Great tribute to Roger Delgado. Remember as a kid, his devious intelligence, his combination of charm and mischief, a certain suaveness and sleek surety - had me spellbound. What an actor - and what a great legacy he left for Doctor Who.
Delgado is my favourite Master, he has such an immense presence and charisma that makes him magnetic to watch and his incarnation so terrifying. One thing I miss about the Master that Delgado had was his seriousness, his coldness, I find that always having the Master be manic and camp to be tiring and has gotten a little boring
What I think was so impressive about Delgado was that he managed to achieve a wonderfully enduring and three dimensional character out of what was essentially a two-note villain- and the two notes being ones that weren't, on paper, really compatible with each other. Delgado manages to take a man who is written as the very antithesis of the Doctor and everything the Doctor- by this point- has come to stand for- and a man who is also written as *still* being one of the Doctor's best - mutual - friends- and to fill in the gaps and make this somehow *work*. He creates in the Master, someone who clearly thinks of themselves as the sauve gentleman villain, and someone who can - and enjoys- playing that role- but equally, someone who very clearly *isn't*. He likes and respects the Doctor- and, rather wonderfully, by the end also comes to like and respect Jo- by "Frontier in Space"- presumably because *she* defeated him in "The Time Monster"- it's clear that Jo has joined his little select list of "worthy opponents" - but still, Roger Delgado makes it clear that much as the Master one minute will be sincerely and genuinely enjoying a playful little chat with one or both of them- but the next minute, the smile can vanish, the voice suddenly drop into that hard, angry tone he suddenly adopts when his patience has run out- and then he'd kill without a moment's hesitation. John Simm and Michelle Gomez both based much of their performance around the Master's insanity- but this Master, the most charming and seemingly controlled of them all, is quite possibly the most chillingly insane of them all- because unlike them, he doesn't *realise* it. This is a Master who sees no contradiction in his nature, who is quite able with sociopathic ease to take genuine, unfeigned pleasure in social chit-chat with his 'friends', without it in any way affecting his willingness to murder them in cold blood. Yet, at the same time, the same charisma he displays makes him enormously fun to watch, and his sardonic wit invariably gets the audience on his side.
He was the best Master by far. He is such a great actor. He effortlessly oozes class and charm but can go from being charming to being a cold blooded killer in an instant.
Mate...Love your videos. Your tribute to Roger Delgado is beautiful. In every way. This amazing gentlemen passed away 51 years ago and videos such as yours ensure he lives on. Your cosplay looks spot on. Your appraisal of his tenure is spot on. What a legacy! Thanks for reminding us all. You are doing a fabulous job with your videos. Thank you x
Missy's redemption arc was based on the original plan for Delgado. The Master got the arc that was being built up in Pertwee's era, it just happened decades later than it was intended to.
Delgado is the first and will always be the best. I wish newer incarnations of the character were so scheming, brooding, and debonair as Delgado, instead of manic slapstick gremlins.
Did anyone else hear that?! "I am the Master, and you will obey me." He didn't say a word... Or did he? (The head tilt is his waiting for my compliance?)
I think that would have probably been for the best. It would have made for a fantastic finale for the character. One can always write a new villain for the Doctor to face, if needed. I also think of the wonderful performance that Michael Wisher turned in for Davros. If they had let Davros die at the end of Genesis, we would look back and say “Wow.” But unfortunately they decided to bring back Davros for EVERY remaining Dalek story of the classic era. Not only did that dilute the impact of the Davros character, but it diminished the Daleks in general… as they often played second fiddle to Davros.
I think your costume was actually decent… and actually better than your Hartnell, as real hair always looks better (even if it’s sticking up a bit). If I didn’t know what you were going for, I would still think of the Master. Delgado’s hairline (with the widow’s peak) would have been hard to recreate without sacrificing some of your own hair. The goatee also needs the two grey stripes below each corner of the mouth. His goatee is also wider at the bottom. It probably required growing your own to get the right shape. But how much effort does one want to invest in a costume for a quick video? Delgado has never been bettered in the role. He brings subtlety and class that other Masters seemed to lack. The loss of Delgado was probably the biggest tragedy of the classic era.
You're totally right - if Delgado hadn't been so great the character would never have returned, we have him to thank for every subsequent appearance
Delgado - the original, and still the best. Nice tribute!
To put it simply, he is THE Master.

Lovely tribute! Every time Delgado and Pertwee were on screen together, it just sang.
I can't wait to see you as a flashing skeleton when you eventually do your John Simm video!
Remember, the 1996 TV Movie Master also had slicked back hair. Your battle against flat hair is far from over Chris!
His legacy will never be forgotten
That was actually hilarious!

Looked like a coked-up estate agent! From da eighties!😂
Delgado is just so damn good. Pitched his performance perfectly, every time, and improves every scene he’s in. Actual Legend!

Had Delgado lived his next story,"The Final Game",been made...that might have been the end of the character 🎩

More Anthony Ainely Master I thought 😂
Wait... you're really going to dress as Missy?
Getting hot under the collar are we?
@@HOTD108_ No, just doesn't seem like the kind of TH-camr I'd expect to crossdress, that's all.
