A criteria for the hierarchy on the basis of skillset, talents, abilities, powers etc.
Example a very skilled software engineer is subordinate to a manager, who maybe doesn't have any technological knowing, but has people management skills, ability to motivate the subordinates, to guide as a mentor, even if can't guide technologically.
So here, mutual respect should be established based on each others' skills, the technically knowledgeable engineer should not feel unjust of being a subordinate to a non-technical manager, and same time the manager should not be rude or bossy on the subordinate, only with the ego that manager is senior designation. They should regard each other approaching with positive mindset.
