And inorder for Chaos elementals to spawn you have to be moving and have no player placed walls. Also 2 if you drop all of your gear you are in essence losing efficiency and risking having your items deleted. Besides I like the cleverness that went in to this build. He be a mad lad
Once upon a time, I was building a RoD farm, and a RoD dropped! Once upon another time, I was exploring my newly spawned hallow and my fourth Chaos Elemental dropped a RoD. I have come to the conclusion that I have expended my lifetime supply of luck.
One of my friends really hates how lucky I am with the game, I got an amber mosquito after using 15 silt. He never got it until he spawned in about 6+ stacks of desert fossils in journey mode. He's been playing since the beginning of the game by the way.
You can increase efficiency by a bit more by placing enough blocks so that it also counts as a jungle biome. Now they spawn even faster and the spawn cap is a bit higher.
Great video; it was interesting seeing how you dealt with the mimics and such that phase through walls. Few notes for other viewers (I'm pretty sure Khaios knows all this already): 1. When clearing the area for your farm, leaving the bottom 50 blocks empty does NOT prevent spawns; it simply moves them into the despawn zone (where they will despawn quickly). This does not happen at all when filling in the blocks, because solid blocks DO prevent spawns. From my limited testing (in 1.3 with crazy spawn rate mods), this difference does affect the farm efficiency albeit very minor. You can solve this by filling in the spawnable area below the platforms; I recommend sand for this since it is very abundant and is affected by gravity. In the example from your video (+-85 on either side & +-50 vertically), it would take 8500 blocks if you filled it from the bottom to the platform. I wouldn't bother with it for a one-time use farm like a Rod of Discord farm, but it's probably worth it if you were making the farm more multipurpose and swapping the biome around as needed. 2. Regarding multiple platforms for spawning, it doesn't have an impact on rates. The game determines a mob needs to be spawned, then it starts searching for a spot to put it. # of spawnable blocks isn't part of the equation. Fun side note; if the number of spawnable blocks did affect spawn rates, the ideal spawn area would need to be atleast +-132 on each side and +-72 in height. This is because a Sniper w/ scope makes the spawning range expand (just by holding it; you don't even have to be scoping, the weapon just needs to be selected). Doing so would let you fit in ~3 more sets of 22 block long platforms on either side of the farm. It would also more than double the amount of blocks you have to remove to build the farm. 3. Lastly, your "Safe despawn spot" doesn't need to be due east or west, just underground (to prevent events and rogue mech boss spawns). I recommend having it send you near some underground NPC's in a far away area you've already prevented biome spreading in, + a peace candle. This is just so your safespot doesn't become an underground hollow/corruption/etc and subsequently become not very safe anymore. Likewise, the NPCs + Peace candle will drastically reduce the chances that anything spawns (just in case). Best of luck out there!
U should fill it with walls and not blocks, which will be 4x more efficient resource wise and will also leave u with a huge space for whatever projects that require no mob spawns :) Make sure to leave no holes though, and to NOT put walls where u will afk, since it's a spawn condition for Chaos Elementals!

In order to help with your inventory filling up you can empty out your void vault and carry a void bag on you to pick up items once your inventory fills up. And to help with clearing out the farm area you can use explosives (the block) in specific spots to reduce how many blocks have to be manually mined. And something to keep in mind to prevent biomes from spreading out of the chamber is to have a 3 block gap of air or barrier of neutral blocks between the inside and outside of the chamber
Also, if you get the broken modifier on your blade staff, it reduces the damage so it can hit the enemies more times before they die, thereby granting more coins from the enemies.
Enemies despawn instantly if you go 12 screens away, so that is how far the despawn spot should be. If it is closer, enemies take some time to despawn, and some may remain. This also means that you could probably change that 5 second timer to a 1 second one, making the farm even more efficient
@@phoenixt8026 Depends on the world size and how deep you build it... I haven't heard of this particularity myself, but it's interesting information to know. However, wire is cheap and you may as well build the despawn box at the furthest point you can, no? Better than building it twice...
yes and no. part of the reason why you'd need the longer wait time is to heal back up. it is unlikely, but possible that a biome mimic spawns right away again and again killing you at some point
a useful addition to this is having more conveyor belts to the middle in the kill chamber, to ensure that any drops that land on the edges get carried to you
I have built this farm like five times and oh my gosh is it awesome. Great for re-purposing for other biomes too. Trick I use, make the biome block zone out of exactly 1499 blocks of ice, 1499 blocks of sand, and 139 jungle grass. Have a chest with one additional of each block, and you can get the farm to emulate any required biome.

When I encounter situations where I get killed in afk farms, my (laziness) solution is to place a bed and set spawn at the very location where I should be afking (or close enough.) so I just die and respawn again into afk session. This is only for softcore, and does not deal with enemies that will stay there well. Khaios's solution is such an inspire.

For those of you who don't want to build the complicated teleporter setup with all of the wiring, I just put on a set of turtle armor* and used a good sword* and just used treadmills to move for the chaos elementals. I bound left and useitem to my spacebar, and just held it down with a weight so I could move (thanks to the right moving treadmills) while swinging my sword to kill the mimics. I did have some decent accessory modifiers to increase defense, but I just used the regen setup and I was able to fully afk while still being attacked by hallowed mimics since I could kill them before they killed me. So you don't need to build that entire complicated setup unless you're pre-mechanical bosses and can't craft turtle armor. *Shells have a very high drop rate if you enhance your luck with biome torches and gnomes *I used the terrablade, but a true excalibur or a night's edge would probably work too
For maximum regen/tanking to go with this farm, you can use the following accessories alongside the frog leg and greedy ring: -Band of Regeneration -Charm of Myths -Cross Necklace -Brain of Confusion/Worm Scarf (if on expert mode, if on master mode, use both) Reforge all of these to warding. If you want more passive regen instead of minion slots, use the squire armor. This should greatly improve your survivability against repeated hallowed mimic attacks.
If you place some chests next to where you stand and fill them with all potential drops (IE souls of light, apple pies, banners, rods of discord) you can quick stack to them so that you don't need to clean your inventory nearly as often

Farm also works for other biome types, so if you need biomes keys, use the appropriate block in place of pearlstone. I also recommend building as much of the farm as you can pre-hardmode, as any interruptions that spawn will be much weaker and less annoying than their hardmode variants.
Works like a charm! Been afk for maybe 5hrs, and I have 3 rods of discord. Absolutely Insane! Also curious, why haven't there been any uploads for a month. If there's stuff goin on, no rush.

Although i have to say i used another farm setup before, and already spend like 6 hours in that one. IMPORTANT - To point out, is that i ended up in a endless loop like some others already mentioned. I kept teleporting back and forth to the despawn chamber. It took me reading trough most of the replies to realise that the pressure plate in the despawn chamber, is the " crafted version" the Weighted Pressure Plate. Crafted with a regular one, 2 iron bars and some wire. At the tinkerers station. All in all still working and a great farm to build, alone already for fun's sake of seeing it work for yourself. very cool, on another note, in the despawn station you don't need the bast statue as nothing should damage you there, nor the honey, as you would still have 30 seconds of the buff left when you teleport there.
Now, you can make a build on the left side of your farm teleporter, like the Maw of some beast, or the entrance of an ominous temple. Also, can you place walls (outside your afk/spawning zone ofc) to spruce up the farm?
Haha yeah, they're pretty rare. Unfortunately there's a reason for that. They don't perform all too well with the algorithm, as not nearly as many people watch tutorials. And I have to keep the AI overlord happy, so I can't do them often. I try to sprinkle them in occasionally though.
I'm only here because I needed something to watch while organizing my chests, but just a little help for those who are here for the afk farm. So to debunk the belief that adding extra layers will increase spawn rates, they simply don't. However many enemies spawn is only affected by Sunflowers, Invisibility Potions, Fairies, Water/Peace Candles and Battle/Calming Potions. Only Water Candles and Battle Potions increase enemy spawn rates. All that adding layers really does is give enemies different places to spawn. The only reason I can come upon as to adding extra layers is basically what Khaios said in the video about getting different types of enemies to spawn.
I got my 1st Rod of Discord thanks to your guide, this AFK farm worked perfectly even it's Jan 2022 now. Just a small QoL improvement, instead of abusing your keyboard "space bar", you may consider using gaming mouse with some built in macro like Logitech one, 1 button toggle on-n-off will make your farming journey way easier.
If you don’t want for hallow mimics to teleport with you and don’t want to place the four blocks inside the chamber, you can use a pressure plate that only activates when a player goes on it. Also playing on Japanese version
Pro tip, if you're clearing out the area with a celebration mk 2, it can be easy to destroy your player area!! Surround your player area with a hard mdoe ore such as cobalt or adamantite and it should become immune to the rockets! EVen if you lose the blocks you placed there, the ore outline will still remain, alloiwng you to remmebr where the spot actually was!
Bro, the water trick is top tier. Also, this AFK kill farm is awesome. I've been making these for months, but I've had the toughest time with getting my conveyor belts to work. Imma try this!
I had to make this farm three times, first after I finished didn't work because of biome, second after I finished my world got corrupted and had to rebuild my whole house again (NEVER HIT THE SAVE WORLD TO CLOUD BUTTON).
Looks like they changed the way block collision works in 1.4.4. The four extra blocks that you place in the AFK box to keep biome mimics from landing will keep you from being able to stand in the box. You’ll be inside the floor when you try to teleport in.
DUDE THAN YOU! This is 100% a 11/10 farm and even after getting RODs its a really good money farm if you just sit there without the auto jump. Again, 11/10 farm.
So I tried this after the 1.4.4 update, and the first time I tried it, it worked perfectly. *chefs kiss*. But then I got a new phone and had to rebuild it, and annoyingly, whether I was stepping or getting knocked onto the pressure plate or not, it would teleport me to despawn every five seconds. So I have to give my advice: use a PINK weighted pressure plate. It'll stop it going off and on over and over. Other than that, love this video, you are awesome, hopefully I'll get a RoD before too long.
Great video! Not sure if others have mentioned, but if you put a row of obsidian down before you pour your lava in, it will keep your loot drops from being destroyed. Helps if you accidently put a little too much lava in your trap or just in general. Also, a tip I saw from @happydays, if you fill in the background underneath your afk farm with player made walls, it should keep enemy spawns from spawning bellow you.

I had an idea about what to do about the Enchanted Swords: Make a vertical dart trap battery to the left and right of the volcano, where you placed the bulk of the Pearlstone. Enchanted Swords stop attacking when they get hit, so you can stunlock them and prevent them from ever hitting you. Unfortunately you can't prevent the Biome Mimics from hitting you, and neither can you prevent the Rune Wizard... Amazing farm though, thanks for the video!
I just made this farm for myself and it works perfectly! but there's one small issue, whenever the teleporter gets activated it triggers the timer so that I teleport every 5 seconds, rather than just 5 seconds after I go the the despawn area, I tried moving the pressure plate up one with a platform bur that doesn't seem to fix it. Any ideas on what to do anyone?
I think i spotted a problem with the farm : If minions kills enemies high in the air (like bats or enchanted swords), and those drops souls of light, the player won't be able to pick them. It'll slowly fill the item pool, because they don't despawn while teleporting away. It is really a small issue, i don't think it has a great influence in term of loots (cuz you dropped a LOT of rods of discord), and i don't see how to fix it. But anyway, great job man, it'll sure help me in my runs ^^

On the matter of continously moving in order to spawn elementals; you can also build a small piece of rail with bumbers on each end, needs to be 3 tiles wide minimum. Sitting in a cart keeps momentum infinitely. I solved the issue with mimics by placing multiple teleporters on their way to my spot; they end up flying at me in an endless loop, getting put back to square one until my spears have finished them off. I left it on during a night's sleep IRL, it was still going, so it's foolproof without needed an autoclicker or such. Needs e decent amount of spear traps though.

*Shells have a very high drop rate if you enhance your luck with biome torches and gnomes
*I used the terrablade, but a true excalibur or a night's edge would probably work too

Awesome, I've been looking for a good RoD farm and we got one from the pro!
For maximum regen/tanking to go with this farm, you can use the following accessories alongside the frog leg and greedy ring:
-Band of Regeneration
-Charm of Myths
-Cross Necklace
-Brain of Confusion/Worm Scarf (if on expert mode, if on master mode, use both)
Reforge all of these to warding.
If you want more passive regen instead of minion slots, use the squire armor.
This should greatly improve your survivability against repeated hallowed mimic attacks.
If you place some chests next to where you stand and fill them with all potential drops (IE souls of light, apple pies, banners, rods of discord) you can quick stack to them so that you don't need to clean your inventory nearly as often

Farm also works for other biome types, so if you need biomes keys, use the appropriate block in place of pearlstone.
I also recommend building as much of the farm as you can pre-hardmode, as any interruptions that spawn will be much weaker and less annoying than their hardmode variants.
And to change biomes you can just Clentaminate the stone to whatever biome you need, great point!

I got the rod after about 45 minutes in. Although i have to say i used another farm setup before, and already spend like 6 hours in that one.
IMPORTANT - To point out, is that i ended up in a endless loop like some others already mentioned. I kept teleporting back and forth to the despawn chamber.
It took me reading trough most of the replies to realise that the pressure plate in the despawn chamber, is the " crafted version" the Weighted Pressure Plate. Crafted with a regular one, 2 iron bars and some wire. At the tinkerers station.
All in all still working and a great farm to build, alone already for fun's sake of seeing it work for yourself.

on another note, in the despawn station you don't need the bast statue as nothing should damage you there, nor the honey, as you would still have 30 seconds of the buff left when you teleport there.
Now, you can make a build on the left side of your farm teleporter, like the Maw of some beast, or the entrance of an ominous temple.
Also, can you place walls (outside your afk/spawning zone ofc) to spruce up the farm?

Haha yeah, they're pretty rare. Unfortunately there's a reason for that. They don't perform all too well with the algorithm, as not nearly as many people watch tutorials. And I have to keep the AI overlord happy, so I can't do them often. I try to sprinkle them in occasionally though.
I'm only here because I needed something to watch while organizing my chests, but just a little help for those who are here for the afk farm.
So to debunk the belief that adding extra layers will increase spawn rates, they simply don't. However many enemies spawn is only affected by Sunflowers, Invisibility Potions, Fairies, Water/Peace Candles and Battle/Calming Potions. Only Water Candles and Battle Potions increase enemy spawn rates. All that adding layers really does is give enemies different places to spawn. The only reason I can come upon as to adding extra layers is basically what Khaios said in the video about getting different types of enemies to spawn.

You don't need a hallowed biome for the chaos elementals to spawn, just the pearlstone spawn platforms. That way no hallowed mimics will spawn at all.

I got my 1st Rod of Discord thanks to your guide, this AFK farm worked perfectly even it's Jan 2022 now.
Just a small QoL improvement, instead of abusing your keyboard "space bar", you may consider using gaming mouse with some built in macro like Logitech one, 1 button toggle on-n-off will make your farming journey way easier.
Nice tip for making the farm area is to use dungeon bricks for the outlier and then use dynamite without having to blow up any other blocks.

If you don’t want for hallow mimics to teleport with you and don’t want to place the four blocks inside the chamber, you can use a pressure plate that only activates when a player goes on it. Also playing on Japanese version

Pro tip, if you're clearing out the area with a celebration mk 2, it can be easy to destroy your player area!! Surround your player area with a hard mdoe ore such as cobalt or adamantite and it should become immune to the rockets! EVen if you lose the blocks you placed there, the ore outline will still remain, alloiwng you to remmebr where the spot actually was!
This doesn't work, it either teleports you back and forth, or it doesn't tp you at all.
Excellent video - I never tried the frog legs for this but it works way better. Also I add flame and spikey ball traps to speed up the killing.

I had to make this farm three times, first after I finished didn't work because of biome, second after I finished my world got corrupted and had to rebuild my whole house again (NEVER HIT THE SAVE WORLD TO CLOUD BUTTON).
Looks like they changed the way block collision works in 1.4.4. The four extra blocks that you place in the AFK box to keep biome mimics from landing will keep you from being able to stand in the box. You’ll be inside the floor when you try to teleport in.
DUDE THAN YOU! This is 100% a 11/10 farm and even after getting RODs its a really good money farm if you just sit there without the auto jump. Again, 11/10 farm.
if you hold a water candle in your hand, it stacks with the already placed water candle, increasing spawn rates even more, if I remember correctly.
So I tried this after the 1.4.4 update, and the first time I tried it, it worked perfectly. *chefs kiss*. But then I got a new phone and had to rebuild it, and annoyingly, whether I was stepping or getting knocked onto the pressure plate or not, it would teleport me to despawn every five seconds. So I have to give my advice: use a PINK weighted pressure plate. It'll stop it going off and on over and over. Other than that, love this video, you are awesome, hopefully I'll get a RoD before too long.

Great video! Not sure if others have mentioned, but if you put a row of obsidian down before you pour your lava in, it will keep your loot drops from being destroyed. Helps if you accidently put a little too much lava in your trap or just in general. Also, a tip I saw from @happydays, if you fill in the background underneath your afk farm with player made walls, it should keep enemy spawns from spawning bellow you.

Where did Khaios go?
I had an idea about what to do about the Enchanted Swords: Make a vertical dart trap battery to the left and right of the volcano, where you placed the bulk of the Pearlstone. Enchanted Swords stop attacking when they get hit, so you can stunlock them and prevent them from ever hitting you. Unfortunately you can't prevent the Biome Mimics from hitting you, and neither can you prevent the Rune Wizard...

I just made this farm for myself and it works perfectly! but there's one small issue, whenever the teleporter gets activated it triggers the timer so that I teleport every 5 seconds, rather than just 5 seconds after I go the the despawn area, I tried moving the pressure plate up one with a platform bur that doesn't seem to fix it. Any ideas on what to do anyone?
Use a weighted pressure plate?

I think i spotted a problem with the farm : If minions kills enemies high in the air (like bats or enchanted swords), and those drops souls of light, the player won't be able to pick them.
It'll slowly fill the item pool, because they don't despawn while teleporting away.
It is really a small issue, i don't think it has a great influence in term of loots (cuz you dropped a LOT of rods of discord), and i don't see how to fix it.
But anyway, great job man, it'll sure help me in my runs ^^
I recommend do this in the 10th Terraria seed cause in that world every chaos elemental has the 1% rate to drop it

On the matter of continously moving in order to spawn elementals; you can also build a small piece of rail with bumbers on each end, needs to be 3 tiles wide minimum. Sitting in a cart keeps momentum infinitely. I solved the issue with mimics by placing multiple teleporters on their way to my spot; they end up flying at me in an endless loop, getting put back to square one until my spears have finished them off. I left it on during a night's sleep IRL, it was still going, so it's foolproof without needed an autoclicker or such. Needs e decent amount of spear traps though.
