Genius level, really. It's not realistic to think this trick would work because of the map. Remember that the aisles themselves are not represented on the map. *How would he know how many aisles to skip before turning???* Rubbish.
    If this is real, it's because of subliminal suggestions (he slipped the word 'vinegar' in place of 'finger' at one point) made to the gentlemen (or possibly prior knowledge of the gentlemen's need for vinegar), not the silly map. That map is a ridiculous thing to buy into. It's far too complex and our spatial awareness is simply not that good. Remember that when you follow a path, left and right are *relative to you current facing.* That's not true when you look at a map of a path. Converting the directional patterns on a map to be the same when your facing changes while following a path is very hard. Most people can't do this very well.
    AND, if it works because of anything other than the map, then Derren is lying to us that the man followed that exact path through the supermarket.

    • @handsomebear.
      @handsomebear. 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well he says "cover as much ground as possible" and "don't take the first thing" etc which will make the dude envision the whole store in his head and start laying out a plan to cover some ground.. Also the predicted path wasn't exact, as you can see when he overlaps the pictures. The important part was that he had to go back to the first big isle he walked through. and stop about a fourth of the way in.
      My guess:
      Notice that the path is pretty logical for someone who wants to cover extra ground by someone elses wish, first he walks through 3 full isles, then half of the next one as if thinking this'll take ages if I keep going through full isles. He then starts to be a little more unpredictable in his pattern, probably thinking Derren is trying something funny, before deciding to double back to get the vinegar. The drawing on that envelope would have aided in this decision making process. For all we know, Derren asked 50 people to cover a lot of ground in the store from the same starting point and recording their path then drawing that picture after what path most people were taking on average in that particular store- then using the picture to sement that path in the dudes head.
      Also, all your claims of "x is far too complex for our spatial awareness" this and "your brain can't read a map if it isn't facing the same direction as you" that is just empty claims and I assume wishful thinking. You seem very scared of these types of manipulations...

    @SlickSwiftProduction There are many ways he could have done this. I think it had 2 different influences. First, the image the man saw, was perhaps able to subconsciously replicate on the map(though this alone may not be enough). Second, Derren Brown may have set up the aisles and the store(like signs, etc) in a way that would influence the man to go visit this aisle, that aisle, etc.

    I ROFL every time I read comments on Derren videos. He is fooling you, don't you get it ... common, there are hundreds, if not thousands of things that influence you taking a route and choosing a product ... even if Derren would have told him subliminally "vinegar" it would not have been enough to distract him being influenced by all the products he saw on shelves. Common use your brain, don't be like theists who search patterns where there isn't any, just because they want to believe.

    Few things:
    1. Firstly the envelop being red; a colour on the pH scale associated with acidity. The colour red is reinforced when he arrives at the shop (notice the 'sale' signs being red [Derren makes references to the sale several times], as well as the map of Derren's prediction, and maybe when Derren subtly points to pocket with envelope in during conversation so man remembers colour more so)
    2. Derren's manipulation of wording (as pointed out elsewhere in the comments section). He also points to the pocket with the envelope in it when making these suggestions (remember, man presumes that the envelope contains a prediction of what he's going to get, so it's a subtle association)
    3. Starting point was next to bakery/ bread aisle: bread sometimes served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, so acts as an association visually, but also the smell of bakery is a strong reinforcement of this too (as the man himself mentioned about the fruit and veg aisle!)
    4. When Derren shows him the map, he makes circular motions around aisle where the vinegar can be found
    5. On the previous point, we tend to favour our right peripheral vision over the left, so more likely to choose something to the right of the starting position
    In terms of his route, most people would want to look at as many items as possible in order to assess one that will be most obscure. Most would start in a systematic manner as a means of covering as many items as poss, hence travelling the length of aisles to start with. Although he was under no time constraints (to our knowledge), he wouldn't have wanted to keep them waiting for too long, hence he soon hastens his journey by skipping aisles. He makes sure to reach the end of the store to satisfy that he has looked at as many different objects as he could, and maybe at this point he then decides what the object will be, which of course was influenced by Derren! He may have remembered that he needed the vinegar, but only because such thoughts had already been planted by Derren- similar to how we may pick up items that we hadn't thought to put on our shopping list because we suddenly remember that we need them in store (often from cues in the store!).
    Just my thoughts but feel free to add on to this list!

      Hannah Samantha I think the explanation he gave with the need in vinegar was later created by the brain as an explanation to the decision he already made, to chose vinegar. a similar thing happened to people who had their brain lobes split up (there is an entire video on it) where one lobe makes a decision and the other creates an explanation for that decision (different from the initial reason of which he wasn't aware).
      In analogy here, he was manipulated into taking the vinegar and afterwards he created a confaburation making him think it was a free choice. (the fact that he kept pressing him, asking if it was a free choice augmented the creation of an excuse)

      Hannah Samantha Darren also mentioned chips (crisps) and the flavors he mentioned were "cheese or salt and.... whatever" ....he intentionally left out the Vinegar in 'Salt and Vinegar'. From that moment, I too knew what the intended target was....my mind filled in the blank space he left and since I'm watching the show and am trying to be aware of my own thoughts, I caught myself finishing his prompt...thus, being forced to think of something. ;-)
      *EDIT* I assume you left that out because it was so obvious and so frequently mentioned in other posts, yes?

      In order for #1 to matter, the subject would have to know that red is associated with acidity and that vinegar is acidic. Most people don't know either of these things confidently. (especially the former - the latter is more commonly known, but still not an obvious thing to most.)

    very very intelligent. he set up in the guys subcontious to record a map of the store isles (the picture on the envelope that the guy looked at every day of the week) and guessed what he needed by knowing what was in that isle. very very smart NLP. something ill remember to use on someone when i need to

    @SlickSwiftProduction Actually it may be well possible. Have you heard of how much the subconscious can catch? I usually disprove of Mythbuster's technique of testing myths but they actually did a part where they remembered things that they didn't know they remembered.
    Likewise, the fact that the man was given an envelope ahead of time and even had the same image in the entrance of the store may have allowed a deep embedding of the image.

    @aznboy140 He also suggests that people buy the supermarkets own brands instead of home brands, such as, "Cheese and onion, Salt and _____, leaving it open for the man to insert 'vinegar' in there from his own thought process, and thus influencing his decision. 1:38 - 1:48

    @aznboy140 Yes--it's funny, at this point I can notice when his patter is trying to put something in subliminally, and I got that he was trying to do something there, but it still passed me by! The man is so good at this.
    Also, "Salt and...." :-)

  • @kyebean

    I couldn't walk that path if I was trying to, I really really struggle to believe that just showing him an image of it could make him then walk it so precisely through the market, if he was to draw it that would be a different matter, but for his subconscious to translate that to precise movement through the whole store seems impossible.

  • @068ant
    @068ant 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    LOL i find it funny...Derren Brown had sort of in a way been screaming at his subconscious for six days to follow that route....lol
