Back in the good old days when Amtrak ran 2 trains in 1. As I recall, the SB was split in Auburndale with 1/2 going all the way to St Petersburg. The other half went to Miami. On the return trip to NY the trains would leave St Petersburg and Miami, and be reconnected in Jacksonville for the trip north. It was always interesting to watch in Jacksonville, especially if one half of the train was running late.
Once upon a time we had TWO 18-car trains from NYP to Florida. Claytor’s Amtrak was the best.

I used to love hearing those F40’s left in Run 8 during the southbound station stop in Hamlet , usually between midnight and 4:00.

That makes so much more sense than relying on a transfer. If one train is late and someone misses their connection, they can be SOL.
