Many people myself included have this disabled in our settings on Xbox one and it makes crossplay communications via voice chat impossible. I finally found this fix, hope it helps
Worked fine for a month on my PS4 to my friends Xbox. Now it's fucked again he can hear me but I can't hear him. It's frustrating.and we didnt change any settings.
My fix for this is it seems to be randomly muting people hence why you can hear someone but not others, when you start a game look at the scoreboard and see if anyone has an X next to there name the game may have randomly muted them. This worked for me anyway :)

But all together in call of duty modern ware fare I can’t use game chat. Everything is enabled. I can hear them but they can’t hear me

But with game chat quality being lower than party chat I feel like most people just stick in party chat. I’ve only had one lobby where multiple people are actually talking

Well my Xbox One had “everybody” as the default and it still doesn’t work even with the in-game mic settings for CHAT and VOICE set to 200% or higher. I think it’s time to ditch Xbox altogether and migrate to PS. This isn’t my only issue but with game add-ons always coming to us later than PS and many other settings not working I’m done.
something happen to me im on XBOX1 cross playing with friends but can't hear no on happen to me yesterday. i fix it :) i wish i made a video how to fix it for you guys but i will try to explain it how to fix it i hope it work for you all first make sure there's no CD in the XBOX 1 all i did was unplug my power cable from the XBOX wait 30 seconds it reboots like a router after that plug your power cable back into the XBOX1 for some of you like me it loading and take awhile. after that put your CD in there see if you can hear people if you can it fix also i went ahead and unplug my router to think it was that but it wasn't my internet. also make sure your NAT is set to OPEN. if not set to open it can have trouble of talking and also laggy good luck everyone also sure work for PS4 people too

Yeah I managed to get it working by just jumping into a game with friends, next issue now is constant lag most games 😒

See everyone is muted at first but I hit the mute all button on the menu and now everyone becomes unmuted. The tab doesn’t appear tho
But yeah I agree Next gen I may switch again only thing is PlayStation can’t connect to my 5g network only my 2g network soo download speeds are less
