      +Pedro Ignacio Bravo Collado I prefer that look too, sadly after playing both the tone of the sgj just doesn't compare to the sg special for me :(

    So awesome that they're all coming standard with 24 frets. It's 2014, every other guitar company - get with the program.
    Fun fact for the day: Angus didn't write the Back In Black riff. He heard Malcom playing it one day and asked him about it, Malcom thought it was shit and Angus went "if you don't want it, I'll take it!"

    • @ZeGuillotine
      @ZeGuillotine 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lesson learned, if you make a riff, go with it. Never know what can come out of it.

    • @jameso87
      @jameso87 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      ***** having 24 frets on an SG doesn't change the pickup location. There has always been a gap between the neckup and the end of the fretboard, unlike a Les Paul. You don't have to use them if they're there, but their appearance on the new guitars doesn't change anything else.

    • @flguitarist8298
      @flguitarist8298 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Its funny cause Malcom is the better player of the two and has taught Angus almost every thing he knows. Just listen to the song "Soul Stripper" its the only song I know where they have a solo battle.

    • @VitorDuzarte
      @VitorDuzarte 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I prefer the 22 frets, and to me, those extra 2 frets make such a huge difference, due to the neck pickup position.

    • @EventHorizonPrdctns
      @EventHorizonPrdctns 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To everyone curious, when rock/guitar was in it's infancy and adolescence, it was more about exploring the musical world that existed on the basic fretboard. Since then we who inherited that culture have the freedom and foundation to explore musically beyond that, which is why so many players are using 24 frets and 7&8 string guitars (even though I think 99% of those people are using them wrong). I personally have an ear that wants to hear guitar music that goes down to about the G below a standard low E, and about the B above the 24th fret on the high E.
      Finally, so many classical songs max out on the highest note in the piece at the 23rd or 24th fret, and some even require me to bend a full note on the 24th.
      Only having 22 or 21 kills those songs.

    I have the 2014 SGJ and It's AMAZING! the tone is that perfect 60's sound and with the volume and tone adjustments the range of sounds between clean and distorted is phenomenal. The neck feels and plays great, the lead sound on these pick-ups is top notch and the overall feel and playability of the satin finish and natural wood=superb. I played the 2013 SGJ's and didn't like the pick-ups or tone. For the Money the SGJ is just a great buy. Just my opinion and experience playing/owning one.

    Is the neck of the SG standard wider than that of the SG Special or the SGj at higher frets?
    I liked the SGJ sound better than the Special even though it is aimed at the junior level or at least how it is marketed.
    Thanks guys

    SUP ROB! Is the SGJ heavy I play in a swedish hardcore/punk band and I have made a choice to buy a "allround guitar" the thing is in my opinion you cant go wrong whit a gibson. but do you think I should buy it?

    • @Theoneandonly88able
      @Theoneandonly88able 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, sg's are light weight compared to les pauls. However weight distribution shouldn't be an issue when choosing a guitar, unless your an elderly arm chair warrior who has a bad back. The sound is what matters. Just go to your nearest guitar store and try one.

    • @LetsJamMan
      @LetsJamMan 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're talking tone-wise when you say heavy then the SGJ has it. As for versatility, I think you can get away with playing softer genres but rock is definitely where this guitar shines.

    Request please gents. Can you match the sound volume for the talky bits to the guitars? I turn up the sound to hear what you are saying and then get deafened when the guitars kick in. I turn down to a human level and then I can't hear you speak. I've noticed it on the last few videos but this one has a huge difference.

  • @AkiraSpectrum

    Really like the looks of the SGJ!
    Can someone please tell me how/why Gibson is selling these SGJ/LPJ for so cheap? Like a lot of people i'm kind of wondering about the quality differences between these and the twice as expensive Studio models from a number of years ago.

    • @orlock20
      @orlock20 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Commerciallyi think Gibson is going after a series of "like" guitars by other brands such as the PRS SE series and the PRS S2 series.
      As far as sound quality goes, that really goes for a host of factors. In terms of individuality, I would imagine that these guitars are probably a better buy for most people when choosing a guitar. Studio models shine when there is a good player in a quality studio, but in a club setting in non standard tuning, by an average player with a studio guitar, the guitar is not going to sound any better than these guitars.
      Quality wise, these guitars look really thin and that can be a bad thing since they are made out of wood. Just the daily warping alone could wreak havoc with tuning issues, let alone if one falls off a stand or gets dropped.

      @speedmetal81 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      They bothed used really good amps, maybe a pedal or two but nothing that really would change the sound. One is a some kind of slash special edition marshall head. The otherr was a blackstar combo of some kind

      Get yourself an ehx soul food and a good little tube amp and crank it. It might not be exact but it will sound killer!
