My cat is always kneading my duvee and blankets with a loud purr. I may not pet him during this. It's like he's telling me it's his turn to be nice. It's very cute.
I had a #notmycat moment where I found this stray cat on my daughter's bed kneading the blankets. Now we have a cat because she adopted us and she kneads everything constantly.
I adopted my first cat and suddenly he started doing this and I was SO confused and afraid, I thought he was preparing to attack me. Hahaha I'm so relieve now that I know it's a commom behavior.
it's instinctive. it's how kittens get milk out of mom. adult cats obviously aren't expecting to get milk out of a blanket or their person, but they do it anyway because they feel the way a kitten does when it's having dinner with mom. the cat feels warm and safe. they're happy and comfortable. when your cat started doing this, it's because you had created an environment where he felt like that. so it was the opposite of what you feared - it was a major compliment. you did good.
Does cat die after doing this? As I have lost one cat just after he started kneading. And now 2nd one is doing the same and his health is not good too.
i'm sorry for your loss. i know the feeling. i lost my best friend of fifteen years very suddenly, and although it's been five years and the pain has faded, i still miss her dearly. she was my 12th birthday present. kneading is an instinctive behavior. it's how kittens get milk out of mom. when an adult cat does it, they're obviously not expecting to get milk out of a blanket or its person. they do it because they feel the way a kitten does when it's having dinner with mom. if your cats began doing that late in life, my _guess_ is that they felt tired, but protected. weak like a kitten, but warm and safe. it's a compliment to you. you created an environment where your cats feel like kittens. kneading in and of itself is nothing to fret over.
previous commenter is correct - it's how kittens get milk out of mom. it's an instinctive behavior. obviously adult cats aren't expecting to get milk out of a blanket or their person, but they sometimes do it anyway because they feel the way a kitten does when having dinner with mom. safe, warm, nearly ready for bedtime. you know how a dog sometimes turns in circles before lying down? it's sort of like that. like, "oh man, i need to get ready for bed."
Imagine the bread these cats could make with how much they knead

My cat kneads dressing gowns and cashmere cardigans when they are folded
I always let my cat knead the dough when I make pizza
Get them one of those cuddly blankets and they do it often. My old cat used to love when you heat it up in the drier.
My tuxedo cat has claimed by black, somewhat fuzzy bathrobe, and humps it every day while screeching.

Mine just does it when he's happy and he's okay. Sorry you lost your cat :(

Why do cats knead?
They do it when they're babies to help with milk production...they also do it to release stress or if they need to calm down

in reality they are just checking where to stab their claws and viciously murder you ❤️
Why would they purr then if they have this devious plan?
Wow That Is So Funny And Has Never Been Said Before
This is just a small pet peeve for me, but does anyone else find it annoying when someone refers to a cat's kneading as "making biscuits"?.
I just say they’re making muffins, but yeah, the biscuit thing kinda gets old ngl 🤷♀️
it gets old. my peeve is when people say "doggo" and "birb." like, knock it off already.
@@zubetp I get that. Like yeah it's cute but it gets annoying after a while.
