Doing a search for Rick West's mix containing the Freestylers "Don't Stop" brought me to this upload. I can tell you, that I never heard of Florida Breakbeat until sometime in 1995 or 1996 when I was in the Army and some chick in the Army from Florida handed me a cassette of Rick Wests Flavor 8. I was hooked!! And ever since I been intrigued by his impeccable mixing capabilities. Some years back before Rick passed away, I reached out to Rick himself and praised his work. since all of his Flavored Beats were on cassettes and discontinued, he send me every FLAC file he had so I could burn my own CDs. I was so impressed that an Artist would do such a thing. I promised Rick that if I ever made my way out to Tampa (since I have family in Florida and I lived in Arizona at that time), I would hunt him down at one of the clubs he would be playing at. Unfortunately, time passed by. I was in a high OPTEMPO unit and couldn't slip out. And then when I came home to Florida in 2014, I heard that Rick had passed away. Very sad. My sincerest condolences to all his friends and family. Rick is a legend and while I never had the opportunity to grow up in Florida or meet Rick himself, Rick's legacy and his creative music continues to live in me long since 1996. Thanks for the upload.

Moved to Tampa around '95. Flavored Beats 4 was my introduction to Florida Breaks and I've never been the same since. I was listening to stuff like Keoki and Plastikman, good stuff no doubt, but didn't hold a candle to RW's flavor. Hooked from the start and never strayed from the blessed Florida sound ever since. PLUR to all!
When I moved back to Miami in 1997. I got bored of listening to Club and House music. I discovered Chemical Brothers, Crystal Method, Fatboy Slim. Then I picked up a copy of Urb Magazine at Barnes & Noble. That was my introduction and education into Florida Breaks. Rabbit In The Moon, DJ Icey, etc. As much as I liked those artists. FL Breaks blew my mind! What shocked me was. I lived four hours away. But didn't hear anything locally on the radio. When I went to Specs or Camelot. They didn't have any CDs. Had to special order them and they were expensive. But definitely worth it.

I used to go down to Waters Ave when I was a kid. I'm now 38 and still rocking Flavored Beats. It's ingrained in my soul.
