Driving home from a club late on a Saturday morning through a heavy fog. Listening to this song made me feel like I was in a dream. Very beautiful and haunting song.
I'll never forget the first time I heard this song. I was driving from LaPlace to New Orleans, it was late at night, and there was a full moon gleaming through the mist. It was like driving in a dream. Anyone that's driven through Louisiana bayou country late a night knows what I'm talking about. This is a haunting, eerie, beautiful song.
I too had a similar experience: Driving from I-10 going north toward a little town called Oakdale, LA. It was about 1:30 a.m.. It was a strange spookie feeling, the fog was patchy but heavy in places and a full moon glowed dimly in the sky overhead. It was black dark and weird. I agree jazzman210 it was huanting. That was in the early 90s.
Cajun moon, where does your power lie As you move across the southern sky You took my babe way too soon What have you done, Cajun moon Someday babe, when you want your man And you find him gone, just like the wind Don't trouble your mind whatever you do 'Cause Cajun moon took him from you When daylight fades, the night comes on You can hear the silence of this song Don't trouble your mind whatever you do 'Cause he got me like he got you
when my daughters were little we fled Louisiana and their dad came and beat me then stole them back to Louisiana. ... i listened to this song constantly. then i got mad and got my daughters. they are grown now and i love this song it gave me power
I'm sitting here in NewOrleans listening to this song ,and reading your post thinking of ideas for a story ,you can never runaway from a Cajun Moon.🗒🖍🖌🖊🖋✒✏🗂💬👓✌
This song used to scare me when I was a kid. I was too young to know what it was talking about, but I could tell something was very sad about this song.
The remixed version is what I usually heard on the radio. I still like it, but this is wonderful. Love the vibraphone. The remix is... I guess I'd call it spookier. More sinister.
@rockwinkle51 I am too, I like the groove more on Mann's version, & Cissy's vocals too, that has been the version I've known for many years. But Randy does a good job too, it's just a little smoother, & she smolders on this, so it's nice, I like hearing artists doing their own take on tunes... I also dug David Fathead Newman's sax solo on Herbie's version...
@StevenCharlesJazz I'm very partial to the Herbie Mann rendition. Cissy flat tears it up. This is the first time I've heard of Randy. Like this a lot too, but it's.......tamer, for lack of a better word.
Thanks for the upload & I get the "original" v mix. I first heard Maria Muldaur's version & it's the one I like best. I love Randy Crawford but this one is a little too "orchestral". IMO woulda been better with Joe Sample and a few others.
This is a great tune, and Randy does it up right, but this is not the "original" by far.... It was originally written & recorded by JJ Cale, then done a long time ago by HERBIE MANN, on flute, featuring Whitney Houston's mom, Cissy, on the lead vocals. Then I think Randy did an earlier version than this on one of her own albums... They're all good, and that Herbie Mann one is definitely well worth checking out!
16 when I fell for this song I'm 46 now it had a different meaning at 16 and different at 46, i wouldn't have thought it was a cover.

This woman is a true vocalist! I've been a fan since I was little.
Thanks for this!

Great remake. Randy Crawford's as smooth as it gets baby.
Elle est extra 👍👍👍et une voix digne des plus grandes chanteuses 😊

Damn, we age--- but she is the s@#$
I prefer J.J Cale´s version, the original one. You should give it a listen.
bobketer JJ Cale's version doesn't have the soul and vibe like this version does.
Naked And True
Gostaria que minha Mãe de Leite (65 anos back ) fosse bonita tanto quanto Randy
