- I've been developing indie games for ten years, and during this time I have had successes and also failures.
In this video I will give you tips and advice on game development and marketing your game, regardless if you are a new aspiring indie dev or a veteran, you will find this video useful.
In my years I've mostly worked with pixel art but one of my games is 3D, I've also used 3D elements in some of my pixel art games as a way of improving the appeal.

The PowerPoint was 1/10 but the information dropped is 11/10! :D
Are you making the game to express yourself or to please the buyers and make moneys? If you make it for yourself, then forget about everyone and all "good practices" and do what you want. If you want to make money, then indie gamedev isn't a venue for that. Otherwise research what game mechanics will best express your ideas, and then just go for it, ignoring all guidelines.
This! People create games for different reasons. Popularity and commercial are possible reasons, but not the only ones.
Agreed, specially for the working on the appeal at the beginning part :D thanks for sharing
I'm glad you liked it :D
So much useful information, and for free! Thanks man, you for sure saved me a lot of time, definitley in presentation + marketing part. Cheers! 😁
Your welcome mate, those are very important parts that a lot of devs neglect ;)
Solid advice, noted down and will incorporate into life :D
Thanks!
Thanks, I do hope it helps in the long run.
makes sense. thx for the insights
My game is close to demo but it isn't yet as visually appealing as I'd like. I've used a lot of my dev time to learn Illustrator, animation and chatacter design. I will soon commission new character art and drop it in. The whole procdss has really delayed my marketing, but the game is do much more appealing as a result!
I think filling holes in your visual skill set- through learning, hiring or partnership - is a key part of the process you described.
I now strongly recommend to gamedevs to level up their visual skills! Wish I had done this years ago...
I can name 10 things that I "wish I had done years ago".
At least we can prevent ourselves from saying it again few years from now, by doing them now :)
Imagine if Yandere Dev did this
No way. He's too busy chuggin' suspicious white liquids in a chalice and kneading his wet body pillows.
Why do I need to show my passion project game project to anyone else? I’m making it for me.
I still want it to be a fun game, though!
Strait forward and show the reality without being a debby downer. Thanks you, liked and subbed
Thank you :)
those are some solid advices! thanks for the video man
Your welcome :)
i disagre with some of your points, in my opinion u can sell any idea that u have, u dont have to develep ur game so its more mainstream like to succeed . Any original idea is actuallly more wellcome then a copy paste with reskin from games that allready exist,. you just have to bring polish and logic to your ideas and people will click with ur game regardless
The Jeff Bezos requirement of a "future press release" is along these lines!
Hey! A video thats actually useful! TH-cam is on it for once lol
Lots of good points.
Thank you :)
great video!!
Thanks :)
Thank you, I too hope you'll only have ups :)
The building a loving audience part hit really hard for me. Even though I'm just starting myself and simply doing let's plays, I've watched enough youtube for many years to understand that part.
I wish big game studios were more responsive towards their audiences. I like the way Minecraft has a community vote for new mobs to add, that's a great start. Even if the latest vote was somewhat of a mess xD
How to practice thinking outside the box?
Play Moon Logic games, anything from Sierra for example or Day of the Tentacle.
@@JohnnyOstad thank you.

Thank you for saving my 10 years man.
You are welcome :D
