As well for longevity and maintenance of the craft, RNLI operate mostly in saltwater which can lead to shorter lifespan of the vessel due to corrosion, having it out of the water allows for easier maintenance, but also less frequent maintenance, keeping a vital asset in an emergency in top condition As above though, it's mostly tides
In harbour when there are relatively small boats moored your limited with the speed you can do because of waves you create, what you don't want to do is create another emergency by sinking a boat with people on it in the harbour
Quicker than dragging it by hand...!😮 dont forgot the tide isn't always in...tracking is a great idea across the sand

If the tide is out then they wouldn’t be able to launch the boat. It’s not fast but enables them to launch at any tide condition.
