I have been to Belur and Halibedu 4 times so far and I can't wait to visit again. Everytime i visited, i was mesmerized the same way I felt first time. I have visited a lot of temples in Andhrapradesh, Tamilnadu, Karnataka and odisha and I can say that these two temples are on the top of my list in terms of the sculptures, intricate designs. They are so beautiful and you would wonder how someone can carve such intricate sculptures.
I am from Bangalore and this place is around 240 km or maybe a little less than that.
If you happen to visit India, you must visit Belur, Halibedu and Sravanabelagola (Bahubali statue).

I am from West Bengal, I have gone to this temple in 2012. It was amazing. You will feel that you are at that time. If you go to our South part of India you will see the very rich culture of India. And if you want to enjoy each year of your life just roam throughout India you will be amazed by the significant diversity but somewhere you will feel the link between everything. India is a land of joy, vibrancy, success, love, respect, romance and pure emotion. If you are a foodie just come to India where every state will offer you different types of foods. If you want to experience the world in a nutshell then travel all over India you will find every type of land and weather here. Here people know how to remain happy in their worst time. India is a country where elder and wise people get respect over wealth.

They took around a century in carving these monuments.
In belur there is a pillar of height of 42 fts. This pillar(cuboid shaped) was designed 900 yrs ago with a blend of physics. Its specialty is that it stands only on 3 edges. A piece of paper can pass through the another corner upto half of its basal thickness......!

Very happy to see this reaction. I have been to this temple. In fact travelled from Bangalore to Hassan only to see the temples of Belur and Halebidu. There was so much that could have been said about the sculptures. If you engage a guide they will guide you for 45-1 hr and even then so much more could be said. Each sculpture is a story of its own. To me its mindboggling the level of creativity, imagination the architects and sculptors of that time possessed besides their skill and perfectionism. I loved your passion for this temple, believe me when you see it, you would lose your breath! Come to Bangalore, we will have a masala dosa and travel to Belur and Halebid which are around 4-5 hrs by road. I would like to see these temples again. Its been over 10 years when I saw them last!

I have been to this temple when I was an child of I think maybe 9 or 10. Even in that age I was so mesmerized by the sheer beauty of the carvings and intricacy. Especially the row of elephants at the bottom. I distinctly remember the guide telling us that the elephants are literally carrying the weight of the entire temple on their backs.

Hello, a kannadiga from Karnataka, India! A brief history of the temple Halebeedu( old country ) was the glorious capital of Kannada empire known as "Hoysala Empire" (10th -14th Century) ruled all of south india. literally means "Beast killer Empire" in vernacular kannada language which is the official mother tongue language indian state Karnataka. The Hoysala Empire during the last king the veeraballala the 3rd protected all of south india from muslim invasion but unfortunately with partial success and win, he was caught in the battle by trachery and was skinned to death and was hung in front of fort wall but his will was inherited by his brave Military marshals "Akka and Bukka Raya" who would go on to find the glorious"vijayanagara Empire"( A pan south indian empire headed under kannada kingsmenship) rising like a pheonix from ashes of Hoysala Empire would go on protect south india 250 years untill European and British invasion and colonization.

Shantala the Queen mastered 61 Arts which include - Architecture , Science , Mathematics , Music , Dance etc .... She was the one who did the blueprint of this temple .... And the carvings of the temple are all inspired by her in various poses - these carvings were based on the paintings made by the king and the carvings are said to have the same face of the Queen ...

Seen this many times , am from Bangalore, very beautiful, the carving are a must in all temples the positive energy inside is very high , u have to visit temples it's there whole of South India. I think there should be more than a few lakh temples it takes more time to cover each and every temple. Every time we go on tour we try to cover one or two at once even it's on our way to our destination,

Hey rossi this is nearest to my hometown chikmagalur but it belongs to Hassan district I used to visit this temple during my childhood and had less knowledge those time about this architecture but both halebidu and belur chennakeshava temple are breathtakingly beautiful but most of the outside carwings are destroyed it's the living proof of some ancient technology used to build these temples a must visit place once in lifetime ❤️🔥

This temple has some of the statues are hollow and you can get the sound of drums in them . plus it has on big stone pole outside you can pass a news paper beneath. I do not know how this stands without resting on the base. We know very little of this amazing architecture.
