Don has many CDs and DVDs out. If you ever get a chance to see him, DO IT! I make it a point to see him every time he comes to Minneapolis. He's very open to his fans as well. He will talk with you after each show about whatever you want to talk about. I've had the chance to sit and jam with him after one of his shows. The 1st show of his I saw, changed my life and my music styles. He is my guitar "Idol".
Don't worry about it making the charts. Pop music is for the moment. Good music is recorded for all time. People will be listening to Don's music long after he's gone. The same mostly can't be said for today's (or tomorrow's) "hit".
Your music is breath taking. This song is one of your best Don, it waters your eyes with passion, you are truely creative and inspirational. Today's youthful media does a great injustice to such wonderful hidden talent. This is the stuff you should be seeing on the top of our mainstream charts.
This is the type of music you can just come home from work to, sit, relax and drift away into your mind. When the song is over you feel like a new person and just want more!
everytime I fly too high in terms of musical skill, I watch some Candyrat and I am humbly grateful for such passion, dedication and creativity those blessed guys display every day. TL:DR: damn, I'm jealous! :D
I really like this style to play guitar. Flamenco has shown in the past that guitar can be a very percusive instrument, and now this guys, like A. Mckee are showing great sensitivity and awsome harmonies, along with percusive new forms. Love this things!
Don is there any chance to have your talent here in Brazil São Paulo for some shows maybe with Brooke and Andy? Please we need to see the amazing things you can do with a guitar.
Not sure if links will post here so I'll try it this way. Don's official site is called gobyfish. He can also be found through candyrat. Add 3 w's and a com and you're A for away ;)
@ZebMacahan A Very long time. I have never wore them out. They grow with your nail like acrylics. once they start working their way down the nail, I would replace them. Also, I pretty sure these are the same nails, Craig D'Andrea, Antoine Dufour use. I think I seen Andy Mckee with one on his thumb nail too
For me, ppl who criticize things like this diesn't matter cause at the end of the day, they couldn't play like Don Ross even if they practised and tried hard. So, who cares what they think? Attention seekers.
yeah, i heard about that before, didn't michael hedges originally come up with that idea? hmh... any tips on how to go about trying this? what kind of glue to use etc ? (i imagine you'd have to cut them to size an then glue them to your nails, right?)
regarding his "nails" - are those freedompicks? because if so, i'm inclined to order me a package and see if it works for me. i'm growing really tired of always grooming my nails just to be able to play decently and then having them break at the next "best" opportunity :-/
I dont know if anyone noticed, but he missed one note at exactly 3:12 on the video, you can also tell it by his face seconds later. But its ok, even my hero have the right to miss some notes a few times.
does ANYONE know where u can get a correct tab for this song i'm learning but i really want to play something like this and i really want to learn this song can anyone help please
@ZebMacahan Don uses basic fake nails.. The brand is from KISS, and he uses the Active Oval... I have used these and they do work great....You can get them at Wal-Mart I know
Who cares about the mistakes, Don transmits much more emotion than most of technically superior guitar players. If I want perfection in the arrangements I listen to computer music.
sadly not alot of people know him by his name they could just recognize a few of his songs..if you havent checked out Don Ross-Afraid to Dance i would definately recommend it if you liked this :D Don Ross=God of Acoustic Guitar
What I said ? Thisi I answer to naivitasrebel who says that Don's music was boring and without interest . "Hueva" is a bad word in spanish and I love too much Don Ross music for his music to let poor brats talking so bad about great musicians. You even see here that most of people love it, so I just ask a little respect and I answered because that guy must be chilean and I'm chilean too.Got all his CDs and DVD. Don't know if you answer to nativitas or me? Me,I love too much Don!
Yeah, and sometimes that isn't even enough. I saw him in concert and one of his nails flew off on the second song. The people who didn't know he glued on acrylic nails were a little horrified, I think.
or you can just grow out your own nails to a certain point that fits your comfort and put on nail hardener. I do it, I have no problem, the occasional but thats why i cut them once they start getting dangerously long
@SlipKnoTtater Yeah it's not the most common technique but it's certainly not new or revolutionary. A popular example of someone who used his thumb to fret would be Jimi Hendrix.
I can’t believe this has only had 320K views, this is the best thing I have ever heard in my life!

This song has such a sunshiny feel to it.. it's the only way I can describe it.. it makes me feel good.. Love this man's guitar playing !
This is one of the most moving pieces of music, I've ever heard.
This is definitely my favorite Don Ross piece, he is the master!

This is my favorite Don song, surprised it's not more popular..
His pulling-off and hammering-on is impeccable!
This is gorgeous! The flow if it reminds me of a Pierre Bensusan tune! Needless to say, I love it. Good work Don!
Thats so beautiful.
Lovely piece of work.
Lucky you! I'm seeing him on Nov 8th in MPLS. I hope I get to jam with him again. That would rock
i love the fooling around with harmonics. beautiful.
why doesnt this video have millions and millions of views.
this is so powerful in so many ways. its so great.
His use of the harmonic taps just round those riffs off perfectly.
Don is there any chance to have your talent here in Brazil São Paulo for some shows maybe with Brooke and Andy?

@MasterMcG

Not sure if links will post here so I'll try it this way.
Don's official site is called gobyfish. He can also be found through candyrat. Add 3 w's and a com and you're A for away ;)
Great song from a great musician! Perfect
Poxa... este som é tudo que preciso ... um monento de PAZ.
If he had gotten those harmonics at 3:51, I'm sure I would've burned my guitar. This man is brilliant.
Far more than beautiful... That's awesome.
Stunning composition.
Thanks again. Always love to hear you play. :>)
@ZebMacahan

I am humbled. Everything I play, no mater how difficult I think it is, is really simple and always will be.
really just has that christmas feel to it ...wicked picking by the Boss-Ross
Very nice playing and song
For me, ppl who criticize things like this diesn't matter cause at the end of the day, they couldn't play like Don Ross even if they practised and tried hard. So, who cares what they think? Attention seekers.
Awesome harmonics around 1:20. That was really cool.
he makes it look so easy!
I think I'll watch that again.
yeah, i heard about that before, didn't michael hedges originally come up with that idea? hmh... any tips on how to go about trying this? what kind of glue to use etc ? (i imagine you'd have to cut them to size an then glue them to your nails, right?)
ooh yea... if there's one guitar player in the world truly feeling his music, it's don ross

Absolutely beautiful and inspirational! 2:35 gets me everytime
ok...does ross have a cd or dvd...y not both w/ better production....CUZ I WANNA BUY IT!!!!
I dont know if anyone noticed, but he missed one note at exactly 3:12 on the video, you can also tell it by his face seconds later. But its ok, even my hero have the right to miss some notes a few times.

I freakin’ love this tune!
I'm sure its a concert, but its a very very small one. I can almost guarantee he's playing to record these.
@ZebMacahan

It's a master piece!!
Surprisingly? This man is a God! He can have whoever he wants ;)
I would like to see this in HD
beautiful,
Why was this video marked as 'private' for so long?
that is so interesting how he also uses his thumb to hold down the string, you can see it at 2:01 - 2:04

Check the info mate.
"Don Ross Tabs available at gobyfish.comicbooks"
fabuleux de beauté

That is true - either way, it's an amazing song.
@jcisaacs The tuning is
B-A-D-A-S-S
5:16
I thought I was losing it. His right hand vanished for a second XD
amazing! :)
@Goof995 yeah, definitely my favorite don ross tune i've heard (technically not a song cuz there's no words :-P
how is it gimmicky?
In the words of McDonalds's marketing division,"bada,ba,ba,ba I'm lovin' it!"
@SlipKnoTtater Yeah it's not the most common technique but it's certainly not new or revolutionary. A popular example of someone who used his thumb to fret would be Jimi Hendrix.
5:16....... amzing ......!!!!
I agree
its always the shit that's popular but personally, i'd hate it if this awesome music became extremely popular, would just spoil it.
OMG some peoples comments are daft...you can buy picks for fingerpicking that you put over your fingers/thumb
@sum41Rck
yes
its actually very common...i do it.
yeah, i wonder what he uses on his nails.. some sorta plastic?
@asstaxer6286 that must have been uncomfortable for everyone involved
love u hagrid
this is a classical guitar i think, BUT!! he has strung it with steel strings
