  • PART 2- On March 22nd 2018, the Chicago Tribune published an expose regarding sexual allegations made against Bill Hybels by several women in the church. The church held a meeting on March 23rd to allow the board of elders and Hybels himself to respond and clarify details regarding the story and the article. It was simulcast to the satellite locations. I was at the Willow Wheaton location and recorded this so that I could examine it in further depth later.

    After doing some background study on Hybels and WCC, which I attended for a short time as a young person back in the early 1990s, Hybels has been consistently unrepentant and manipulative around all of this. He was at fault and he has completely disqualified himself from ANY church leadership, and even church membership outside of submitting to Biblical discipline. People need to Biblically Love their "leaders" better by demanding accountability.

    When I went there and Bill Clinton was a guest at the leadership conference and heard Bill Hybels was a "spiritual advisor" to him I didnt think much of it. I looked at Bill Hybels like father figure. Now looking back even the fact he didnt wear his wedding ring just now makes sense. My heart broke because you trust these people and expect transparency and accountability but then the light comes in and exposes the darkness and you feel numb. Just sad. Satan loves that this happens. 😞 I couldnt go back after hearing the elders covered up. Just dont like how he sits there sad looking FOR HIMSELF and flat out lying. NPD for sure.

      Yes, I'd love to know what all those folks who defended him now have to say for themselves.

    I must pray for the church left behind after this. I think that, ultimately, this church will be WAY stronger and deep into God’s Word. It’s been a year, now, and I sure hope that this congregation is stronger and more solid in Christ, than ever. I looked into this because I’d wondered how WCC was doing, and boy, was I surprised. I think God is truly going to be with these poor folks, as I’m sure so many are still hurting.
    Thank you for posting these videos. This will be important for young pastors and other congregants... We are all sinners, all fallen.

    Do you see how the devil is so busy and so happy with all of this... instead of having a church service where souls are hearing about Jesus and getting saved instead you have a bunch of people on a stage all defending a man that clearly liked flirting with women. Sad situation for everyone. I hope Willow can survive this. Thats a pretty big campus.

      What? Get your head out of the sand. Its obvious by the massive elders and pastors of the church resigning that there were things that took place that were not right. Pray for the women who had to watch Hybells and his family get a standing ovation and beg him not to leave.

      You have made yourself a judge. Jesus told us not to judge! Just pray for the man!

    • @harrycarrey1225
      @harrycarrey1225 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I have . God certainly did not tell us not to judge. Those are the words of a shallow Christian. Were the elders and pastors of the church who recently resigned being judgmental or using Godly discernment to make their decision. I left Willow Creek when I heard Hybells say that he goes on the Queen Elizabeth by himself every year to "prepare the church for the upcoming year" I used my Godly discernment and judgement to realize that it is not right for a married man to go on a cruise without his wife. Stop giving your loyalty to a man and start giving it to God. A man will let you down every time.

      Hi Rita. Bill hybels disappeared, allowed to retire (with a standing ovation) and I'm assuming he's enjoying his sailboat and living between his two homes. The church moved on quickly. The women have had to carry the weight of the aftermath of the destruction of their reputations. Why they didn't sue Hybels is beyond me but there it is.

    Steve Gillen took over. I guess one person can take Bill Hybels place. And yes-way to much about Hybels and WCC-it’s the victims who deserve our attention and sympathy. Some people never overcome this kind of abuse, regardless off all the Christianese about grace and forgiveness and prayer etc.

      Did you actually listen to what they said in this video? Why are you so quick to believe the worst about this man of God? He's a true man of God and fears God.

      Julia G I’m sorry... it is clear to me that you do not understand who Bill Hybels is. Do you know who he sites as his greatest mentor (hint: it’s not Jesus, but a secular humanist who viewed community churches as nothing more than a nexus for societal cohesion and control)? This humanist hand-picked three men, to be his mentees. Can you name the other two? Do you know what this mentor spent his life at? Do you know how he viewed Christianity? Well, Hybels loved, admired and employed this man’s principles, sitting up under this mentee (a societal control advocate and humanist) for decades. Hybels did not sit up under men of God. He wasn’t busy searching the Scriptures and chasing relationship with Christ. He was learning growth and financial principles from a secular humanist.
      Can you tell me your basis for believing Hybels is a man of God, and after God’s own heart?

    • @KristiLEvans1
      @KristiLEvans1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Julia G do you even know what you follow and call “God”? Hybels would, if he had the ability to be honest.

      Julia G I came at Hybels from the other direction, fascinated at his choice of mentor. When I checked up to see what WCC was up to, these days, I found this scandal. I AM sorry for you all, but it is a great reminder of how weak we are, as human beings. All of us. But we have to check out our leaders and test everything against Scripture. This is a great example of what can happen if we look at good works, and charisma as a form of godliness. It’s so easy to fall prey for the weaknesses of the flesh.

      @@KristiLEvans1 Not to mention that one of Hybels' mentors, Dr. B, lures women in and comes onto them and even exposes himself to them. This is a well kept secret at Willow.

    I knew there was something fishy about him when he kept bringing people hostile to the gospel to teach Christians about leadership. Left my old church because of my pastor's getting involved in the Global Leadership Summit. This truly makes me ill.

      To be clear, theological accuracy or inaccuracy doesn't have anything to do with why men assault women. Pastors who preached a perfect gospel have abused. It is critical to learn and identify the real reasons for abuse - otherwise churches will continue to foster it.

    Pastor Bill, I believe you're telling the truth. May God strengthen you and help you through this. Jesus was lied about too, so it's a good sign that you're on the right track. I'm currently reading your book 'Just Walk Across the Room' and I'm really being blessed by it. Maybe you should write a book about this!!

      Thank you for so perfectly demonstrating exactly how powerful predators get away with abusing multiple people. It's folks like yourself who protect and defend that which should never be defended. May God have mercy on you for causing the oppressed to stumble!

  • @KristiLEvans1

    Can anyone tell me what the tipping point was? Did people stop believing Hybels because Maureen Girkins came forward? It’s interesting (and fast) that the congregation cheered and supported him in March, and his staff was apologizing and stepping down by August. What caused people in the congregation to change their view?

    • @brandybobandy2194
      @brandybobandy2194  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well to be clear, Hybels didn't step down, he retired on his own terms. About a month after the story came to light, he decided to get out while most people still believed he was a victim of vengeful women and were giving him standing ovations. This allowed the mystery of his percieved innocence to linger much longer. It was five and a half agonizing months later when Pat Baranowski came forward in the New York times, and Steve Carter resigned and said he believed the women. That was when people slowly started to wake up. But the congregation never admitted their grave sin in idolizing and protecting a sexual predator, never apologized to the women, and subsequently tried to just quietly "move on".

    Sad to see these unfortunate events unfold, but this church has women elders and a female pastor? Typical of progressive culture-pleasers. In light of 1 Timothy 2 and Titus 1, how do you explain this?

    • @brandybobandy2194
      @brandybobandy2194  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Clergy sexual abuse happens in every style of church and even religion. It has absolutely nothing to do with theology. It has to do with the clergy's lust for power over everyone, esp the women he targets and grooms, and his desire to humiliate their husbands. It has to do with a man with too much power and fame to be served consequences. And it has to do with how all human communities have huge populations that surround the predator to protect him. Please get educated about this, it does the church further harm for you to blame women for the sins of abusive men.

    • @brandybobandy2194
      @brandybobandy2194  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dennis Yen That has zero to do with why abusers abuse.
