    OMG, Woodreigos on ZeroTo60 again. Must confess I had a bit of a fanboi moment there, big Skid Factory fan!

    Watching Zero to 60 with woody from The skid factory wearing a Mighty car mods top 🤣

      I really wish zeroto60 would collaborate with Mightycarmods! I’ve begged MCM to do the 335i but they never got back to me. They don’t know what they’re missing

    Thats some serious damage 😣
    Can't wait to see a fully built N54, take your time mate, do it properly once - hopefully it'll last significantly longer 👍

    How much power were you running when engine blew? Wondering what the power threshold is before having to build an N54.
    Great channel man keep up the good work

      @ZeroTo60Tube  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it was 700whp though a loose convertor on a power glide. So would have been pushing around 800-850hp at the crank

    Check the crank and make sure it's not bent. I've rebuilt quite a few of these that seized and have run into 5 bent cranks .

    It looks like the block, rods and pistons are all going to the dump. The crank would need to be checked to see if it is bent or cracked after rotating at 7,000+ rpm out of balance. The head looks like it is reusable and as you stated maybe suitable for porting. It looks like No 6 rod was ready to break as well. I guess with the boost at 33psi, it is a wonder it lasted the time it did. Another great video Andrew.

      Thanks Ken!!! And thanks for becoming a member, its really appreciated. Its a shame it died, but like you said the motor definitely did well to last as long as it did. And to be fair apart from the bent rods it was in good nick in side.

    usually its cylinders 1 and 6 that let go on n54. i was doing a 24 psi pull, heavy fog , tune was perfect, making a crap ton more power than usual and piston 1 hit the ejector seat button. i drove it for 15 miles seemingly running okay with no piston in cylinder 1, could hear the rod tapping the cylinder wall though.. get home, go to sleep, wake up the next morning and engine is seized. i put a scope down the bore and when i dropped it in cylinder 1 spark plug hole, i could see the crankshaft and oil pan LMAO.
    after building 5 of these things. do not re use that block until you have it re squared, if that crank shaft was stuck, its bent and now your block/cradle is tweaked.
    stock n54 cams suck, get some cat race cams, supertech springs and your stock turbos will flow hard up in the high range where they lack. cheaper than upgrading the turbos and you can make about 575whp all the way to redline on stock spooly boys.
    i just built a 11:1 n53 head swapped n54 with darton block insert, wiseco boostline rods, custom pistons for alcohol , brian crower 288/288 cams, and 2 stages of nitrous.
    when you guys are ready to really go fast. holler at me !

      Wow, you made it home hahah. This actually did the same thing, it was still running when we pulled over. We had to actually shut it down. Then it siezed.

  • @apriliaracing7
    @apriliaracing7 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's actually not as bad as it could have been. Its definitely rod failure that made the piston go ka-boom. I've seen it a few times on high power N54's. Thankfully you don't have the block with the coolant grooves between the cylinders because that's also a failure point and could have cracked from the rod and piston failure. I love your channel and looking forward to seeing the rebuild. Cheers.

    Are you able to measure ring gap in a couple of bores. Also double check if there are any ring scuff marks on the bore. Very important for the next build. Running e85 I suspect you can get away with smaller ring gaps compared to 98.

    Brother I felt hurt how those cam bearing trays were removed... ouch just ensure the correct tool when installing them back to prevent prevent from warping the tray.

  • @danielmcdowell7054

    Lack of ring gap was the failure by the sound of it. Rings have heated up, gap closed and ring bound up piston in cylinder then all shit broke loose.

    Check out in between the ring gaps they'll be shiny like bare metal if they touched but it does look like there was some rod failure going on 😊 keen to see how this thing ends up all said and done 😊🤘

    The injectors shouldn't come out that easily, which is why you need a slide hammer tool. How was the cam bearing ledge? Was it worn? Did it have a Teflon seal?

    I’m guessing there is a small amount of bend in all of connecting rods that appeared straight. Definitely would not reuse them.

    When is DI injection -full delete- make sense 800hp E85?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally i think DI on a N54 is done at around 500hp. Anything over that the PI setups are where its at.

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe so, i have heard of people using a diesel injector cleaner setup to clean them. However pulsing the injectors during the cleaning process may be more difficult.

    See, this is why I don't get why people invest so much into closed decks on the N54. Even when you have huge horsepower, and you blow an engine, when has it ever been a cylinder wall?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess their logic is once the rods and pistons are beefed up, cylinder walls will be next...... .we will find out for sure tho :P

      @@ZeroTo60Tube Well who knows man we all speculate but that piston caused shit in the first place....if this engine blew appart on high revs its not unlikely for things to stop sudden from 6000 upwards RPM and not bend.Love the content though....N54 the world!!Im only baby steps on my 335i running stage 2 RFP tune
