The true story and real supernatural history of Ubersoft's Assassin's Creed series and the Assassin's Creed Mirage.
Medieval and Renaissance periods from roughly the 6th Century to the 17th Century, saw the formation and development of one of the most terrifying secret societies the world would ever know, beginning in the first millennium under the Nizra Ismaili sect, The Order of Assassins, (otherwise known as the Hashashin (الحشَّاشين) or simply the Assassins).

Under the mystical leaderships of Hasan ibn Sabbah, Hassan Ali (Hassan II of Alamut) and Rashid ad-Din Sinan, (The Old Man of the Mountain), we question if several versions of their organization could have survived to the 21st Century.

@@ghoulboards I love Esoterica but I believe Justin Sledge focuses primarily on rabbinic and Jewish occult knowledge. Pre-Islamic occult traditions would be referencing Pagan Arabic culture more than Jewish.

Hassan Al Sabbah is one of the most mysterious and coolest figures in history. Dude was a hash smoking psychedelic fueled middle eastern psychic ninja. Supposedly a/the father of the modern day "Illuminati" as well.

The segment is really amazing. The Assassin Creed Ismailis chose the Castle of Death, and this was the largest and strongest of the castles, and the goal of Sheikh Hassan Al-Sabah was to spread the call to the Ismaili doctrine with the support of the Fatimid state. The base motto is Creed. If you do not have enough army to confront the enemy, hit the enemy behind his back until their number decreases little by little.

I am from Iran, so I would write what I heard from my father about this:
"Assassin" comes from the arabic word "Hashashin", which means: "Consumers of Hashish (a type of drugs)".
Muslims of Nizari branch of Ismaili Shia, in the Castle of "Alamut" (near Qazvin, Iran), were called "Hashashins", because their leader, "Hassan Sabah", had his followers addicted to this drug. This addiction used to make them loyal to him, because they, obviously, wanted to receive more. Moreover, it was probably responsible for decreasing his soldiers' anxiety levels when killing his enemies, thus they performed so well, and earned a worldwide reputation for themselves.
It is believed that "Seljuk Emipre"(Rulers of Iran (Persia) at the time), sent Hassan Sabah many envoys. They were either killed or reported the way to the castle to be impassable and very dangerous (which is true, becuase I went there and the way to the castle is horrendous. The valleys are as deep as I was extremely terrified, and didn't want to continue driving).
My father said that the "jumping from tall buildings in a stylish way", has become the symbol of this game, is because once one of these envoys reaches the castle and Hassan Sabah accepts to meet him. The message from the central government (Seljuks) to Hassan Sabah was of course a threat that he should stop having his own country within their country!
In order to show his power, Hassan sabah then asks some of his soldiers to stand in front of the windows of the castle, and asks them to jump down from the building and die for his cause in front of the envoy. The envoy would then go back to his masters with this terrifying message that Hassan Sabah followers are ready to die for their leader, no matter what!
Though at the end of the day, members of the Creed were killers (and in Iran are known to be the first terrorists). I am glad, in English, the word "Assassin", which has its roots from the Middle East, is more being seen as something like "Ninja", and is not equivalent of Terrorist, just because they were from the Middle East! (Really...Why are Ninja's not being seen as terrorists?!)
As I said I visited the castle, and it is unfortunately destroyed. The remaining parts are also mostly covered by the Iranian government. But, if you ever go there, you can enjoy the amazing scenery of the scary, yet beautiful valley in front of the castle.

It's interesting to see parallels with Frank Herbert's Dune, who clearly included a lot of Arabic cultural inspirations: the Fremen "Fedaykin", the promised saviour "Mahdi", which is also similar to Paul's chosen name "Muad'dib" and so on.

In Frank Herbert's dune the entire premise of the Freeman is kind of based on Islam and the Eastern world. One can also say that the various houses in dune also represent various countries here on Earth. Now that that's out of the way allow me to get to my real point, since the dawn of human written civilization the employment of murder or assassination is perhaps one of the oldest jobs in human history right up there next to thievery. I am a real big assassin's Creed fan which is why I've continued to follow the stories up to this point however, remember there were many other assassination organizations and cults out there that actually predate this one. Still though, it's always nice to learn something new about history that I didn't previously know in college.
