  • Everything has led to this. The first part of the two-part finale, Ascension of the Cybermen. The Doctor and co. have tracked the Lone Cyberman down to a devastated planet, home to only a handful of human survivors of the Cyber War. Events transpire, and we're left with a twist that makes this coming week excruciating to wait through. #DoctorWho #Cybermen #TheMaster.

My theory about Brendan is this; He was a Cyberman who was on board the Carrier, and thus dormant, in a dream-state, surrounding himself with a fortress of his dreams to get away from the Cyber-Control. He was Irish and learnt about / loved that period so he dreamed about living then and there all the time, connecting facts from his own life (Orphan)
The Cybermen are bullet-proof (Sorry, Brigadier!), thus the thief’s gun wouldn’t work- the reality of him being a Cyberman bleeding through.
Then, after living his wholesome life as a Police Officer, when he was “Old”, his mental barriers were decayed enough for Ashaad and the other Lumic-Cybermen he was with to enter the dream like the dad / commissioner and the pain he was going through was Ashaad doing that neck-sawing thing to him. He (deep-down) knew he was a Cyberman and thus he didn’t resist. He physically couldn’t go against his new commander (Ashaad).
Also, as for the Cyberman-screaming-thing , I agree with you, Mr WhatCulture.

At first I hated them being heads but considering they were disembodied I think of it as the cybermen using heads from broken bodies. Also everything cyber like cybermats, cybermites, cybershades and cybermen all have brains or living people, so I think of it as just being a head that was upgraded and weaponised with an emotional inhibitor in the upper neck or something. Also if they return, they could be upgraded to fly on auto and latch on to people.

But that doesn't make much sense when you consider that the portal shows the citadel on Galifrey in ruins. The portal would have to lead to ancient Galifrey before the Timelords were formed inorder for this theory to work.

I think it’s very plausible and in fact likely that at least some of the fam dies. Not only for the reasons Rich mentions but for another shocking reason. If you look only at the in-series canon (no books or audio plays) and only look at “long term permanent” companions The Doctor has experienced (from their point of view) the deaths of 5 companions: Adric, Amy, Rory, Clara, and Bill. First of all that makes it clear that Donna was the last companion not to leave the Doctor’s company through death. But also when you think about The Doctors experience of these events the Amy and Rory didn’t really “die” they were time displaced, lived long happy lives, and he just got to see their gravestone. And Clara basically caused her own death, but that was undone by the Doctor, sorta, and he forgot about her anyway, sorta. Nardole by the way also “dies” in that the last time the Doctor see him alive they’re trapped on a spaceship with no apparent means of escape. So now your left with just Adric and Bill who were both killed by, wait for it, Cybermen. And it’s implied since Nardoles next appearance is from the afterlife that’s how he died too. And if you’re thinking Bill lived, the human Bill Potts does die, she’s then converted to a cyberman, killed (again) and then resurrected as oil then glass.
In other words The Fam is screwed. Not only is Martha Jones the only New Who permanent companion to leave the Doctor of their own free will, but every companion The Doctor has ever seen die and stay that way was killed by cybermen. Making the cybermen clearly the deadliest of The Doctors foes.

Brendan, his dad and his boss. The lone cyberman and the cyber twins and all the events of his life are cycling in his head so everytime he reaches the end of his life the cyber twins reset the sequence. It's likely a learning experience that he's playing though the shared neural net trying to evolve past the cybermen.

Gold was key to how the 5th Doctor defeated the Cybermen, notably in the episode "Earthshock," in which he used a gold badge worn by young Adric to kill some Cybermen. . In essence, this episode is trying to convince us these are not the Cybermen of the 1970s.

My theory is that Brendan is actually the cyberium. Because he knew what was coming, as Ritch said, he wasn't surprised that his father and superior hadn't aged at all. Maybe that duo were cybermen? Like the first cybermen that looked more human? Before they turn into more machine.
And what thing they put on Brendan, could also play another role and somehow later transform him into the cyberium. It would explain how it knows about everything and gave the lonely Cyberman so much intelligence and knowledge.
Maybe a little bit too far fetched but who knows.

For this whole Brendan thing, minus regeneration, a lot of the symptoms and weirdness seem to be Time Lord. Also, the overemphasis of the ticking clock Motif in that last room he was in. I'm taking this is going to tie into the Timeless child, not directly, but into an ongoing mystery that's going to follow Jody until pretty close to the end of her time as a doctor. We may finally be getting a glimpse into the dark ages of the first time War, before regeneration existed. Before Time Travel was perfected by the Other, aka the Doctor, back when they were just gallifreyans. As for the old guy, I'm thinking he is connected to the time Lords somehow, but either he is one of the ancients, again from before time travel was perfected, or he's from the same relative time As Ruth and Gat. The Cybermen invasion of Gallifrey would explain a couple of things from the classic era and why the timelords seems so inhuman. But, I'm not willing to make that connection just yet

I understand that the ship Yaz & Graham are on is knackered, & the war carrier seems like the only option, but taking it directly to the boundary, to the last safe place, is INSANE! They took an army of Cybermen to the worst possible location-the boundary. No one with any sense or logic would do this. Honestly, I would think if I were faced with this situation, I would find a way to self-destruct the ship, destroying the army & their leader, saving the universe from the cybermen. You do NOT bring them to a place where they could be distributed all across the cosmos.
