The "broken Connector" aka Coupler is super easily replaced . Any train related hobby shop carries them. "Horn-Hook couplers" are what ya need. I have this set in it's entirety. When i had gotten mine as a kid, i had a few couplers missing , so i went to the local hobby shop, picked up a pack of couplers for 4 bucks. They should still be available en mass for real cheap today.
I got this set for Christmas one year. BEST present ever! My pops even made a plywood platform for it so it was always ready to play with! I wish I still had one....I'm guessing 42 is a little old for a train set...but I won't say nothing if you wont!
I loved this train more than any toy I ever received for Christmas. Almost as great as my go kart. It was incredible. It's one of those toys I'll never forget.
I loved this set. I actually have two versions of the locomotive, the original version that came with my boxed set, and another version that a guy's wife forced him to sell at a ridiculously low price. While I had lost most of my accessories, his set was almost complete, except for not having the battle map. I recently found my battle map in my grandmother's house, but it is in *really* poor condition after being stuck in the bottom of a closet for 20+ years.
I love this set! I found one recently at a toy show in great shape. So fun and nostalgic to play around with. I could only get mine to half speed unless I used just the locomotive. Awesome video!
Casimir1100 Same thing with me. I was far too young to remember the details of the set, but I do remember various pieces of it in my toy box as a kid (I didn't even recognize that the Tyco controller was part of this set)! After many, many years the few pieces that survived ended up in the attic. I recently pulled them out to care for them properly and the tanks shattered at the slightest touch. :( Note to all: the plastic does not hold up if kept in a hot environment!
I had (parts) from one of these sets when I was a kid. I think I got it from a pre-school I attended in the mid-1980's. Unfortunately, I only have a few of the original pieces left. I was too young to realize what a hot attic would do to the plastic over the years. The little tanks became so fragile & brittle that one shattered just by putting the pieces together! Fortunately, I was able to find a brand-new set on Ebay this past summer. The price was decent so I couldn't pass it up. It wasn't shrink-wrapped, but all the pieces were still sealed in the original bags inside (my set has the parachutes included, so that's a nice bonus). You're right about the lack of proper packing materials; the individual parts were pretty much free to move around inside the box. I was afraid some things would end up broken while in transit. Fortunately, they all survived the trip.
I got this for Christmas 1983 and I still have it to this day. I have the box, map, trains and all the plastic men and vehicles. The only thing I'm missing are the Parachutes. I didn't get the "oops" message... I probably just lost them or ripped them and threw them away.
+cobalt sentry Cool man! It is always nice to have old stuff from your childhood. It can bring back a lot of good and cool memeres. Did you ever have the Transformers one?
the thing is called a transformer or power pack locomotive, gondola, tank car, flatcar & caboose if you need a coupler go to train stores or Ebay to find them them Playmats are typical of Tyco
+Eugene The date has already been corrected on the title and the website, I made the determination it was 1983 from looking at the box and the Sears catalog. I simply haven't updated the video.
+Gothiczartan I think so too! It would be nice to see it in the cartoon from the 80's or in one of the cartoon intros. Maybe have it go around their headquarters or some thing! It would also be cool to see them make a Cobra Version!
rare find, i have one used i would sell for $200 this is even much more valuable, yeah i even got two parachutes lol i also have a Rare US1 tyco army set up that goes exactly with this set up :) nice find guys!
I got one of these sans G.I. Joe stickers So I got some cheap letter stickers & put on US Army on everything but put on Texaco on the tank car Do need the G.I. Joe stickers
With my Transformers one if you take the speed up anymore than a little bit it goes really fast and I do not know why. Maybe it is the box! I do not think it is the right box! Can anyone help me?
+Ryan Freeland New examples of these Tyco trains are kinda pricey since they're 30+ years old. I managed to get a mint-in-box example on Ebay this past summer for under $200.00, but that was a lot less than the seller was expecting. Used sets are pretty common though...
OK!!! How much is it? I may not have the all money right now. I will see what I can do! If I do not can you hold it for a little while? I do not have to many jobs to do the moment. Grass is drying out for winter so there is not to much grass to mow. I went to the web store and did not see it. Thank You!!!
You open that box up and I had the biggest letdown of my whole life I would have threw every bit of it in the trash when I open up that empty box and seen that little bit of crap after all that time waiting and I will open it up and seen that I would have been pissed with a capital p
Yeah but when you see that opening video you're like yeah man this is going to be so cool and then you open it up in your like damn they got me check out my channel I saved a 30-40 year old engine last year myself whole train set by the way I'm building a great big train set massive man cave I have a movie theater underneath it plus I'm having a giveaway if you in to Terminator you're going to love it
I did enjoy the video though next time you want to put together a train set let me know and I'll give you a few pointers first like if you would have just popped the whole wheel truck assembly off of the Caboose you could have took it off of the flat car and swap them around but the couplers are pretty easy to swap out to
I called that number today, and it's a medical call center. If you're over fifty years old, they will talk to you and give you a free gift. Unfortunately, it's not a parachute.
+Eugene The date has already been corrected on the title and the website, I made the determination it was 1983 from looking at the box and the Sears catalog. I simply haven't updated the video.
I'm a model train guy, I've got the Special Forces gondola. Tyco also made similar types of train sets for MASK, Transformers, etc.
than you for documenting this toy because this brings me back. I never thought I would see this toy working again
you are very welcome!!!

You can never be too old or too young to have fun with trains

This is an awesome set and runs like a dream
Interesting. Tyco also put out a Transformers, M.A.S.K , A team and Rambo train sets out in the mid 1980s.
Thank you all for the feedback! We hope to do a trucking set review soon!
I called the number to get the parachutes and it turns out to be Colorado University now
Its really a front for COBRA U!!!!!
Had this when I was a kid. We stuck the map on a piece of plywood and nailed the track down

I used to have this. Was stolen with the rest of my huge collection. This was a pretty cool set to have.
Those Tyco trains are so fragile, I don't know if the Gi joe train set was the same way. Great video mate. Cheers!
Very very cool! Fun to watch!
i remember this ad quite well.
quality products have remarkable shelf life
That Train set would be great for the GI Joe comic book appearance.
+Gothiczartan I think so too! It would be nice to see it in the cartoon from the 80's or in one of the cartoon intros. Maybe have it go around their headquarters or some thing! It would also be cool to see them make a Cobra Version!
The Trucking Set has an awesome Cobra Base!
yep, you guys have that?
Easy platform to relive the Gold Heist Episode
I have this including everything in the box
Not so impressed by the train but I did have the F-14 Tomcat, the Apache chopper, and the M1 A1 Abrams tank... GI Joe versions... cool stuff!

I had it when I was a kid. The 80s were the last decade when America was America
I agree 100%
Same although the 2000s were an interesting time too in American history
I wasn't sure if i made this up in my head or not. I'm not crazy!!!
I got one of these sans G.I. Joe stickers
So I got some cheap letter stickers & put on US Army on everything but put on Texaco on the tank car

With my Transformers one if you take the speed up anymore than a little bit it goes really fast and I do not know why. Maybe it is the box! I do not think it is the right box! Can anyone help me?

That G.I. Joe Flag Aircraft carrier is so big you can use it as a table or a work bench. 😄 LoL
Did you ever get the parachutes?
Cool! I want to get this one! I have the Transformers one! Do you have one you can sell or part with?
+Ryan Freeland Sure do! Contact me via 3DJoes.com (twitter and Facebook links are in the top right)

How much did you pay. We're dying to know.
I had the trucking set
When you want to sound like you know about model railroading, but you can't. XDXDXD
LOL we are G.I.Joe collectors, not train collectors!
Do you know the song that goes...
Dooo dooooooooooooooo do do do do do do do dooooooooooooooooooo do do!!!!!!
Looks like it got bumped around a lot over the last 34 years the way the inside pieces were all messed up.
I called the number
I need your leftover sticker
i also have the tanker car.
I think "Justin " might be hard up for some friends to allow this for such a rare item and not even be part of the unboxing
Bob Billings nah man, he just is a hell of a collector that wanted it to be documented 3DJoes style.
You open that box up and I had the biggest letdown of my whole life I would have threw every bit of it in the trash when I open up that empty box and seen that little bit of crap after all that time waiting and I will open it up and seen that I would have been pissed with a capital p
Hahaha, nah man, was drinking beer with a good friend and opening toys. It's hard to be mad when life is that good!
Yeah but when you see that opening video you're like yeah man this is going to be so cool and then you open it up in your like damn they got me check out my channel I saved a 30-40 year old engine last year myself whole train set by the way I'm building a great big train set massive man cave I have a movie theater underneath it plus I'm having a giveaway if you in to Terminator you're going to love it

those switchers were underpowered and not very reliable
try useing some Bachman H-O scale E-Z track from your nearest Local Train Hobby shop Dealer.
I called that number today, and it's a medical call center. If you're over fifty years old, they will talk to you and give you a free gift. Unfortunately, it's not a parachute.
Gi joe
tyco is out of bisnuess
It's called a TRANSFORMER!! Not a 'battery or what ever you call that thing'. Duh!!
