    Before anyone writes a think piece on what I said and continue to say about heavy amounts of racism in books relating to black peoples experience in America and any other country. I do understand the importance of depicting and calling out racism in books and opening the eyes of readers who aren’t black and need a grasp of reality.
    However as I’ve said many times
    Before I would like to see more books published and written by black authors where black people are at PEACE, and simply existing. Especially if it’s a fictional world with a plot that does not need to be tied to slavery or racism or traumatizing experiences. I will gladly die on this hill 💗🙂‍↔️

      I agree! Those books are important but so are the books about black joy, black love, black peace… our stories can’t only be struggle, struggle, struggle… that’s not who we are and it’s not our only experiences.

      I’ll climb that hill with you bc what we need to understand is BALANCE. Yes ppl need to learn but we deserve to see ourselves thriving as well experiencing joy one doesn’t negate the other

    “Can we get more black stories without the heavy traumatizing punches” YES PLEASE. I’m not black, but I would love to see more black stories that value black people as more than just tortured, I wanna see black artists, black athletes, black lovers, black villains and hero’s, I want to see black people be represented as people. Their skin color is not their only defining factor, and while stories showcasing oppression and calling it out are important I think it’s equally as important to appreciate black people as people as they well.

    About your thoughts on racism depicted in books: THANK YOU. I so badly want more attention given to books with Black characters that don't have racism, even if it's just a scene where they experience a micro-aggression. I get it's an important part of real people's experiences, but why would you willingly put it into stories meant for escapism?
    It may not be "realistic", but I like writing and reading about idealistic settings I would want to live in. Settings where, regardless of identity, people can live their lives without worrying what society thinks of them because of the way they were born. There are Black stories that don't even mention racism, but they usually don't get as much mainstream attention as those that do.

      I agree; this is why I end up not reading a lot of books about black characters by black authors. There are many black people that have never directly experienced racism or micro-aggressions. Plus, if they have they don't necessarily let it dictate their decisions, lives, or movements.

    • @caprisbookisland
      @caprisbookisland  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Exactly like it’s a fictional world… obviously the black experience shouldn’t be erased but damn can we just have SOME simple peaceful books as well lol

      I feel like there are books out there with black characters by black authors that aren’t traumatizing or include racism… but as they said they don’t get as much hype. Maybe i should do a video recommending some

    😂😂😂😅 not Capri saying for 9th house they didn’t have a character limit 🤦🏿‍♀️ I don’t have time to write a 2 line review let alone paragraphs how are they managing the time to write persuasive essays as reviews 😂. Sometimes I think about writing and it stays a thought I need to be better at that 🎳

    I assumed the school shooter dude was part of the horror of the book. And that character was horrifying. But I can totally see your point about the book not needing racism. Jake Livingston could have been a black boy that sees ghosts of something else.
    And YES! Authors do way too much when their books are labeled adult.

    • @caprisbookisland
      @caprisbookisland  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I definitely agree that school shootings are literally horrifying so I can see that but I felt like the mc was sympathizing with him a bit too much I didn’t like that 😩. An yessss I swear they hear “adult” an lose their minds 😭

    I hate to say it, but I don't like Talia Hibberts books. I find her love stories to be dry, cringe, and boring. The development of the romance always leaves me wanting something more; the chemistry between the characters just never hits for me. I think people are afraid to rate books lower if they deal with specific issues or if they're from black authors or about black people.

    • @caprisbookisland
      @caprisbookisland  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I also haven’t loved her books and I think I’ve read at least 5 or 6. My favorite was Dani’s. I disagree I feel like in most spaces people rate books harsher when it comes to that but I hear you

    Speaking of…my bookish friend and I host a plus size readathon in the month of august where we read exclusively plus size books for the whole month. We’d love it if you could join!!! (Totally understand if you can’t 😌💙)

    🎳 I am so shocked that people say You Made a Fool of Death With Your Beauty is a romance. I have it 3.5 because I was in my soap opera era and I thought it was well-written, but I absolutely do not see it as a romance!! Was I supposed to be rooting for them?? 😬
