Yes, a standard pen as a size comparison would be useful
Nice that you include the macro shots, appreciate that. Agree with those who’d like a Safari comparison too. Beautiful pen and it looks tuned up to my ideal.
I prefer to have one standard pen like a Safari that you always compare to. Comparing a Jinhao 9019 to a Montblanc 149 only does nothing to show New perspective buyers what they might be getting as opposed to a Pilot Metro, TWSBI Eco, or Lamy Safari Standard that most people have to compare to.
yup. everyone knows the size of say a kakuno, sailor profit, or safari
Thanks, DB, for showing us the "new" V-200!
For any of my pens with metal against plastic threads that show wear I add a wrap of PTFE tape and it eliminates the erosion.
A benchmark pen as part of the comparison choices is appreciated.
I prefer the matte black. It looks like a real leaning blue on camera, which I like very much. I have my TWSBI's for the clear barrels. Sounds like a great pen, and it is a handsome pen.
Thank you!
Lisa ❤
My god, this paper is glass, what a beauty!
I definitely prefer the look of the black frosted one.
I think an eco and a safari would be a great pair for a standard because they’re the most popular mid-range starter pens. For people getting into pens in the last few years, there’s a solid chance they’ll have one of those.
Of course, I say that partially because I have an eco and then a bunch of vintage pens iv found randomly which you don’t seem to have yourself. I do still like to see the other pens though just for funsies.
I add a dab of silicone grease to the threads to help the knob screw in and out smoothly.
For me it is important to have 1-3 standard pens for size comparison beside similar pens. I like when pens are compared to very common pens like safari, TWSBI, … because probably everybody has access to one.
Agreed, a Pilot Metropolitan, Lamy Safari, Twsbi Eco or Kaweco Sport for size comparison would help 👌🏽
THAT'S A GOOD BADASS LOOKING PEN !
I KNOW I'VE ASKED U BEFORE AND U REPLIED ME, BUT CAN U MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT COATING A CHROME NIB INTO BLACK, PLEASE?
IMAGINE PUTING AN ULTRAFLEX NIB IN THIS PEN, IT WOULD BE A DELICIOUS COMBO !
Nice! But since I have the original V200 and the Rainbow edition, I think I will abstain from another purchase but good to know about.
Looks cool but I still feel the Asvine V126 is better value overall.
The EF nib on my Asvine v126 is wonderful.
I love the look & feel of the V126 in the matte black, so this new one is right up my street! I also agree that a standard pen for comparisons would be a good idea. I think the Safari is a sensible choice since the majority of pen users will be familiar with them.
Would love this sort of style on the P50 model. I really like that model.
I'll put this one on my wishlist :) My latest acquisition was the Rainbow V200 with EF and it writes really well, I own a few V200 some with Asvine nibs which are all very good (EF, F, M), some with Bock (but these are meant to be replaced with housing to exchange nibs like Zebra, Falcon, etc). Overall this is one of these pens that punches well over its price. (btw never lost an o-ring but that may be a matter of time)
I was using a pen case with elestic hoops and each time I would put the pens in or out of the case, BOING it would pop one off 😆
@@Doodlebud I put some in a case with elastic hoops as well, I'll see if my experience is the same as yours.
Thank you for another great video. I think it would be great to have a comparison pen, say a Lamy Safari or Pilot Metropolitan, because they are very common and can provide scale/visual context.
I've seen many people joking that they pull out the pilot metropolitan as the standard comparison measurement. And the Lamy safari. People know the size of those.
I think having a standard pen in all size comparisons help as they are likely to be found in a large number of FP collections!
I’ve been meaning to try the Asvine nibs. They are cheaper than the Bock upgrade so it’s a no brainer to check it out! Thanks DB
Yes, a standard pen like a Safari or a Metropolitan is great for comparison. They have become the "ruler" of the fountain pen world. Is it bigger, smaller, girthier than one of them? You can just see how big the pen is in your mind.
This is completely personal preference. I really don't like this in black. I think that it's the frosted acrylic. It looks cheap to me. But that's just me. I could probably get over it quickly if someone handed me one. I love those nibs.
Yep! Standardize the comparisons, please. And include a Sharpie and a Pilot G2 Gel pen in the mix. I think that makes more sense, right?
❤ the clear acrylic
Excellent photography, as usual. I've never been a fan of demonstrator or translucent pens ("grumpy old man" syndrome ?) but it certainly writes very well. As for comparisons, my vote goes for the Lamy Safari. Cheers, and keep up the good work.
This looks like an improvement to the original from my perspective as I find the metal section a bit slippery. I agree with you about the Asvine nibs they are fantastic
I like the Asvine nibs also
I hear ya, they're doing a great job with their nibs overall. There will always be some bum ones that get out the door, but it's seems it happens left often for theirs
I like the idea of having a control set of pens for size reference - maybe a kaweco sport, lamy safari and a larger model.
Will I buy the matte black version? Probably not. My collection is still small enough that I don't want to purchase the same pen with a different finish, and I still prefer the original look. That being said, I think it's great that they are making different versions of it.
For the longest time I didn't buy duplicates of the same pen. Just too many out there to discover
It does look a bit blue-green on camera, but otherwise rather nice. I also see a rainbow finish titanium with clear acrylic on Amazon, as well.
thanks for the show
I bought my V200 with the Asvine nib. Exceptional writer. I find Bock nibs are hit or miss.
I wonder if an application of beeswax on those threads of the backcap would help it from preventing some abrasive wear. I do that routinely with all the resin parts of my fountain pens after every deep clean.
damn, I like everything about that matte black v200 except for the frosted black pen body. I want clear acrylic to see my ink sloshing around.
Think there are better made pens at that price point, but it’s a looker. Definitely keep a constant when doing the size comparisons. Cheers.
Definitely lots of great vac pen models out there 👍
BTW they sell the o-ring packages on Amazon now.
I prefer the original version. I love titanium and the parts in titanium is perfect.
No, I haven't had a problem with the plastic on the piston knob being cut off from the metal threads.
Perhaps you may want it find a standard pen to be used for comparison. If you use other pens in addition to the standard pen, I think they should be of similar size to the pen being reviewed.
Nice overview.
Matte black, very nice. I'm distracted by clear pens while writing... Doooodlebud 🤭✒️
Hey good to hear from you!
Asvine also have a rainbow version of the v200 (the metal bits are rainbow pvd coated)
I just wish that Asvine would sell the rainbow nib only because i have bought the M and it is a bit towards B for my liking
Yes yes yes! Please! Introduce one or more "standard sized" pens! :) :) I'm so tired of reviewers showing of some 1000$ pen and only doing comparisons with other, sometimes even more expensive pens. Sure it's nice a see possible competition next to each other. But it's a bit useless as a "Size comparison" if you don't know the reference. Some (not naming names) seem more like they are "showing off" rather than actually help people grasp the size. Sometimes even doing comparisons of pens no longer available.
Think Lamy Safari is the obvious choice. But you could do two size comparisons, one with similar pens and another with reference pens. Like the safari, platinum preppy, pilot Metro or kakuno, maybe a common jinhao like the 82 or 159x. And maybe take in to consideration, the nib size, so a common jowo #6 in the mix too.
The new Asvine seems to be V126 in Titanium :)
A Ninja V200...! OMG!!! I don't have the v200 yet and what is stopping me from getting one are the rubber O-rings. It is a good idea but not the best. I have a TWSBI Classic which has similar thing and it just does not feel right. I think a better design would be what Hongdian did with the Black Forest. The plastic in the knob is probably much softer than the acrylic knob on the V126. I wonder if smoothing out the threads with high grit sand paper would help.
Wait, wait.... What's the other Asvine pen...? Oh, you are a tease.
I never realized that I've been entrenched in the hobby long enough where can relate with almost any pen comparison but can definitely say that when I started, having another common pen in its price range and another below helped me immensely with making a decision to buy. Especially so if there's added data like weight, dimensions, etc but I guess I just described a comparison video didn't I....😂
Anyway, I've had my original V200 for a couple of months now and use it often. Every time I put a new ink and give it a thorough cleaning I see slightly less and less carnage at the plunger side if that's worth anything 🤷🏻♂️ hopefully it's not because I'm losing more and more threads 😬
Are we about to get the reveal of the finished flex nibs!?
Nice review of the new color DB. I've had my V200 for a while now, and haven't had what might be considered excessive thread damage to the end cap threads. There has been a minimal amount that's hardly noticeable. The one problem I had with mine was the rubber seal used to create the vacuum has separated from the actuating rod. That may have happened due to not enough silicone grease applied often enough to keep it operating smoothly!! I'll know better once I empty the pen of ink and can clean it out. Then I'll be able to tell if I can reinstall it, or if I have to replace it from the spares kit I got. As for size comparisons when doing a review, to me it doesn't matter which other pens you use to highlight the size differences.
If you can remove the nib and feed try pushing something like a long, thin screwdriver or a nail into the barrel an pressing the seal back onto the rod. Best luck with the project, and let us know how (if?) it works.
@@judyjacobs5827 Depending on the pen, pushing a pointy sharp object into the pen is not always the wisest course of action. The beauty of the V200 is that it can be fully disassembled which means the nib comes out as a unit, the section unscrews from the barrel, and the parts to operate the filling mechanism can be unscrewed from the barrel as well. My plan for now is once the ink is used up (I don't like wasting a nice ink) I'll do a complete disassembly and then use my ultrasonic cleaner to get it sparkling. Then I'll be able to see if I can reuse the existing one, or if I have to use the spare rubber seal to get it working as the pen was designed. I do appreciate you putting forth a suggestion though!!
Safari and eco for size comparisons please. Both are reasonable to assume viewers will know the size of.
It looked like the blind cap on the end of the plunger wobbled a bit when you were showing us how the metal threads are chewing on the plastic. Also, there seems to be a lot of ink collected and sticking to the inside of the barrel. Is that caused by the material of the barrel, or poor fit of the plunger, or something else? Overall, nice and complete review, but boy howdy, I don't plan to buy this one. Thanks for showing us the pen, DB.
Pretty much all caps on vac fillers have a woble. Some don't depending on how it's designed and assembled, but the wobble doesn't impact how it works.
Yes, I think you should always have the Safari and the Eco for size comparison, along with a Kaweco Sport.
Speaking about Asvine only. For me the piston fillers like the p30 and p36 have especial place in my heart however this v200 is asking me to purchase it every time i see a video about it
My expectation is that they will release a V200 Mini to be a nice pocket pen.
My v200 never cross threads or has any buildup that I've seen, perhaps over time from use, but so far ok 👍 it would be nice if they used stainless threads for the back cap 👌😁
Looks to be the same material I have in a V126. Incidentally, that's the only Asvine I've ever been disappointed by, as the ink flow is poor. Never mind, this V200 looks very cool. I'm happy with my first issue, though. And no, no issues with the threads.
Metal and plastic threads need silicone grease to limit plastic threads from being damaged.
It helps but only so much. Having the right thread profile and a plastic with a sufficiently high durometer rating can eliminate the need for any grease. It costs a little more to makes the parts (material & machining costs) but you benefit in the long run when it comes to part longevity. The stuff just won't wear out and will outlive the user.
Standards are great
Pilot Metropolitan would be a good standard for size comparison.
An enjoyable review of the new color. Personally, I bought the clear V200 and returned it. The balance with the titanium components felt clumsy. I own three of the V126's in assorted colors and they are marvellous pens. There is also the issue of value. Two V126's for price of one V200, what is the better deal?
I'd prefer a standard pen to compare. Safari and eco would be great
About the bock nibs, I recently brought two Namisu with bock EF, both are unusable on arrival, skipping and generally not delivering ink. Even after tuning they're not smooth writers.
I also got a Namisu Pocket Nova with Bock nib (F) , and had the same experience, it was unusable out of the box. It was my first Bock nib and it's terrible, the nib slit is cut way off center and I'm still trying to tune it to be decent, it's a scratchy nail. The first time I filled the pen I got a huge drop of ink leaking out, but hasn't happened since.
What are your thoughts on sailor tuzu a new sailor entry level fountain pen, Potential future video?
This pen does seem to be a bit messy on plane rides. Am getting a fair bit of ink in the cap and on the section.
Lamy Safari or a Pilot G2 from any store would be great. I think some people may be looking for their first fountain pen when they come across your videos and I don't know a single person not familiar with a standard Pilot G2.
I can do a Lamy Safari but a G2 would require I my hands come in direct contact with a........ ball..... point.... 😮😦🤢🤮
@@Doodlebud 😂 I still use ballpoint for certain things. I don't like trying to press hard enough to use carbon copy paper with a gold nib
I agree, for first time fountain pen buyers. There's another channel that uses a Sharpie and an "office pen" as comparison.
@@Doodlebud Ackchyually, Doodlebud the G2 is classed as a gel pen, which some would consider an innovation over ballpoint. 😃
Can we have the P36 in this colorway? Pretty please? 😀
I personally don't like pens that are so "blocky" looking, and the end part of that pen I don't like. But the smoky color is nice.
I think in the case of at least these V200's that you should consider comparing them to the Vac 700R and the 700 mini Since these seem to be direct competitors to those pens.
I am planning a vac pen showdown at some point. There's another vac pen I want to get my hands on before I do
@@Doodlebud Oh interesting! I look forward to that!
there cool i may try one some day.... I know you like blue ink have you ever tried de atramentis dark blue? im running it in a l130 zoom seams to flow good.... its a document ink so its not fancy but with the zoom it has some contrast course different stock paper will produce a different result. if you have never tried it give it a shot ide like to know your thoughts or not.
Yes keep a standard pen for the size comparison always think it’s funny when people do it with pens no one was makes it pointless lol
its really cool and I love my regular v200, but i just cant pay $85/$100 for this pen.
If I went with the As one option and wanted to put a Bock nib I have hanging around can I just change the nib or is it a different feed provided? I’m going back through your videos to see how to do minor DIY jobs on the nibs and I seem to have some extra Bock nibs.
Is the top of the clip sharp? Mine (iris colored) is too sharp, annoying. Section threads also feel sharp.
2:02 by the way, in Turkish bock means shit.
You don’t mention the filling mechanism ! Are we to assume it is a vacuum filler or could it be a suction filler with a bayonet twist lock and release system ?
I believe the way Asvine assigns their names, V stands for vacuum filler, whereas P stands for Piston, and so on.
Check out his original review of the V200 titanium, he is very thorough, good information.
Be still my aching wallet.
