- Fair warning, I love Zero Tolerance knives, and this one is no exception. This review will be incredibly biased. It’s basically going to be me gushing over this knife for 5 minutes. I believe Ken Onion forged it in the fires of Mt.Olympus for me, not you, not your best friend, or even your dog. Just. Me. It’s as if Ken Onion peered deep into my soul, and asked me what do you want Jeff, do you want eternal life, do you want Clear Pepsi back, or do you want to air assault from a gunship into the pits of hell, dual-wielding two of these bad boys? Clearly, I’ve chosen the latter.

Great editing! I was always hesitant to get this knife because of the assist, but it is definitely one of my favorite designs from ZT and Ken Onion. Nice clean cut! Definitely sharp
Thanks man! Ya it's a looker for sure. The 0300 is my current grail. Looks like the 0350 but different grip and it's bigger. I don't think it has assist. But it's like $300-400 on Ebay.

My brother was SF for 12 year's. I bought him that the zt 0350 for Christmas one year. He carried for 3 tours. He carries it today still.
I've had the ZT 0301 for about 15 years. Kinda the big brother to the 350. One of my faves. Great video.
I don't usually go around smacking a knife on the back on the blade, so I probably won't cut my knuckle; not a safety issue but a "why did you do that" issue? :)

Because it is a safety issue and that it could happen during hard use . Apparently you feel that hitting the back of the blade could never happen in real life , well it does . The Kershaw Blur does the same thing but I redid the liner lock to make it more safe . So should people who have never been in an accident not wear the safety seat belt because they had never seen the need ? This is why he is calling that a safety issue .
@@joejohnson4183 It is a valid concern, but rare is the man who buys a new car with the best safety belts on the market with the intention to crash into a brick wall at 45mph as a test.
@@Downhaven But common is the fool that drinks and drives that runs into other cars and hard objects . And that is why they have safety features on cars , for people's safety for the unfortunate accident , same with knives .
Defect: certainly it is there. ZT alludes to this on their website. You can tell that the liner lock doesn't extend as far as it should IMO. If you plan on smacking the back of the knife, you should probably look for a knife that is a fixed blade.
With that knuckle cut, I bet it did get 5/5 on the cutting rating. lol

Revealing video! Thanks for the warning of being able to slam shut; which makes any sort of stabbing action somewhat eye opening, especially after seeing that mighty fine cut. Now I’m going to test all of my liner locks 😒
I own 5 Zero Tolerance knives and the 350 is the one I carry with me to work everyday. I have medium sized hands and I enjoy the jimping which is rough enough to actually be useful. The DLC will scratch especially when the knife scrapes up against other steel while cutting. Anyways, great review and while my other ZT knives are safe queens, the 350 is with me everyday. I don't even mind the extra weight of it because I know it is strong enough for any abuse, plus the 350 is WAY lighter than my carry pistol lol

I've had this knife as my EDC since around 2014... Only complaint is I wish the G10 was a little grippier.

I agree. It’s an enduring classic for a number of reasons. I took out the torsion bar and it made all the difference in the world, to me. Super smooth with the perfect amount of detent. Great video!
I saw a video a long time ago comparing the real ZT0350 to the counterfeit. It brought up the locking failure issue and how the counterfeit holds well so I bought the counterfeit on Aliexpress back when they were about $50. It’s a great knife and the safer option.
I own this knife and so far as you state I have not found any problems but that’s simply because I’m not abusing the absolute shit out of it to test its durability. But I appreciate this video because it shows how it will hold up after certain tasks. I know when doing a spine wack test it tests the lock up of the knife and well the knife failed… other than that it’s not a bad knife and I still have yet to carry mine and use it for a utility blade I also heard it can be used for combat as well if needed.

I was having second thoughts about buying this knife but now I’m definitely going to get it thankfully I don’t smack my knife against hard objects so I won’t get a gnarly cut like that I’m surprised you still gave it such high praise
Yeah, I mean unless someone is trying to chop wood (with a pocket knife) on the spine of the blade for some odd reason, I don't really foresee it being an issue.
@@drouleau Really not like having the blade open in your hand and then turn around real fast and bang it into like a door frame or wall . This does happen in real life .

I felt it was time to add a big, bad brother to my lil Onion Leek. Got one of this bad boys on eBay used in my favorite steal, ZDP-189 limited run. Like it even more than I thought I would, making the bevel a low 16 degrees makes it a wicked cutter also. Good ergos for big hand, wonderful recurve and grind, and ultra smooth assist. Feels more heavy use with less construction issues than my Emerson Mini Horsemen (Emerson QC really is not worth what they charge, a shame).
Awaiting the arrival of my 0350TS Great Review.. The weight actually appeals to me. Too Light is NG to me.. My First ZT Knife,, I will be reviewing it on my channel! Thank you for your great Review

Great content brotha love that stop motion with the shavings into the ZT logo! I've never really given this knife a chance because of the SpeedSafe. Just not a fan of assisteds, kept me away from a couple BMs as well. But after seeing this I might have to at least give it a shot.

Deep carry means harder to get out of my pocket
75% of ZT’s fail like this and it’s appalling, it could absolutely fail under pressure if the Lock is that loose against the Blade. I have Benchmade and Spyderco etc. and even SOG you could do that all day long and never have that type of failure. I tried my old Presidio after this video and NEVER had a failure and I was hitting twice as hard as you were. I like ZT’s looks but performance and quality is what counts. Semper Fidelis
I have 2 ZT's the 0350 and the new 0308. Both have rock solid lockup with none of these lock failures that I see on the interwebs. I was obsessed for a bit and spine whacked the shit out of both knives and I literally could not get them to fail. The lock geometry on my 0350 is great and there is about 100% contact between the liner and the blade. My 0308 is a little less but will break in with use. Again, I have spine whacked and stabbed these relentlessly with zero failures so I guess YMMV
@@diducthesizeoftahtchickenmine is the same way. I whacked the hell out of it for a while and its never come undone. I suspect that there was a batch or a couple that didn’t have the right mill on the liner lock.

I’ve always wanted to get one of these. Several years ago I bought a 0561 that was really my first venture into modern higher end folders. Other than the belt clip being a bit loose it’s been a great knife. I need to give it more love lately and put it into rotation. Awesome video and editing!

I've been carrying one of these knives daily since they first came out in 2010 and it still operates like brand new
So this was the last knife within the ZT lineup that I bought, It was my last straw that finally broke the camel's back..
I love love loved this knife, excluding the F'ing infamous failing ZT lock-up. Literally wanted to make this knife work so bad, that I tried 3 different ones before I finally had to give up and let it go..
The knife looks sexy, feels great in hand, can be assisted or have the spring removed for manual flipping, and just feels like an extension of my hand. I spent thousands on ZT knives before I finally realized that a knife over $150 shouldn't fail with so little pressure applied to the opposite cutting end of the blade.
And I honestly don't get it, cause my other knives such as my lowly Ontario rat 1 has a great lock up and has never failed me and would break before it did, and it's only around $50. I've had so many ZT knives that can't get the lock right, and I just don't get it, seeing how the rest of the build quality is perfect..
10months ago, bought my first "real knife", a ZT 0350. Had to throw on a MXG clip. It's the one that got me into knives.....+25 knives later. Fanastic knife that takes everything you can throw at it. The only competition for heavy duty in my collection is a Shaman.

Shaman is superior is pretty much every way and I own both. I just got a 350 on a trade and someone told me about the lock problem. It definitely seems super sturdy for a liner lock and probably won't do anything crazy with it so probably fine. Wanna try to remove the pivot spring assist.
That Ken Onion serrations are the only serration I will ever willingly pay for & smile doing it.

Ya I have a Tiger print cerated blade. It’s come open in my pocket a time or two. Bit me twice the first day I had it. But still love this knife.
I have the 0303TS - slightly larger version of the 0350 at 8.3 oz, but man it's such a nice and beefy knife. I love it, although not ideal for carrying around everywhere in your pocket due to the weight, which my Spyderco Para 3 (in cru-wear) fits the bill perfectly for.

Has anyone found out why the lock fails or if it can be fixed? Because otherwise I think this is a great knife. I'm emailing back and forth with ZT and sent them a link to your video.

I’m guessing the best solution to that flaw is to get the 301-302-303 instead, which is pretty same knife but half of an inch bigger and instead of liner lock it’s a frame lock
I've seen 0301 frame lock do the same fail on another video years ago when they were still available... It was my dream knife back then but it's a major fault...

Excellent review ! I'm on the fence about this guy. I like most everything about it, looks heavily ergonomic friendly. I *absolutely hate* all the advertising opposite the show side though. Especially that huge curved "Ken Onion Design".. Why ZT? Why ruin such a beautiful blade finish ? Also not a fan of that lock failure. Glad you pointed that out! Does this action feel similar to a Kershaw Blur or Leek ? I'm fairly new to ZT. Spyderco is #1 in my carry / collection.

i get cold steel (espada) and love those knives but the ken onion 0350 g10 handle and its a tank! it feels great in hand the only thing i dont like is the paint it makes me feel like its too pretty to use lol but its a beast and who tf is going to smack the knife on the tang like that? its just asking to get cut.
also i have the cold steel oyabun and it has a lock so this cant happen!

Hey, thanks for the video. So about the failing locking mechanism.... Would it shut like that during actual use? Or just when you hit the back? I love the heft of this blade but have zero interest in getting hurt lol.
Sorry for the late reply. It does fail under very specific usage. That would be if you were overhand stabbing something with the blade facing away from you with great force. Like if you were to use a football throwing motion with the knife and come down and stab meat with bone in it, it could potentially fail. I could see this scenario playing out both offensively and defensively.
As far as everyday use though, you'd be fine. It's built for edc. Not so much so hard use, self defense, or combat.
Sooo this knife can cut your fingers off because of a flaw that the company knows about yet will not correct, and it is over priced because its made here in America, and this is your fav knife? 🤔🤔 U need to really experience more things. Like different knives.
Pissy little scratch for some stitches would of super glued it and kept on
Cut the shit out if my hand with this knife. The blade shape digs in where that belly is. Ended up with 11 stitches
