    Brady technically didn't beat Stewart in his first Championship game.
    He was injured late in the 2nd Quarter, and Drew Bledsoe came in and threw the only offensive NE touchdown of the game a couple minutes later, then continued to QB all the 2nd half.
    To a person, NE fans see the 2002 AFC Championship as Bledsoe's last win as a Patriot's QB, not as a Brady victory.

    I remember when I was a kid, I found a sports magazine (maybe the same one you’re talking about) in the library with an article about Kordell Stewart being a “Triple Threat”… I wasn’t really into football, so I didn’t know what they were talking about, but that's okay because I was looking for hockey stories anyway.
    Also, that cover with A-Rod, Kobe, Lindros and Stewart… what does that cover look like today? Maybe something like Ohtani, Luka, McDavid and Mahomes?

    Stewart wanting to be a full time QB instead of Slash tracks with him not getting enough respect (from the fans and accountants - other teams knew) as Slash. The league had specialized, only bit players slotted in at various positions: in the '90s, if you were a STAR, you had a set position.
    I wonder what would have happened if they'd kept him playing multiple roles (but had the good sense to pay and market him) as the star he was. He had a strong arm, but wasn't a great passer - BUT if you're focused on stopping him from running, that lets guys get open. Maybe he lines up as a wideout, comes around in motion to take the snap, and then can choose to continue running or throw - OR of the D doesn't bite, the snap goes to the "other" QB and Kordell goes downfield.
    I know this all sounds like wildcat high school shit, but that's exactly what Kordell Stewart was good - no, GREAT at. And if he'd continued playing the way he had his first two years (only more) he would have been one of the most entertaining and dangerous players the game ever knew.
    And I say this as someone who never liked the Steelers. I still liked Kordell Stewart. How could you not?

      @rolmodel12. 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He was shifty, with a strong arm. Not as fast as Randall Cunningham, and not even close to Vick or Lamar, but faster than most QB's at the time.
      He was not overly accurate, and they had to simplify the offense to accommodate him; but, they were a run-orriented team anyway.
      He was fun to watch and unique. Think Tebow, with better arm strength.

  • @rolmodel12.
    @rolmodel12. 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was a fun video. Brought back some memories... but, I DO have to speak up about one thing: Neil O'Donnell was NOT a "pretty good NFL quarterback". He was average, at best. He was the quintessential game manager, whose best attribute was not turning the ball over- unless it was on him to make a play. Pittsburgh won with him, but never because of him.
    Also... he threw two of the worst interceptions I have ever seen, in the '96 Super Bowl (1995 season) against Dallas.
    "Slash" was a great athlete, no doubt. But, his hype was built on him being a flashy player, on a very good team, that had multiple nationally televised games a year.

    • @JonPITBZN
      @JonPITBZN 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      O'Donnell played 5 years with the Steelers and his QB rating was above league average in all five seasons. I'd say that's pretty good. It's definitely not "average at best," since it's consistently above average.

    • @rolmodel12.
      @rolmodel12. 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JonPITBZN so, you base a QB's worth entirely on their QB rating?

    • @JonPITBZN

      @@rolmodel12., in an argument between QB rating and the subjective opinion of someone in the TH-cam comment section, I put 100% of my trust in QB rating and 0% in TH-cam comments.

    • @rolmodel12.
      @rolmodel12. 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JonPITBZN lol, fair enough.
      So, in QB rating, then, he ranked 8th, 12th, 14th (twice) and 17th out of the starting QB's in the league. In his first four season's, there were 28 teams in the NFL. In '95, there were 30.
      So, in all but 1 season, by your chosen statistic, he was "average at best". By the way, that season, was his lone Pro Bowl. So, you're right. One year (of 5) he was better than average.

    Seeing Bill Cowher as a Hall of Famer is truly asinine. He ruined one of the truly great talents in football. Every CU fan knew how great Slash was. Cowher tried to turn him into Tom Brady, and didn't even try to implement anything else. Go back and watch the Miracle at Ann Arbor. He threw that ball 75 yards at a time when no one else was doing that.
