Damian is much more than a child who experiences new feelings, he is ignored by his father, and his older brother has more attention and reputation than him, which makes him feel more underappreciated, and he he feels he has to live up to the desmond name, and to get his father to give him even the slightest bit of interaction, and his mother has psychological issues, which is hard for him to be a normal kid. Anya makes him feel strange, since it is rare that someone has challenged and hit him simply because of his social status, the strange moment makes his world change, since he realizes that not everyone they're going to respect him, and he still doesn't know how to deal with it.
