The soundtrack of our dreams, our childhood, and our individual spirit's journey. The songs of joy and fear. Nostalgia, moments of pure innocence, pure love, and everything we have felt and then learned from, playing along as each moment within our lives spirals outward. Thank-you Simon Jeffes for your teachings of gentle compassion. Fairies are dancing on the Amanitas in the forest, the birds are singing, the sun is setting and I am thankful for each day.
I kind of grew up wih the penguin café, and still need it very much at significant junctures of my life. Simon Jeffes, what a STAR. He gives me a space of freedom , ease and tranquility in my "inner space", no matter what the world is doing to me in my - or their - "outer space"..
There is a bit of the gamelan style here. I had the fortune to stumble upon a gamelan playing at the Indonesian embassy one summer afternoon and they asked us to join. It was easy, and about as fun a a frog in a glass of milk. That I think is a taste of what it might have been like to play with PCO. Joy and whimsy.

Oh, TH-cam...why did it take so *long* for your algorithms to bring this jewel to my attention??? What an exceptional compilation, w the most exquisite readings of works I've loved for years. My goodness, to have seen them perform back in the day... Simon was simply genius and we are all poorer for his loss.
I first heard Telephone and Rubber Band at one in the morning on the radio. Either the DJ mentioned the song title, or I was fortunate enough to hear it on CBC Radio 2, which has a log of music they play. I've been listening ever since. I picked up the record a few years later, which had a label indicating it came from the CBC archives. I wonder if the first version I heard was a digitized version from that exact record.
Saw PCO live many years ago (mid-80`s), still brilliant and ahead of its time, SJ. was a one off, totally original. As a non-musician this inspired me to try the Ukulele several years back, still play and enjoy it, alas no where near PCO standard.
One of the most endearing musical discoveries. I could chill for for hours listening to the penguin cafe . It shows fractal geometry nature with a simple discourse development.
I've been looking for a live version of Ecstacy of Dancing Fleas for years. So grateful to have found this. And I love all the other performances as well. Love Simon and the PCO.
Really special. Have most of their studio albums but this comilation just shows how he music really came alive when it was played in concert. True to its folk roots, I guess. Hoedown music for our times. I wish he was still around to be the M.C. I love Arthur Jeffes (his son) and the new band but it doesn't have that same power or wildness.
Yes I agree. The music is fabulously alive and I suspect it's because of Simon's drive and passion. I like the new band as well.though. Arthur is a credit to his Dad !
EXCELENTE .
As i sit here so freaked out that we may have a broken human elected once again, destroying life in America as we know it, this came back in my feed. My sister introduced me to PCO 2 decades ago, and this music never fails to ease my heart and soul.
Such a magnificent combo of folk and classical. Two styles that have been seemingly diametrically opposed for centuries. To be an asshole, the woodblock was too high in the mix for MFaFH at least
21 years old, student at Texas State University, living in Austin, Texas. lying down next to my girlfriend who i’m deeply in love with just enjoying life. what’s up with y’all?
This is the music my wife and I fell in love to, and it has remained "our music" for 40 years. Love you, baby, and thank you Penguin Cafe Orchestra.
Simon Jeffes turned simplicity into a transcendental experience. So much joy.

A man Aye men?!
Great comments-huge fan of Simon and now his son!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Fell in love with this music many years ago when I saw David Binley's Still Life. The music is so hypnotic.
I kind of grew up wih the penguin café, and still need it very much at significant junctures of my life. Simon Jeffes, what a STAR. He gives me a space of freedom , ease and tranquility in my "inner space", no matter what the world is doing to me in my - or their - "outer space"..
Can't think of anything cooler than playing in that band. RIP Simon.

there's a mistake on the video, it's not 'Beanfields' at 13:49, it's called "Paul's Dance" :-)
nanook21 This only helps TH-cam dice it up permanently
Thank you!
thanks for posting the breakdown, appreciate it
The whole list is not correct.

I was thinking how I didnt look for Penguin cafe videos & you said youtube agorithyms wasnt good at showing this.

Saw the orchestra live in Los Angeles, April 1988; part of the UK/LA arts festival. One of the best musical experiences of my life.
Saw PCO live many years ago (mid-80`s), still brilliant and ahead of its time, SJ. was a one off, totally original.
As a non-musician this inspired me to try the Ukulele several years back, still play and enjoy it, alas no where near PCO standard.

I have a vision of Simon playing his way through the Pearly Gates and St Peter nodding his head in rhythm.
Wow.........stumbled on this by accident.......Love these guys.
Thanks for this beautiful gift!
been enjoying simon's music for many years. bummed i never had to chance to them live.
Really original band with their own great sound, and sounds so good.
Grazie, grazie, grazie!
Amazing amazing sounds and rhythms. Superb in every way. So glad I found this clip
He's right about the 5/4 beat of the phone ring, it was designed on purpose to be slightly annoying so that people would answer it quicker
Thank you pulling this all together, it is much appreciated. Probably my favourite band/music ever. Beautiful memories
Music IS music! Utterly unique band...Simon left us much too early.
Wow, Barcelona. Now that is deep in the PCO category, but it is as good as any of the more well known stuff. Absolutely stunning.
"Can't think of anything cooler than playing in that band" Exactly. Simon Jeffes - opener of minds...
there should be PCO's all ovef the world playing this mans music the way they play Bach and Chopin
Thank you
Such beautiful music that is timeless.
This is the best kind of drug - I've got work to do but keep saying 'just one more song'. I'm never going to get my chores done!!!! It's a good thing!
Really, thanks for sharing this gem !
Maravillosos...
Very nice compilation. Glad to have found it, glad you made it!
Thankyou for this download . .... cassettes now not playable! Regular revisit to PCO for uplift.
Great compilation.
my girlfreind played this albulm for me and i was like, HEY! that's Malcolm! i love that film so much
This may be common knowledge but the first song was featured in the 1986 Australian movie Malcolm.
I think there is another track used in Napolion Dynamite.
Takes me back! wonderful
There was a lovely Penguin Cafe in Aberystwyth (Pier Street) 😉
Bravo! Bella racconta di PCO.
Incredible how music can make you feel!!!! Woohoo

Onomatopoeia :the spark!
The pauses before the what was the here theres and timed to play progressive in-betweens
This is fabulous
If I had to choose only one group to listen to for the rest of my life it would be PCO.
Gracias por compartirlo, extraordinario documento.

love from ex yu serbia greeat
My favorite band!
Maybe the purest pop-classical crossover ever. If there are only 2 types of music - good and bad - this is good.
Thank you for the memories.
Amazing, thanks!
Grandissimi. Nessuno è riuscito a eguagliarli
brillant
Adorabili,
Thanks for it
thanks for this
awsome, timeless
12:47 aye never knew Eric caption played ukulele at his unplugged concert
Magical world 😍❣️

Lovely!
Ford Ka, a cara do novo!
Beautiful video! 13:49 it is Paul´s dance, not Beanfields
"Either Its music, or it isn't."
