I cried the night Charlie died. I had the wonderful opportunity to meet him on several occasions when I as a bouncer at the Caravan East (Country Bar) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Pride would come in every year during the New Mexico State Fair and play a set with the house band. A real honest person and a great human being.
Charley showed everyone respect and I grew listening to him. So glad that I have those memories. He didn't get caught up in racist comments. He was a true gentleman.
This man was one of the finest singers. The first song I ever heard was Kaw Linga ., he out sang Hank Williams sr with that song. I loved his gospel music. He was a true gentle man. May you rest in peace.. You will be missed and loves by many.

First time I heard Charlie Prides voice was 40 years ago on the high seas working on bord a Norwegian ship and crew, I was smitten by his voice it was different, how I don't know how to describe it, but I loved the zing in it. I managed to get tickets to see Charlie do a show at the London Palladium early 90s it was a great show Thanks for the music.

Lucky you. I saw Charley 7 or 8 times at Twin Towns Coolangatta. Never knew Merle performed in Australia but he visited in 98 but because he couldn't smoke on a train to Adelaide he returned home. Where fid you see this great man
