When I have replied the same to one of my HR, he asked how would you know the market standard and do you know that we have set the benchmark for this role in market
Simple. Websites like glass door has salary details. That’s your market search over there brother. I can understand what you’re thinking about market research but nobody can do that kind of research
I cracked interview here in Dubai 3 days before by answering this question honestly that I want to work now with more facilities . And I used answer the question of salary expectation by saying that I believe on company norms and standard policy but now 7yrs exprienced me direct I demand my expected Salary and Got Hired . So this all should not be depend on anyone suggestions it should be on yourself.
Moral of the story: Ask the budget for the position when u get the first call from the interviewer, so that if it doesn't match ur expectation and u need not waste ur time
Here is a piece of advice. Any company will pay you good, if you truly generate money for them. 90% of you are average. You have a life outside work. It's all about the balance. If you show effort towards work, it will show in your career. If it's 50-50, you will be average. The only way to make it up the ladder is if you are committed to your career. Some call it workaholic, some call it passion. Money comes today, goes tomorrow and comes again day after. True value is in how you build your experience and identity.
Ok enough of this, treat your interviews like a buisness deal rather than sucking up! be someone who knows own value. If possible Check average salary of that position in google and expenses of that particular city. Ask for a range when questioned, depending upon the experience that you have you can go beyond the initial range. The person interviewing you is a Human not an alien so don't be afraid to have casual talks, they try to understand you, you have to do the same. Always Negotiate with an advantage, if your performance in the interview is better than you expected then you can always ask for more before the final decision.
