Anthony West and Josephine Vander Gucht comprise the alt pop duo Oh Wonder. Initially, while writing and producing in South East London, the pair gained fans with down-tempo, keyboard-driven melodies, releasing one song a month for a year on SoundCloud. In interviews, the two confessed that they considered themselves songwriters first. By setting a monthly deadline, they forced their emotionally insightful songs into the light of day. Oh Wonder’s “This Christmas" boasts the same compassionate spirit that has endeared them to dedicated audience. So while the ennui of the holidays may have hit a few of us, this wonderful live performance will remind you of the season's most important feels.

Simply beautiful
This version reminds me of the story of the little match girl. It’s about a poor girl who has to sell matches on the streets so she can get money and get back to her home but her father refuses to let her in until she sells all the matches she have. Being unable to sell any matches under the snowy weather, she lit a match to keep herself warm and within the warm light that the match has, she saw foods, gifts, and her grandmother. She’s happy to see her grandmother alive and well, celebrating the Christmas Eve with the little match girl but suddenly, everything turned black and all the foods and gifts were gone as well. She lit up another match and everything came back once more. Wanting to stay a little while with her grandmother, she used all the matches she had in her basket and they flew to the night sky. The next morning, citizens were shocked to see a little girl with a basket full of used matched all covered in snow. The little match girl died of hypothermia and followed her grandmother in the afterlife.
I know that story! In german it's called "Das Mädchen mit den Schwefelhölzern"

@@timidddle (¬ ͜ʖ¬) i have a local radio that plays these songs nonstop right now. and all they pick to play are the really polished Pop ones that say the word christmas every 5-10 seconds. the only words that keep up with that level of wordsaturation are curse words in rap.
Back 1 year after release, and still crying every time I listen to it.
