I wish this video had been longer!!!! The people seem so much more relaxed and peaceful in this setting. It would be nice to ask them what they were thinking when they are at the art workshop. Hopefully the serenity gained this way will help them in their struggles to gain housing and employment. The lady dressed in yellow, who is staff, has a calming effect of her own!

I love this. As an artist, and as one who follows (and videos) the music scene, as well as some of the art-scene, in Austin..., it has given me a great idea. I am talking it over with some district folk I happen to know, downtown, and I am going to see if it is possible to start something similar. It will not be visual art. Or, it will not be that, mainly.. I think we can do something wonderful. Cheers!
@@Inf7cted Yes, this is exactly what I mean. Our entertainment district, downtown, is (sadly) full of people with no homes. Austin is zoning them out of houses. So, there has to be something positive to do for them. (I just don't want it to be your typical church choir. I want it to be new music// I do a lot of music video, in town, and am getting to know a lot of musicians, and want to see if we can get something going.)

Wow, this is wonderful. And interesting to see. Although. You see them in a different light. From tbeir tent they are being appreciated by someone that has opened the doors for them of free opportunity. A little time out if their day to relax and enjoy themselves with a little Bit of art. Thanx for this. God Bless.
Awesome space for people to chill. Carnegie Centre in Vancouver was like that (in the heart of the downtown jungle), there was a nice library and place for art, talent night and place for children to be themselves too.
I would love if one of them is able to use the art to find housing. If they had extra canvases and extra paint, they could paint landscapes and cityscapes, and sell the paintings as a job they created themselves, and hopefully people would actually buy those paintings enough for the people in this class to be able to find housing. Also, the social worker could paint one painting in a way that helps bring awareness to homelessness. That's just a thought I had.
Hello, and what a Fantastic video! I like this model to help folks to have a place to create. Will you let me know how I can reach the place in Charlotte to get information, so that I can start this In my city? I'm an artist and would love to give back to our community.

The art work helps them emotionally. They can actually see themselves complete something from start to finish. It makes them feel good about themselves, and boost their self confidence. I believe it will give them the boost they need to be proactive in obtaining a better life, and securing housing.
@@dawnmoore2823 Nah sis I was formerly homeless and I don't wanna paint nor draw any pictures. This idea is far from original. This a real life situation that needs real adult solutions. Not childish preschool-ish methods. People who become homeless are viewed as incompetents. There are too many programs like this and it's ridiculous.
@lakeshiamcgee3385... That's how it would have been for me. If I had time to paint, I had time to look for a job or utilize a program to help me achieve my goal of having a place to live. This would have done nothing for me -- but if it helps them to feel better Fine. I know that for me it would have been useless.
How is this really helping homelessness? Think about it. Her entire description on their “mission”, is very vague..How will this help people find homes? If the art gives you hope, good for you I guess? But getting them off the streets just for a couple hours, just so they can paint a picture?..Not really helping homelessness as a whole in my opinion..
Many people on the streets suffer from severe trauma. The traditional social work model is to have the client sit in front of a desk. How much healing does that provide to you think? Which model helps the social worker understand their client to provide the right support? I could go on and on.
@@InvisiblePeople I agree. Plus it exercises their imagination, de stresses them, eases their anxiety....it also makes them feel accepted, not judged, and being a part of something. They deserve to be seen and heard too. These are not small things. Alex Psychedelic, i suggest you take up some art classes and experience art yourself. You never know, you might even learn how to use your imagination. 🤷🏻♀️
Exactly! People do things to make themselves look good. This is total ridiculousness. People don't want to give from the heart because it takes sacrifice, time, and effort. I was formerly homeless and this is just an insult to my intellect and intelligence. The reason why I developed my businesses. I took sacrifice, blood, sweat, and tears. I really want to help people.
This is NOT helpful to homelessness!! I am so over this kind of performative, cookie cutter solutions. Once again this is a superficial. Sadly, this person is using this method, which is not original to be quite frank, to say, "Look, I am helping the homeless." Not trying to be disrespectful but I have to speak up. As someone who was formerly homeless this is a complete slap across the face and insulting. Being homeless is not equivalent to incompetency. Drawing pictures is not a solution to this growing problem. If that were the case, let's paint away poverty, racism, other socioeconomic issues.
