Thank you for making this video. I'm one of the presenters at the Chess in Education conference this October and my topic is on the Plus Minus Equals method and how this method of improvement in chess links to building client trust and driving sales in a Fortune 500 consulting organization. Will certainly be referencing a lot of the material that was used here. Thank you very much again for creating a clear and succinct video on this topic. Vishnu Warrier
I knew that method as the "See one, do one, teach one". The idea of community is an added value when you place that share the problems, solutions, etc in practice. Thanks for the video! Really interesting way to motivate others and to help them be aware of why doing it alone, is far harder and less efficient. :)
Interesting theory, Jesse! That's why my teaching philosophy is: "The more I know / grow, the more I will be able to teach / make other people grow. The plus helps me improve, the equals help me ( and I help them) with their problems, doubts, and knowledge, and the minus helps me "preach what I teach". Keep growing that theory, Jesse! :)
I just looked it up because you looked familiar, but we were at Shimer together. We used to play blitz and you would have a 1min to my 5min. I still remember the advice "think while they're moving". It's so cool you hit that GM goal you had back then. I honestly just started playing/studying again and just randomly ran across this as I was looking for ideas on training.
Dang, you say things that are always worth listening to. You are truly a student of life and chess. When I say student I mean you actually "study." It is similar to focusing a microscope.
As a musician, I have used the plus equal minus system for a couple decades. It works! As a CHESS adult improver started playing classical over the board tournaments in 2020, I have plenty of equal cohorts that I see at the tournaments all the time and plenty of minus students at the Chess Club. I started in my small town. But that’s far I have been, unable to find a plus in my chest life. Does the Chesha Tojo training program provide access to a person who could be my plus? Or does it just increase my number of cohorts?
Hey Jesse. I'm fairly confident you would like Prof Andrew Huberman's podcast. He gives science-based recommendations on topics like enhancing sleep, focus, exercise performance etc. By the way, he cautions against wearing blue light blockers in the daytime, since doing so may disturb your circadian rhythm and reduce alertness. All the best.
Those podcast episodes are gold. I watched the one on master your sleep, improve your vision and how to learn skills faster. I stopped wearing blue light blocking glasses during the day because of his podcast. Highly recommended.
Dont ever take a class from a teacher who is not doing what they are teaching- GM Jesse Kraai great quote I perhaps take it controversially to far as I dont watch any analysis of games where the annotator is weaker than the players who's games he's analyzing (I have not seen any world champion games outside of Morphy/Philidor because of this one rule for learning lol
I think it is a sentence that needs explanation in terms of it's relation to improvement and why. I can argue for different interpretations and would like Jesse to clarify his thoughts. The teacher could be a retired professional who may know more about a subject than any other, or someone who doesn't really have any incentive to do what they do other than to be gentle, nice and caring. I am curious to understand where the absolute is coming from, and how you know someone is not "qualified", which is why I am asking.
Damn, this is so deep!
*giggles*

This a fantastic video Jesse. I hope Chess Dojo and your periodic monologues will squarely be categorized in the success column.
this is essence, i think every chess player needs this , with a defined schedule of study (like materials and sessions)
"I'd like to share a revelation..." !!
OMG... what a great opening, like right out of "The Matrix!!
Ok, now ready to listen to video.

Some great concepts. Thanks for sharing!
You only truly know a concept when you are able to impart that concept to another.

Thank you. It shows the flow, like a generation chain.

Excellent video
Excellent indeed

Wonderful. If I may ask: What are some other tips your friend gave you about curing insomnia?
To stop answering TH-cam questions
Thankyou
very insightful, thanks :)
So, any advice/video on how to find a coach? E.g. where to look, who to look for, etc.
Very interesting. GM Kraai is the real deal!

Awesome, thanks!
I watched and liked it... take that Kostya!
Ok, gonna have to look out for a minus
does this mean you will go back to analyzing viewer games ?
We have a Game Analysis tier on our Patreon page :)
Young exhausted dad here. Can you tell my kids that they should always wake me up at the same time every day? Thx 😘
haha. It's your fault! Don't go to them in the middle of the night.
@@ChessDojo Oh don't worry I don't! But sometime their night ends at 6am, sometimes at 7! Guess which one I prefer.
Your sleep sensei says get up at 6 every day!
What did you mean with 'don't ever take a class from someone who is not doing whatever they are teaching.'?
kind of like having 'skin in the game'
I could be wrong but I believe he is saying that one should not take lessons from someone who does not practice what they say you should practice.
