Man alive! I never would have thought this tongue-in-cheek vid would create such controversy. Yikes! I think you did a great job, though! I really hope this doesn't keep you from posting other S&H vids. You have a real talent! Like it or not Hutch fans, the writers decided towards the end of S3 to start threading episodes with a burned-out-Hutch-and-sometimes-taking-it-out-on-Starsky arch. Case in point, his reactions in the car chase in "Partners". Starsky isn't doing anything he doesn't always do in trying to catch a criminal, but all of a sudden Hutch is going spastic. His lying about having amnesia was really cruel (and frankly, I think, out of character). I also think Hutch's actions in "S v H" were out of character. Talk about a callous betrayal! Because PMG wanted out of the show, I think the writers were angling at the time to ultimately break the relationship up and find a way to continue without him (which would never have worked). They damaged the thing that made the show so special - the very close/affectionate relationship between S&H. Not that any relationship is perfect or smooth sailing, but this dynamic was very unlike anything seen in the earlier episodes of the show. There's a direct correlation to when they started writing that way and when the ratings started to decline. So, don't think of this as a jab so much at Hutch, but the writers who botched up a good thing!

xtexan86 We understand your intent; just saying it didn't get conveyed by this particular song. The point this song is making is: pretty face, ugly heart, period. Hutch can be mean, yes, but he has a heart of gold. This song bypassed THAT part.
Starsky Hutch It works both ways. There was no Hutch without Starsky either. Putting aside the very tongue-in-cheek aspect of this vid (which was clearly stated up front), even the most die-hard Hutch fans have to admit that some of the things he was written to have said and done to Starsky in some episodes at the end of S3 and throughout S4 were just plain mean (and as I state in my direct comment on this vid, out of character). That was the writers starting to prepare for PMG's departure. I think the original intent was to sever their relationship and have Hutch continue on with someone else or by himself (which would never have worked). But in changing the dynamic of the relationship between S&H, they ultimately killed the show. Take this as a tongue-in-cheek swipe at the writers rather than Hutch.
I agree with luvthatblueeyedsoul and Starsky Hutch. This has to be the worst song you could have chosen. A true fan knows how big and beautiful Hutch's heart is. Starsky would not be whole without Hutch and vice versa.
Okay, now, I'm the second most stringent canon freak on the block, and I laughed all the way through this! Maybe that little line at the end should have come at the beginning, to remind folks how much they sparred and called each other names. It's how they stayed sane. Constant teasing. So, song lyrics about leaving overlie clips of staying and returning. Accusations of "ugly" overlie clips of happy moments and love. And it's all summed up with "You're really mean!" Which, of course, is only a momentary frustration and a momentary truth. And the whole song struck me as the same thing. "Why do I put up with you? Because you love me." And vice versa.
I love this video hutch had a bit of a mean streak. Starksy would definitely accuse him of having a ugly heart after he plays one of his pranks on starsky. This is light hearted and cute

Loved it!! REST of lyrics fit Hutch , except for the ugly heart... I just think about the times he's being ... as Starsky would say , "You know your mean .. you're really REALLY MEAN" !. LOL.
I ,too, like different sides of their personality displayed and always have said Hutch. had a bit of a dark side.

I took it as irony, and those moments when you're fed up with your friend but you still love them, and it blows over. You found lots of good action-y clips that kept it bouncing! I had never heard this song before but it's peppy! And the music should be a clue, people. Dramatic "you're horrible" songs don't have a bouncy happy feeling to it. I'm sorry you're getting flack.

Meaning, I don't like the song but I really think you warned us enough that the vid is not a serious attempt to show anything but a funny aspect of their lovely relationship. I don't feel like Starsky felt that Hutch had an ugly heart. The reason I love Starsky (besides the obvious) is because he never questioned his relationship with Hutch; neither Hutch had an ugly heart, neither he did anything but to love and cherish Starsky during all four seasons (they took care of themselves reciprocally, didn't they?) ... So don't take this video that seriously, please. Besides I refuse to participate to a campaign to get someone's work out of the net... I think that as spectators or readers we always have the opportunity to avoid watching the video we don't like, to avoid reading the story we don't like... whatever. That is our power! I don't feel comfortable with this thumbs down policy, not my cup of tea. (maybe because I am a vidder or at least I tried to be) and I put lots of work and love in my vids. I can understand that the Hutch's girls (this sounds stupid to me but you know what I mean) feel hurt because the song seemingly attacks Hutch, and trust me this has nothing to do with the fact that I am a Starsky girl, actually. What I really mean is what I am saying. Besides, regardless the fact that the song has silly and poor lyrics the clips are just wonderful so, come on ladies... Live and let die. And trust me I don't wanna start any controversy here, just stating my point of view, I hope that nobody gets angry either...

I think your vid is kind of cute, and I get the joke, but I'd have made it reciprocal. Starsky was no angel, either. What fun would that be? Besides, he's the one with the beauty mark. Either way I don't think you were saying that he had ugly heart. I think you were trying to convey those times when starsky may have felt like it was that way. C'mon ladies 1) This is a TV Show and 2) we know the boys, Starsky would not feel that way for long. Why cuz he loves Hutch. They both probably felt that way at times. That is what happens in friendships, you have ups and you have downs, you hash it out and move on and the true friendships survive it.
Besides think about it this song would not have had the same effect if you did it from Hutch's point of view. Yes starsky is pretty, but Hutch has his own kind of beauty :)

starsky did not change anything over the years but hutch aged twice as much, for the last season it looked like fifty
maybe that's because David Soul was a heavy smoker and drinker during those years. Plus he had a second career as a singer.

Gotta agree with Starsky Hutch on this one. Hutch's heart was far from ugly. Loved the clips you used just a poor song choice in my opinion.
Thanks for the backup, luv. In fact, I've gotten a number of emails behind the scenes asking me what the intent of this video is. If it's a stab at fun, it doesn't come across funny. Seems rather nasty in their opinions, as well as in mine. Not even Starsky, pushed to the limits by Hutch, would agree with this one! C'mon, XTexan, we no likey. It's mean-spirited!
xtexan86 But that's not what your song conveys. We do videos all the time showing their imperfections, their fighting, their getting pissed off at each other, their hurting each other. We CAN entertain that notion and we do. But your video doesn't show Hutch being imperfect (aside from the fact, that being imperfect doesn't mean one has an ugly heart, either). Your song says: He's pretty, but inside he's ugly, and therefore Starsky doesn't want him anymore. Maybe if you had told us why, we'd get it. The video is VERY well done and you've put a lot of work into it, but it just doesn't say what you think it does. In fact, it sends the wrong message. IMO.

Honestly, I'm not really pissed at the ugly heart thing, I'm just slightly mad you didn't use Starsky as the main character cuz of the 'beauty mark' thing.
Wow... coming from people who write or vid slash, or use clips to make up other stories that have nothing to do with Starsky and Hutch - the series, this is a little bizzarre. Hutch had some ugly moments in season four, but I see them as mostly self-directed. The teasing they did with each other was just that. I'm not likely to add this to a playlist, but I've seen and heard much worse in this fandom. MUCH worse. Chill, people!
xtexan86 May I jump in? I know they often slighted each others like brothers would do. I don't think they were joined at the hip at all. I think they each spent time with girlfriends without the other. I envision that they each found a wife and had kids. I think maybe I am in the minority seeing it that way.
