So on the rods and cones ramble: They're not cells, they're specialized photoreceptors directly connected to the bipolar nerve cells in the eye. Cones aren't exactly exclusively in the center and same with rods in the periphery, but cones do have low distributions around the retina the further from the fovea (basically center of the eye) they get and a very high distributions in the fovea. Inversely, rods have high distribution around the retina and a very sharp decrease in the center. Rods don't specialize in peripheral vision, theybasically specialize in picking up the intensity/brightness of light, and it's true that they can't detect color, that's the cone's job. But yeah, because of this, it's entirely true that in our far far periphery we can't identify color! So if there's an object hanging out there that we've seen before, our brain fills in the color for us so you don't notice it unless you intentionally pay attention. Didn't mean for this to come off as an "uuhm acktchually," sorry if that's how it sounds, human anatomy & physiology is my area of study and talking about it just gets me excited. Great video all around!
I appreciate your clarification! I was thinking of an activity I did in psychology class in 8th grade when writing the script-the crayon activity actually-and I should’ve known that I was bound to mess the explanation up somehow. Thank you for helping us out! And don’t worry about correcting me at all. I learned something new and so did my listeners. I’m so glad to read that you’re passionate about your studies. You’re going to be very successful in your field!
Fun fact about our vision: When we walk in the dark (e.g. a forest at night), it's better to watch slightly next to where you're going because of the cones/rods arrangement 🤓. Since the rods specialise in detecting "contrast" (using this term loosely here), we'll pick up more details of our surroundings than by looking straight ahead. Walking in complete darkness makes this irrelevant. Photoreceptors only work if there's at least a tiny bit of light. Random facts about light: "Photo" comes from the Ancient Greek "photos" which means "light" (as in "a shining light"). Staring longer at something won't improve the image we see much since our brains "update" the "frame" we see many times per second unlike cameras which can take in more light per "frame" at the cost of a much lower "frame rate". (I know this is a big oversimplification, but it's that or a wall of text that'll take days to read and understand 😅.) For example, the famous image "Hubble's Deep Field" took over a week of staring at the same tiny patch of sky to complete. The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) did his in ~12h iirc (JWST's Deep Field). I strongly recommend at least having a look at JWST's. You can see over 3000 galaxies in it, including a couple Einstein rings (galaxies deformed into a "ring" by another galaxy between it and us) 🤩🤓. Another fun fact about rods and cones: It's the reason bulls react so much to the red cloths in corridas. Unlike humans who have 3 types of cones (red, green, and blue), bulls only have 2 types (I forgot which two specifically). They have way more rods than us though, meaning that they're much more sensitive to movements than actual colors. That's why somebody staying immobile (with or without a red cloth) is much less likely to be rushed than somebody moving and agitating the cloth. Gloomier fact about bulls and corridas: We've always been told that bulls rush red because it makes them angry or something, but the real reason it's red is because it's harder to distinguish the bloodstains on it. The color of the cloth doesn't matter than much. P.S.: OP's field of study and passion is human anatomy and physiology, mine is astrophysics which is why I kinda went on a tangent in the middle of my comment 😅. The rest still interests me thought which is why I know so much about so many random things 😝😅. Edit: Damn, I didn't realize I'd written that much, woops 😛.
Seems we meet again! *removes hat and coat* SOLAR…. Hi ✋😃 Director: CUT! CUT!!! Oh damnit dude, you ruined it! You are not supposed to say “hi” have you read the Goddamn script!?? Me: sorry…
Absolutley loved this!!!! That "I'l stay awake" then immedeitly hearing snoring was great!! So cute and adorable!!!! Your good at putting us too sleep and keeping us awake!!!! I'd be like her honestly, one little micro sleep and I'm wide awake again!!! Plus, I'm a night owl who has trouble falling asleep. For multiple reasons, like if I'm anxious. But most of the time it's nightmares. Hate those. Anyway, those hairplay moments were great!! Super relaxing!! AMAZING performance as always!!!! A really cute vid, I need a gf like this!! Thank you for another MASTERPIECE!!!!!!
Thank you Sam! I was worried that the snoring would be too much, but I’m relieved that you thought it was cute! I hope my sleep aids have helped you with your insomnia; though I know it’s more complicated than that. I’m sorry to read about your anxiety and nightmares. I’m still searching for a promising natural treatment for anxiety myself, but I have found that eating before sleeping can cause nightmares? Are you a midnight snacker? (I am.) And I’m glad that you enjoyed the hair play! The head scratching and hair play are my favorite parts. Are there any other ASMR triggers that you enjoy? Thank you for listening!
@@MoonBerryAudio your sleep aids have helped me, so thank you for those!! Even if I don't fall completely asleep they really help me calm down and relax!! I am a bit of a midnight snacker, so that may be the cause sometimes. As for ASMR triggers, tapping is always nice, also the way you did it in the roomate vid, with the spider? That was really relaxing too. Whispers are sometimes good triggers too!! I'm not really sure what about any other triggers though. I can't think of anymore off the top of my head. Sorry.
So I came here after asking my community their favorite VAs/ASMRtists, and I honestly really love your voice. It’s very soothing and soft and warm, just really perfect for ASMR. The effort you put into the videos as well, sound effects, delivery, and writing are really well done, and yeah. That’s it. Love it 💙
Hi Mayari Rose! I’m so sorry for the late response, sometimes I miss comments in my notifications. Thank you for checking out my work, and I’m honored that you approve! I love seeing fellow VAs here, and I’ll be sure to check out your audios sometime too. It’s been awhile since you posted, but I’ll subscribe so that I don’t miss your next audio :>

I loved this audio, just an idea but could we have an audio where GF or friend gives the viewer a haircut? And have all the triggers surrounding that, like water bottle spray, hair cutting, brushing etc. Would love that but if not you're awesome either way, Thank you.

If I remember correctly both rods and cones can see color it is just rods are very bad differentiating colors
not quite, rods don't pick up color, they basically pick up the brightness of light. You may be thinking of them having poor spatial acuity.
