It's turned into a "for profit" entity instead of being there to represent and serve the people. They create paid positions to grow the government even bigger just like an expanding corporation who's goal it is to control and regulate every aspect of your life for their maximum profit and security of their system.. Orwell's analogy of company x vs company y has become a reality.

I just paid personal and real property taxes yesterday, $5500 worth. I figure that in the 23 years we've lived here we've paid over $80,000 in taxes on our place. We don't owe any money but we also don't own our land. The county holds the lien.
It's time to get rid of all income and property taxes and go to a sales and excise tax system.

Howdy Brock! I hear ya brother. I feel we got where we are because of a lack of accountability in DC. It is truly shocking when you look at how Congress spends money. That is why I'm hoping DOGE is successful in ferreting out some of this waste. We shouldn't be sending 1 billion dollars to Africa for infrastructure projects when our own citizens are struggling to recover from disasters in this country... I think this last election shows that people are fed up with the 'status quo'. We don't have the luxury anymore of thinking this stuff isn't the monstrous problem it truly is... Thanks for sharing 🤠

Good afternoon Brock. I haven't commented much lately but I had to tell you that I agree 100% with everything that you said. My wife and I have paid into social security our whole lives. So that we would have our S.S. benefits when we retired. We've been basically debt free for many years now but between property taxes, school taxes, Medicare that that I pay $560. a month between the Medicare and supplemental insurance and it goes up every year. And that's just me not counting my wife. It's only a matter of time before we won't be able to afford it. We can only hope that things will get better in the next 4 years. While the illegals get free medical, free cell phones, live in 5 star hotels, eating gourmet food that's not good enough for them while we have 60,000 homeless Veterans living on the street. One last thing and I'm done. Politics is not the problem, politicians are the problem. All of these antiquated dinosaurs need to be voted out of office. Sorry this is so long but I'm old so.... 😁 You did good. God bless and have a wonderful day. 👍👍🙂

Well said. I might add that high property taxes affect decisions to build or improve properties. Many landowners in this area opt to build 'temporary' structures and sheds that are not taxable here. Fabric roofs and no permanent utilities are some qualifiers. Probably offsets the buildings cost in tax savings over the long run.

While I fundamentally agree with you, the problem is a piece of land could be passed on through generations without being taxed. A piece of land in the middle of nowhere might not be an issue, but land located in a city is going to impact emergency services, right of way, utilities, etc, simply because it exists. How do those services get paid for? You might say through income tax, or sales tax, or fuel taxes. Well, the land is in New York, but I live in Georgia. Basically, my land ownership is costing New York money, and because I never go to New York, there's no way to pay for the services it burdens them with. Hence, property tax.

    • @seth1704
      @seth1704 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

What I hate about property tax is the fact that they can change your bases on what they deem the land is worth. If they had a fair system that you pay taxes on the purchase price of what you paid for the land and then when you die and it's passed on to the next generation or sold then a new basis is established. To just constantly be raising your tax basis because they reassess your value yearly is not fair at all, because people with a fixed income in retirement cannot step up their income based on inflation, and who is to say that what they are saying the land is worth is really what it is worth.

I disagree with you that taxation is needed to pay for infrastructure. Don't tell me for a minute that if there were no roads for large companies to plunder our natural resources for sale to China, they would not build them themselves.
Sure you may have to pay a toll to use them, but IMO that's much better than paying for a road across the country you will never use. States /Provinces would be much better off with a flat point of sale tax at say 10% that replaces income tax and stays in the state. It doesn't need to be distributed centrally... that system was put in when we needed horses and carts to send a message.
Just imagine how many people would have the ability to volunteer as a nurse or public servant if they did not have to spend half of their life time chasing money to pay for over taxation. The main difference being you would have people doing the job that WANT to do it - not because they are forced to because of their financial burdens and hating every moment of it.

Let me start by saying I'm a conservative republican and a long time subscriber of your wonderful channel. I don't want to pay taxes anymore than you do, and the government shouldn't waste any of it. Owning property outright shouldn't really have any bearing on paying taxes. Owing money on something shouldn't be the deciding factor on whether or not we pay taxes. We should all pay for safety, roads, schools, etc.and not have it based on what we own or owe on it. Maybe a flat tax is the answer...I don't know, but we need to find a way to cut government spending and pay less taxes! I hope this new administration finds a way to make that happen.

cowboy Steve has the right idea, here in Connecticut, the personal property taxes on vehicles is not only bad news it is out right criminal.. Why should a 21 ram bought in late 20 still be worth a couple of grand each year in personal property tax? Somewhere something has to change. Company greed is one thing, however, when the gvt takes everything away from a large corp and not allow them to make monies, this is why they send their monies and invest over seas leaving the rest of us holding the bag.. We have to allow the companies to make something, and hopefully from this, in short time they would be able to pay more per hour or however one is paid. And with this DOGE dept starting up, they can cut a lot out of waist full spending.

Great video. We have numerous problems as well as many great things in our country. There shouldn’t be such a divisive line between corporate greed, excessive taxation that’s spent frivolously or not used efficiently, having a strong well funded military, great education, great medical care and preventive care, elderly care, veteran care, childcare, homelessness, starvation etc. There should be no reason that political parties can’t work together to make improvements on ALL of it. Each state and national politician has their own staff and team, they aren’t working alone. They should be able to walk and chew gum at the same time.
The solution resides with us everyday Americans demanding that our elected officials work harder on ALL of it or vote for someone else who will.

Some counties are dumb/corrupt. Do your research when buying a property. Your local elections are most important.

Also in Texas we have a "merp" medicaide estate recovery plan" ( i may not be exactly right about what the letter p actually stands for). To avoid these some people who have put their homes in someone else's name. IE a child who in theory is going to outlive the parent but then they have some kind of tragic accident and end up having have some kind of extended and even permanent medical care and then the parents end up loosing their home because their kids had an accident. Although I think playing the odds is better than just allowing the government to steal it.

Have a good lawyer create a trust for you and the family, that's what the rich guys do. Here's a fun fact, it wasn't until 1979 in Texas made land owners pay property tax. Who is Jon Galt? Speaking for where Im located; Midwest. 2BR 1BA apartment is 800/mo. with water coverage, everything else is renter coverage. A single family 3BR, 2BA is 3400 annually in taxes. It is definitely cheaper to just pay taxes but you would have to deal with many factors such as owning the property, doing lawn/snow care, and general house maintance such as new roofs, water heater, furnace, siding, etc. So in terms of 9600 for rent a year without the hassle of doing any repairs or paying taxes, or would you prefer to do all that instead for 3400 in taxes + house repairs, the choice is on the person.
Another option that would help is to have passive income to offset your taxes. Owning real estate rentals that can stand on its own feet while providing monthly cashflow. Or investing in long term stocks and bonds that can beat the yearly returns.
