I don’t know, I think the affinity with the Eon still counts. My Yojimbo wouldn’t even spit on the ground for 1 gil. Chance are the second time I give him 1 gil he performs Zanmato on me.
There is a complex math formula for getting your chances high for zanmato. I have 100% rate with mine so far. Every time I've summoned him he's done zanmato as his first and only attack. The stat nerds will say there are like 6 different figures as to what will raise the chances of zanmato. Basically. Pay him at least 1/5 of what you have in the bank and never let him die. He's never seen less than 100k from me.

Second try to make him always use Wakizashi or Kosuka the first one rise affinity by 4 and kosuka by 3. Daigoro decrese these numbers by 4 and Zanmato rise it by 10! So there you have it!

Thats because monsters fiends are super duper strong in the Areana, i do not recomend fighting any monsters in the Areana untill you are close to maxing out every ones stats or you will loose every time
@Ben Baxter once they're maxed out with their super weapons every attack including magic will do 99999 damage to most enemies. As a result speed wise (for you) it ends up being more efficient just to mash attack
I personally prefer Odin. Guaranteed insta-kill to non-bosses with Zantetsuken, and in 8 after Seifer kills Odin, Gilgamesh replaces him and can even show up in boss fights and potentially one-shot them with Zantetsuken. To me, Yojimbo is just a money-hungry Odin knockoff. :P Don't get me wrong, I like Yojimbo, I just would much rather have had Odin instead.
reaper leviathan I couldn’t get anima because dumb oh me guess what I forgot the first secret at the very first temple 🤦🏻♂️. However I built up a lot of money and threw it all to kill sin. After that I got yojimbo and with him I killed the dark aeon to get back to first temple to get anima
@@TriableChain552 So why didn't you go back to the 1st Temple in Besaid and do the Cloister of Trials again?? You was able to for most parts of the game. There was no "Points of No Return" not until real late in the game.

Dude, I remember one time in Final Fantasy XII, when I was at the Pharos, and there is a part in that dungeon where you have to choose to abandon temporarily one among the following capacities: - Attacking; - Casting Magic; - Using Techniques; - Using Items; or - Using the map. Then I though "Well, my standard tactic relies on buffing everyone and curing everyone with magic, then replenishing MP using Charge [a Technique], and appealing to items when everything goes wrong.". Also, I get totally lost without the map, so I ended up sacrificing Attack. Then there was a boss fight, a humanoid tiger thing, and it was very overpowered. I reached it with basically no MP, since I had been defeating every enemy on the way using Black Magic, so I kept having to use Charge all the time with everyone, because I had no Ethers or Elixirs. The party was constantly dying, and everything was bad, and the thing was immune to most Techniques (including, I think, 1000 Needles) and to all status effects, so I thought "Damn, I can't just Attack it, because I'm stupid and just gave it up like it was nothing.". The only way I found to kill it was using Gil Toss. I constantly tossed 9999 Gil at the thing, until it died when more than half of my economy had already gone away. It was so fucking absurd I just laughed and brushed it off. Then later I found something really worth buying and really expensive, then I got sad.

Thanks man I did it actually. Before I recruited Yojimbo I pay him 9M Gil instead of 250K. Now I use your strategy 1, 1, 2 & 21000 gil. It works. Everytime Yuna summon just pay Yojimbo 21k gil and he does Zanmato all the time. Sometimes it's free Zanmato at the start of battle.
Actually, she is the strongest physic char when max. Iirc, her ultimate hidden bonus is bonus dam when high mp( tidus is high hp, aaron is low hp blah blah). And in this game, we can teach every skill to anyone we want. But iirc again, when max stat, everyone quick hit with limit break always deal 99999. So hidden bonus only show when you are not max( onthe farming way!)
In the PS2 version I gave him so much Gil and he never used it once. In the HD remake he spammed the shit out of it. To the point where I didn't want him using it anymore.
Yep. The original ps2 version for the American version had a much lower odds of him doing his Zanmato. It was only until the international version was introduced that they raised the odds of him performing it. Unsure if the remake goes off of the international formula or the original Japanese version which also had a higher chance of performing the attack.
Everytime from start screen, to make him do automatic wakizashi. If your Yojimbo does not do it, you need to fight couple random fights to just make him happy (paying him but not too much) like 1k per fight.
josibom I had an trophy issue myself that's why I came up with this but yeah if you don't wanna do it the hard way the best way and time you should need to use this is for late game for beating the Dark aeons / nemesis / penance.

My strategy was to use him frequently and give him little amounts of money like 1000 Gil EVERY Time. And when I wanted him to do Zanmatou I gave him 10000. He did it everytime. I guess because it was more than his usual payment
It's more complicated than that, it depend from how many you gave him the first time you summon, how many you gave him each time, if you let him die or recall.
Just my experience, loaded a game, went into battle in calm lands, summoned Yo Jimbo and he automatically did Wakizashi. Went into another battle, summoned him again, dismissed him. Went into Penance battle, grand summoned him, paid 111,111 and he did Zanmato. His first move on your load will determine how and when he'll use Zanmato.
I know this is a super old vid and comment, but I'm replaying the game and needed to zanmoto dark bahamut because I, like an idiot, forgot to grab the crest for Titus celestial weapon. I found this video, and could not get it to work like he said in the video at any point. I checked the comments to see if it was just me, and I'm glad I did, because this strat you gave worked perfectly!
How does that save thing work, do you have to keep loading up till he does it, or can you do it like this at any point he does it automatically then do it, or do you have to do it from a save? Not really understanding the depends on the load thing
I remember that it was all dependant by his affinity with you and a math calculation. At the end I ended up having him doing zamnato on summon 100% of the time. I'm talking about ps2 version. I did it everytime on every playthrough, worked same way. I stopped paying a single gil to him basically.
Honestly....The secret of Yojimbo to use Zanmato is trust. The easiest way to "tame" /him wasn't money. It's TRUST. Use him more and more often with small ammount of gills... and then eventually just give random money, like 1 or 2 gils and he'll do his best movement more often aka Zanmato for you :)
I've got him to a pretty high level of trust, and on enemies about zanmato level 2 he does it most of the time. Though I doubt I could get him to do it to sin :(. I am one of those people that ised the like 5 page long yojimbo equation breakdown page. And while I can't control the random number generated, everything else is pretty easy.
paul bradley years ago i thought the same thing but it's not because one time when i was playing on ps2 ffx i used yojimbo i paid him well and he did daigoro 🙁 this attack is the weakest and i was wondering why he did this and i red you must use him often to do zanmato eventually....i see it now on ps4 version i use him often and he did in a battle of common monsters i paid him he used wakizashi and when my turn came by himself used zanmato
If he uses daigoro load the game (decreases trust) Use him often and pay usually 50 percent more Gil than you have, Don't let him die in battle After all that then 90% zanmato. Took this straight from the prima guide for the PS2 version
When I wanted that Yojimbo do Zanmato, I always payed him 99999 Gil. Every Battle who I did this he done Zanmato. I thought that couldnt work every time, but I he did it every time. In the end fight against Jekt I did it also and I got him in 2 mins :D. Maybe I had much of luck xD or only enought money xD
Years ago... I remember being lucky at the penance with Yojimbo getting a smooth Zanmato at first try.. Days later my mum had accidentally overwritten my savefile and I had to start over from scratch :(
@@deathstar6998 the battle is extremly easy when you use trio of 9999 and dont let his arms attack, get some extra defence from armor so he doesnt kill you with his only 2 attacks that are not even powerful, you must have auto-potion on 3 of characters you want to use( i suggest rikku, wakka and tidus or lulu), you will win the battle in no time, i discovered this when i was 9 so you know that it is easy
Happened to see this video while scouting TH-cam, I read a trick once on a forum when I was 14 years old when the game first came out. This is the only trick that works 75% of the time, It still works in the remake. After 16 years I will post this here for people having trouble. Get Yojimbo in overdrive and pay him 1111 Gil or 1113 Gil, 75% of the time, he will use Zanmato. This is not a cheat but merely a glitch in the code or something. This is the only way that works besides paying him millions of gil... . Good luck everyone.
Stalker Stomper3 Well I was actually very surprised, because I went to the Dark Magus Sisters fight and summoned Yojimbo with Yuna‘s Overdrive. Then after paying him 1.111 Gil he used Zanmatou first try. So I guess it works but I can’t say for sure because I didn’t tested anymore.
D4 RiderDeath I dunno, I just maximize his Happiness and pay him a crapload of money, like 100,000s of Gil. I mean, you can do research and find your money making methods to get 10,000,000s of Gil. If I don’t get Zanmato the first time, I’d just reload a save. Doing the math, personally, after three attempts, Zanmato is a 99% chance so… yeah!
@@Matthew_Klepadlo there is such a thing as compatibility with Yojimbo (it has 3 levels) i think it depends on the skill of your bidding with him (about price you pay ) when the game took place once again, it is 1 time in 3 fights right after the call he makes Zanmato (free and instantly)

Choosing option 3, haggling him, paying triple the amount so you get two white spheres… Trust me! Imma “expert” on FFX. You can *totally* trust my words as FACT! BTW Yojimbo compatibility is ranged from 0 to 256. I think what you mean is… There are three OPTIONS you can answer to for Yojimbo’s question.
I use him lots of times and not letting him die in any fight and pay like 1k~9999, then after a while he does Zanmato very often, so often that I even slayed ALL Dark Yojimbos by using Yojimbo w/ crazy Zanmatos
It's funny to see the comments here. This method is not fool proof and the disparity in how often zanmatou is used by Yojimbo as told to us by various commenters should be indication enough. There is a rather annoying mathematical equation behind his use of the zanmatou, which boils down to various (in game invisible) stats, such as the so called Zanmatou Level of each enemy and various motivation levels, based on Gil paid and relation/compatibility between summoner and eon for example. Look up the zanmatou explained by dansg08, but long, but explained in good detail.
While Yojimbo is walking, it sounds like Goofy trips over a sitar twice in the background. He might even be drunk. Listen for it. There's a unique sound that happens twice as he's walking onto the battlefield, that's the one: Goofy tripping over a sitar. He says "oof!" each time he does it too.
I experimented since I started playing again after years. Paid 250001 to get him which is 1 gil more than his asking price. Them pay him 25000 per use. He uses zanmato more than anytime I've ever used him in the past. It's crazy. I've nerfed dark aeons lol
Except for people in the US, since here we didn't get the stuff in the "International" version, we didn't get the optional Dark Aeons and Penance bosses, or the alternate Sphere Grid.
I seriously just got Yojimbo to perform Zanmato for the first time ever lol oddly enough I did not use this video's guide.......I basically paid Yojimbo 10,000 gil 3 times in a row he used Wakizashi 3 times then on the 4th try he performed Zanmato.......was that just dumb luck? or did I stumble upon something ? lol
so basically it depends if he does the wakizashi first, but does he have to do 3 attacks after paying him each time in one battle before doing the guaranteed zanmato on the next one? or can it be done on multiple battles with weak enemies as well?

well i guess its time to grind again then.. only managed to zanmato dark yojimbo in the first 2 battles, then tried the fiend battles reappearing trick in the cave to repeat the preparation process in the hope that i can repeat zanmato's use in the next few dark yojimbos. I didn't play for maxing out my team. went to get Anime but ow damn forgot almost all the destruction spheres. Round 1: wtf is this Dark Shiva?? kicking my ass with 1.2million HP??? even Yuna only manage to 25k damage not to mention the rest. Round 2: first strike sword - screw Shiva's agility. swap to Yuna, swap to Yojimbo. pay 10,000gil and the dude delivers!! bye dark shiva... shortest fight ever. too bad I couldn't steal without risking my entire team.
For 100% success rate, have Yuna’s overdrive ready before you summon him, I drop 10k and one hit kills every one, did it to Seymour but I couldn’t do it to Sin
I must've gotten lucky then? I don't have maxed out stats, just 4 toons have filled everything on the board that's already there, no additional spheres. I summoned Yojimbo on both attempts so far, neither one did he auto use Wakizashi. 1st try, I paid him 1 gil, he used Wakizashi, paid another 1 gil, Wakizashi, paid 1, Kozuka, paid 2, Kozuka, dismissed and fled battle. Summoned on the next enemy and paid 21000 gil and he did Zanmato. 2nd try, I paid 1 gil, refused and sent the dog. Then paid 1, 1, and 2 and he did all the moves he is "supposed" to, dismissed and fled battle. Summoned on next enemy and paid 21000 and he again did Zanmato. So I think the 1st Wakizashi is irrelevant to the process. Just need 1, and the 2 Kozuka and you should be good
So... Last time I played this game (many years ago...) I couldn't defeat Seymour no matter what I do because I suck at Final Fantasy games... Eventually I decided...I'm going to start a new game since my mom bought it for me for my switch on Christmas and then I'll just... Get absolutely rich, try and somehow get Yojimbo through dumb luck, and then just try and get the one shot. I'm well aware that this probably won't even work because I likely won't even be able to summon the damn guy but I can dream.
I call shenanigans. I tried to get Yojimbo to Zanmato mountain Seymour, reloaded about 10 times, and only twice did he use the instant free Wakizashi. Therefore your claim that he ALWAYS uses a free Wakizashi after loading is a load
How much Gil is needed for Zanmato? The base motivation (BM) according to how much he has been paid. The lowest base motivation is 0 if he is paid 1-3 gil and the highest is 112 if he is paid at least 536,870,912 gil. And that is how you dont waste so many turns using kozuka and stuff
He doesn't do the sword move automatically after a loaded game from my experience. Is it guaranteed that he'll do it automatically or no? I always find giving him 10k increases the chances of him doing his overdrive. From my experience, anyways. He's always done it in 1-5 turns. But against Dark Aeons, 1/5 chances will get you killed.
I deleted the Patch and tried again. This technique does not work, I never get Yojimbo to do Wakisashi at the start of the battle. Still, when he rabdonly start by doing so, you can pay him 1$ and he's gonna Zanmato, that's my experience with this.
M. Diari I managed to do it out desperation he was my last summon, and I managed to grand summon him... he immediately used zanmuto, 4 hours down the drain with one swift move.

Back when i played this on PS2, I was so underleveled when I fought Sin on the airship and almost gave up... thank God for that lucky 1 yen.

this is beating the bosses the easy way, of course there's a price to pay, btw if u farm at omega dun you can get way more than 1k per fight.

My strategy was to use him frequently and give him little amounts of money like 1000 Gil EVERY Time. And when I wanted him to do Zanmatou I gave him 10000. He did it everytime. I guess because it was more than his usual payment
It's more complicated than that, it depend from how many you gave him the first time you summon, how many you gave him each time, if you let him die or recall.
Just my experience, loaded a game, went into battle in calm lands, summoned Yo Jimbo and he automatically did Wakizashi. Went into another battle, summoned him again, dismissed him. Went into Penance battle, grand summoned him, paid 111,111 and he did Zanmato. His first move on your load will determine how and when he'll use Zanmato.

How does that save thing work, do you have to keep loading up till he does it, or can you do it like this at any point he does it automatically then do it, or do you have to do it from a save? Not really understanding the depends on the load thing
I remember that it was all dependant by his affinity with you and a math calculation. At the end I ended up having him doing zamnato on summon 100% of the time. I'm talking about ps2 version. I did it everytime on every playthrough, worked same way. I stopped paying a single gil to him basically.

Honestly....The secret of Yojimbo to use Zanmato is trust. The easiest way to "tame" /him wasn't money. It's TRUST. Use him more and more often with small ammount of gills... and then eventually just give random money, like 1 or 2 gils and he'll do his best movement more often aka Zanmato for you :)

I've got him to a pretty high level of trust, and on enemies about zanmato level 2 he does it most of the time. Though I doubt I could get him to do it to sin :(. I am one of those people that ised the like 5 page long yojimbo equation breakdown page. And while I can't control the random number generated, everything else is pretty easy.

This only works if he’s up against one enemy. He won’t do the second Kozuka.

When I wanted that Yojimbo do Zanmato, I always payed him 99999 Gil. Every Battle who I did this he done Zanmato. I thought that couldnt work every time, but I he did it every time. In the end fight against Jekt I did it also and I got him in 2 mins :D. Maybe I had much of luck xD or only enought money xD

@@deathstar6998 the battle is extremly easy when you use trio of 9999 and dont let his arms attack, get some extra defence from armor so he doesnt kill you with his only 2 attacks that are not even powerful, you must have auto-potion on 3 of characters you want to use( i suggest rikku, wakka and tidus or lulu), you will win the battle in no time, i discovered this when i was 9 so you know that it is easy
Happened to see this video while scouting TH-cam, I read a trick once on a forum when I was 14 years old when the game first came out. This is the only trick that works 75% of the time, It still works in the remake. After 16 years I will post this here for people having trouble.
Get Yojimbo in overdrive and pay him 1111 Gil or 1113 Gil, 75% of the time, he will use Zanmato. This is not a cheat but merely a glitch in the code or something. This is the only way that works besides paying him millions of gil... .

Stalker Stomper3 Well I was actually very surprised, because I went to the Dark Magus Sisters fight and summoned Yojimbo with Yuna‘s Overdrive. Then after paying him 1.111 Gil he used Zanmatou first try. So I guess it works but I can’t say for sure because I didn’t tested anymore.

@@Matthew_Klepadlo there is such a thing as compatibility with Yojimbo (it has 3 levels) i think it depends on the skill of your bidding with him (about price you pay ) when the game took place once again, it is 1 time in 3 fights right after the call he makes Zanmato (free and instantly)

Just tried saving the final move. Didn’t work on Braska’s final aeon but worked on some random mobs so it’s not 100%
I love how Yojimbo works, just a dude whos on the grind, you pay the dude to even work with you like "ill be as good as the pay"
My go to strategy is to never let him die. Until post game then, I just need to pay him 1001 Gil every time and he never did not use Zanmato

I use him lots of times and not letting him die in any fight and pay like 1k~9999, then after a while he does Zanmato very often, so often that I even slayed ALL Dark Yojimbos by using Yojimbo w/ crazy Zanmatos
As far as I know he will do zamato everytime if u give him the half Gil of his hp.
It's funny to see the comments here. This method is not fool proof and the disparity in how often zanmatou is used by Yojimbo as told to us by various commenters should be indication enough.
There is a rather annoying mathematical equation behind his use of the zanmatou, which boils down to various (in game invisible) stats, such as the so called Zanmatou Level of each enemy and various motivation levels, based on Gil paid and relation/compatibility between summoner and eon for example.
Look up the zanmatou explained by dansg08, but long, but explained in good detail.

While Yojimbo is walking, it sounds like Goofy trips over a sitar twice in the background. He might even be drunk. Listen for it. There's a unique sound that happens twice as he's walking onto the battlefield, that's the one: Goofy tripping over a sitar. He says "oof!" each time he does it too.

I experimented since I started playing again after years. Paid 250001 to get him which is 1 gil more than his asking price. Them pay him 25000 per use. He uses zanmato more than anytime I've ever used him in the past. It's crazy. I've nerfed dark aeons lol

I don't have maxed out stats, just 4 toons have filled everything on the board that's already there, no additional spheres.
I summoned Yojimbo on both attempts so far, neither one did he auto use Wakizashi.
1st try, I paid him 1 gil, he used Wakizashi, paid another 1 gil, Wakizashi, paid 1, Kozuka, paid 2, Kozuka, dismissed and fled battle. Summoned on the next enemy and paid 21000 gil and he did Zanmato.
2nd try, I paid 1 gil, refused and sent the dog. Then paid 1, 1, and 2 and he did all the moves he is "supposed" to, dismissed and fled battle. Summoned on next enemy and paid 21000 and he again did Zanmato. So I think the 1st Wakizashi is irrelevant to the process. Just need 1, and the 2 Kozuka and you should be good

The dark aeons are absolutely brutal. I could only do dark Valefor and dark Ifrit without using Zanmato. I gave up and Yojimbo sliced the rest

I call shenanigans. I tried to get Yojimbo to Zanmato mountain Seymour, reloaded about 10 times, and only twice did he use the instant free Wakizashi. Therefore your claim that he ALWAYS uses a free Wakizashi after loading is a load
I played the original American version and rarely ever got to use see a Zanmato. It was a 10% chance of one-shotting at best.
How much Gil is needed for Zanmato?
The base motivation (BM) according to how much he has been paid. The lowest base motivation is 0 if he is paid 1-3 gil and the highest is 112 if he is paid at least 536,870,912 gil. And that is how you dont waste so many turns using kozuka and stuff

He doesn't do the sword move automatically after a loaded game from my experience. Is it guaranteed that he'll do it automatically or no?
I always find giving him 10k increases the chances of him doing his overdrive. From my experience, anyways. He's always done it in 1-5 turns. But against Dark Aeons, 1/5 chances will get you killed.

I deleted the Patch and tried again. This technique does not work, I never get Yojimbo to do Wakisashi at the start of the battle. Still, when he rabdonly start by doing so, you can pay him 1$ and he's gonna Zanmato, that's my experience with this.

M. Diari I managed to do it out desperation he was my last summon, and I managed to grand summon him... he immediately used zanmuto, 4 hours down the drain with one swift move.
