When this song was released, travel agencies were slammed with calls. EVERYONE wanted to go to Kokomo. People didn't know Kokomo is an imaginary place.
Great reaction video the Caribbean sea has many wonderful Islands to visit or even live in kokomo is a fictitious place but the other islands mentioned are real
This is such a fun song! Brian Wilson was the genius songwriter of the group. They span many decades but I love their early stuff from the 60's-70's. Their music conveys such happy innocent days of youth (surfing, cars, romance). They had tons of hits such as "Surfin' U.S.A.", "Surfin' Safari", "I Get Around", "California Girls", "Help Me, Rhonda", "Barbara Ann", "Sloop John B.", "Fun Fun Fun", "Little Deuce Coupe", "God Only Knows", "In My Room", "Good Vibrations" etc.
In 1988 the Beach Boys set an all-time record: Longest Dry Spell between #1 hits. This was their first #1 since "Good Vibrations" back in 1966... twenty-two years between #1's. I believe that record still stands.
Believe it or not the Beach Boys had some of the most complicated vocals and music ever according to an article I read. They just make it all look so easy❤
I attended a beach boys concert at the Ventura County Fair years ago. Metal stands set up on the beach, ocean bakground but i didnt want to go, got talked into it. I have never had as much fun at a concert in my 75 years. So glad my friends pushed me to go.
The Beach Boys, Dick Dale, Jan & Dean... surf rock was special. Good things seem to move in cycles, so maybe it will come back someday. Hope I'm still around when it does. ;)

This was much later in their career. They had not had a #1 record since Good Vibrations 22 years earlier in 1966. The song actually did way better than the movie it was from, "Cocktail."
Sarah welcome to summertime music. Check out LITTLE DUECE CUEPE , GOOD VIBRATIONS and others. They were a band from California. They brought out good times.
Hi Sarah - true story - my daughter was in the 9th grade, the geography teacher asked the students which Caribbean islands etc. they knew and could name. The result was more or less. Bahamas, Montigo, Aruba, Jamaika and so on. When no one else answered, my daughter stood up and named the island of Kokomo, knowing full well that this island doesn't exist. The teacher was astonished at first, then he laughed, and wanted to know why she knew this island. My daughter told me about our Sunday music quiz that we listen to at breakfast. Since I'm an absolute music freak, my daughters were tortured with my music on these Sundays (LOL) The other students were all totally surprised - my daughter told even more - the atmosphere was great. The teacher was pleased with the spontaneity and knowledge of the music they heard, there was a lot of discussion about it and my daughter ultimately received the top grade of 1 from the teacher.
I've always loved this song. It's so catchy and just so 😊
Makes me feel good when I'm down. Better than a psychiatrist!😻

Fun song! My Uncle went to HS with the Beach boys, He said they weren't really surfers bc too busy in the studio. Beach scenes were photo ops
@@ps4jade Dennis Wilson was the only surfer.
From the movie Cocktails with Tom Cruize. The drummer on this one is John Stamos
Despite there being no real Kokomo paradise, the scenes are from the Tom Cruise film Cocktail, filmed in Jamaica.
This was a big hit when my daughter was first born I used to rock her around with this song and dance with her
Great song!! Have always loved the Beach Boys. Made so many great, fun songs! 😅
Beach Boys are happy music.

Love this song by the legendary Beach Boys. Loved watching your face light up when the steel drums kicked in, you have a beautiful smile.

Every body wants to go to Kokomo.
Haha, you should watch the Muppet version of this. Miss Piggy gets mad at Kermit the frog and the hula dancers.
Sarah, The Beach Boys was the first concert that I ever attended! It was in 1978! Great memories! Thanks for the reaction!

KOMOMO is my go-to chill song to sing and jam to, in the style of Steve Carrel in “Space Force” (great scene! It’s here on YT)
One of their catchiest tunes - love hearing it!

There is no island named Kokomo. But there is a small town in rural Indiana named Kokomo. This came as a surprise to The Beach Boys as well.
Been there. Done that.
I would call it a large town, or very small city.
But boring AF, though.

I wonder if Chuck Berry knew? He used the name in "Riding along in my automobile"
