There is no racial discrimination in stores. People just tend to live near people of same ethnic group as themselves and shop locally.

I would go shopping at Fox Hills mall all the time in LA. It’s 95% black people at the mall but I’m a white guy and I was never treated as anything but a regular customer at any of the shops there. It is probably a public perception that there are separate malls for races just based on the larger demographic of the surrounding neighborhoods.

    • @autohmae
      @autohmae ปีที่แล้ว +13

But the reason this separation of ethnic groups exists was started by racism. When you start looking into US zoning laws where they came from, etc. Their is definitely a racial component. Sadly. They were terrible laws then and current laws are still heavily influenced by them.

The US and Canada are not the same, they are two completely different countries. I highly doubt there are stores where black or white people cannot go to, even in areas like Alabama. Most likely there was a store that more people of a certain ethnicity perferred to go to because they felt more comfortable. Not that they were actually prevented from entering.

It may not be separate but if you go to certain areas of major cities in the US you will find there are many corner stores and supermarkets that primarily serve one community over another. Its not that anyone is prohibited but some may feel uncomfortable with the sorts that loiter around the place. That might be what they are referring to.

Its interesting to hear the broken telephone about countries. I live in Canada, and I've lived in Japan before, I've never heard of or experienced segregated grocery stores BUT we do have specialized grocery stores (Jamaican food in a Jamaican area, etc.) which makes sense because people from different ethnic backgrounds have different food "staples" they cook with everyday.

There's no racially segregated stores here in Canada. Someone please find those 3 girls and let them know. I think what the cousin probably experienced was that many stores will cater to the people of the area around them and in a city like Toronto there's tons of racial and ethnic groups, and they tend to cluster together (for obvious reasons). For example, in an area with a high population of Jamaican immigrants you're going to see a lot of specialized goods that you aren't going to see a few blocks away in the Polish neighborhood.
I'm wondering that sort of "Chinatown" or "Little Italy" type of ethnic neighborhood is something that most Japanese would have any experience with?

There are many ethnic neighborhoods in the US and Canada, so it's not that there's racial discrimination or banned people from entering the stores. However, there are stories of some small towns in the US that have a vibe where only white people seem welcomed, unfortunately.
There are some ethnic stores around in Japan too that cater to Chinese, Filipinos, Indians, and so on. Anyone is allowed to shop there, but maybe many of the people of that particular ethnicity tend to shop there more.

The stores may not be segregated, but we who live in America could point out a ghetto store or have at least herd of one. Being a subject of urban redevelopment I am a white minority placed in these situations and it is unwelcoming in these convenient stores and supper markets. The majority will flex there pride especially if there's a difference in intellectual property, or idol level.

To explain this, I will give an example of a large billboard with a advertisement for Pocky in a city in state different from a city in a different state that has an advertisement on a large billboard for a steak and egg dinner. Both have the food advertising close to the same price. Pocky is not a lot of chocolate on unleavened bread. The line between laughter and insanity is pretty thin; on the other hand, stake and eggs is quite a lot of substance for a meal, and especially impressive for the price of a box of Pocky. The line between laughter and insanity is wide. Now when dedicated consumers cross pass there is friction. There are so many of theas lines in America because of colonization of cultures, and post traumatic stress disorder from the hustle to be happy. People are often lost in control dramas. It becomes a constant survival of the strongest in the control dramas without insight. Many feed of the insecurities of others to feel better. It's really in every part of are cultural melting pot, so ethnic markets exhibit racism to avoid the friction of the thin and wide lines of laughter and insanity.

And if the difference in food seems to absurd to completely dislike someone, consider a anime convention participant buying some figurines and not a little but a bunch, a cupple hundred dollars worth. Then after hanging out and having fun with the cosplay and taking pictures with the news crews with a cool outfit and a special Freestyle bike and doing cool tricks and playing music. Returns to the convention with aggressive inline skates and all the figurines and smashes inline tricks on the expensive figurines till they're broken and worthless to a collector and throws them away. Next the vendor ignore and says they will not share. True story. The athlete values the sole of the aesthetic of the culture in absorbing the essence of the aesthetic into the performance till the figurines are spent. The collector is appalled and in turmoil with his existence in the multiverse as a fan boy who may of never had it. Reality crushed, and turned aginst freedom of expression.

Dressing in differently weird fashion with confidence is a stereotypical impression of what most foreigners think of Japanese people, and Japanese tourist traveling abroad are always associated with taking pictures of everything.

Studying poverty, becoming a member of staff for a politician, and influencing policy for foreign aid or international trade to lift these areas out of poverty can do a lot more good than giving someone $3 on the street. It’s unlikely that she’s on that path, but it is absolutely worthwhile to study the dynamics that underly the weath of nations.

I love your videos, and I'm studying Japanese on my own. However, I'm a little concerned about the reception I'd get if I came to visit. I'm 5'11" and double the weight of the average Japanese male (according to one of your videos). I'm pretty sure I'd look like a big, scary gorilla to the general public.

I don't think anyone will mind. Yeah if you're super huge sure but I don't think you are that all that big from your description, at least I wouldn't worry about anything bad happening. Don't be discouraged by the stories you hear of racism and xenophobia, Japan absolutely has issues with that for sure, but it is still largely welcoming towards tourists, particularly if you stick to the big cities.

The Japanese girls sound like Goddesses. The one that felt sorry for the Filipino kids is a good girl. I like the one with the sharp face with sleeveless black shirt, the one with brown hair, and the one mixed with Filipino that's dressed in black. I like how the guys admired people for their good qualities. They seemed to think that combining Western and or American ways with Japanese ways is a very good idea which I agree with. Yes, we should be individualistic and work as a team as they both seem to think. I have noticed that Japanese people are very subtle people which implies they are extremely intelligent. I feel that their culture breeds extreme intelligence since it often strives for perfection and discipline, but that puts a lot of pressure on them. It's so much pressure that many can't handle it. I noticed they tend to admire people who are striving for improvement; It's often about balance, harmony, and peace with them when it comes to improving themselves. They are very good at recognizing things that are very high quality in anything. Japanese culture is a military hierarchy where you must earn everything. The Samurai/Warrior/Martial Arts Mindset is always happening among them. Martial Arts is The Art of War and Peace and many are Masters of War over there. The Samurai Way is the way they live. If you are not good enough, they will often reject you. They strive for Godhood whether they know it or not. They are trying to reach Heaven whether they know it or not. They strive for Immorality whether they know or not. What is Perfection??? I have much more to say, but I can probably go on forever. Reading the air... Most Non-Japanese don't really know what that really means... They can feel it... They can think it... : )

I think it's really sad some Japanese are blind to how terrible Disney has become in recent years.
Boring CGI films and ugly live action woke remake movies no one cares about.
Destroyed the Star Wars and Marvel film franchises.
    Lectures it's customers and fans.
Doesn't bother improving or fixing thier U.S. theme parks.
And everything in their merchandise and services are far too overpriced beyond their poor quality and value.
If Disney is fun and still a special place in Japan it's because it hasn't been ruined by politics and greed yet.
Give it time, but I can't wait to see Japanese parents expressions when they seen their kids take pictures with a man in dress pretending to be a women.

Disneyland in Japan is run by the Japanese, so the quality of the theme park is always up to J standards. Even the goods they sell there are high quality and have greater variety than in the US. It's cheaper to go to TDL than to go to the US ones.
