In the 90s I had a little Daihatsu hatchback charade. She had the little three cylinder in her. And she was no pooch through first and second. Now after 60 she slowed down. But I drove all over Arkansas doing 80 and 90 miles an hour in her, while getting 50 mi to the gallon. I can't help but wonder how interchangeable that motor and gearbox would be with that truck so that it could be a daily driver in modern day traffic. If I knew that it was, I'd have to buy me one of those and swap them out.
Midget 2 is actually 31bhp & does 0-60 In 39 seconds lol. We don't have restrictions in the UK & I know of 1 that's genuinely been a clown car since at least the last 20 years maybe more I've seen it with a red nose were the spare goes.
Such a cool little kei truck. I had to look it up and now I'm waiting for my midget 2 to arrive from Japan! It doesn't have ac though. I plan to buy an ac box for the midget and install one. Do you have any advice or videos on how the ac system works in the midget 2? Any advice about tackling such a task?
Haha right on 🤙🏻🤙🏻 this one is by far my favorite of the bunch right now. Such a fun little truck. Plus any little mod just makes it look even cooler lol. My a/c actually quit working but I think I disconnected a vacuum line that tells it the engine is running and to turn on so at the moment mine needs to be fixed. Up here I don’t use ac often so it’s not a huge concern but would be nice to have. Not really sure how it installed but it doesn’t look easy. Since it’s in the floor board, you probably have to cut some flooring out to route the lines and such. I’ll have to get under the car and take a look at what’s going on and report back
24:53 time mark _ stick shift diagram. Your transmission is a 5-speed? That's insane, a HiJet motor and a 5-speed transmission! (HiJet engine's rated at 42HP, the Midget puts out 31HP. The Midget doesn't come with a 5-speed, just a 4-speed.)
20:43 time mark _ comment about "I'm used to Sambars and I know what the carb solenoid looks like on a Sambar." In a nutshell, that comment boils down the tremendous difference in knowledge base between the Sambar and the Midget. There are hundreds of online resources to help troubleshoot problems and to find parts for the Subaru Sambar. And if you can't find what you're looking for, there are dozens of forums that you can ask questions with experienced members ready and willing to tackle the most difficult of questions. For the Midget, the resources are far less frequent and much less comprehensive. There is a living and breathing Sambar community, not so for the Midget. (My comments are with regard to what's available in Anglicized form, I'm not familiar with resources written in Kanji.)
Oh definitely. It may be tough getting in and out, but once inside the midget, it’s very spacious. Seems like more leg room than my sambar or Acty. Looks are deceiving with this one!
That was hilarious when u said obviously ‘here’s your brake fluid’. Great video 4:38
LOL

@@OhKeiGarage been driving mine for a bit now, never encountered drum brakes befor. do you have any idea how to remove them or are mine rusted shut
Gran Turismo 4 - Midget II Race is where you'd get this little gem. I'd love to see the 'van' version of this some day, too.

@Oh Kei Garage and I'll report my findings too....when I get the midget. Waiting for it to get here.
Which import company did you use?
Any updates on this? I know this is a year ago but I’m planning to install an AC unit too

ya the midget and Daihatsu community is smaller so it's a lot of trial and error or hoping someone has an answer that's helpful!
Can it fit someone who is 6'5?
