We stayed close to Clover Pass Resort, the charter’s lodge was located 4 minutes from the resort. The charter was “Alaska Wilderness Charters and Guiding”.

That halibut catch was illegal being snagged.
I attempted to move my fishing services to Ketchikan in 2013 and 2014 but the salmon fishing was so wrecked by commercial fishing I won't tell lies to clients to get their money then see them leave with no fish, so I moved back to South Central Alaska then continued my guided work .
If not having the sports fishing guide or charter permit to fish Halibut all can be fished for is salmon or bottom fish.
For total worst I have ever experienced and even worst then fishing in Oregon Ketchikan AK turned out to be just bad.
Having a vehicle to explore Ketchikan was supper fun with so many roads and some lakes just fill of trout and very aggressive Trout, but the bears are everywhere so hiking you must carry a rifle not a handgun not a shotgun have a rifle.
Most you will see are the black bears so a rifle from a 35 Remington to AR 10 308 or in 358 Win would work.

Article 13 subsection 4 says if you can snag a halibut with a circle hook, you are a badass and can keep anything you want.
