Im not really up I n gay culture, but I will say this black and Latinos were and are the trendsetters for thay culture, like i was vorn this way i though was lady gaga and Madonna ripped off vogue... I love the fact we are trendsetters in every type of culture music dance etc
How? I actually became interested in learning more about the culture because of her album. I got to know about Kevin, Moi Renee and Big Freddie just because of her. How is that ruining? Would you rather they remain underground all their lives?
They will always hate on us then steal our culture once it becomes “hip” to make it mainstream and have the audacity to claim they created it in the first place.
My cousin used to show us his pictures from his days in the New York City Ballroom Scene....we loved it. This was the mid to late 90's and we were so small that we didn't truly appreciate it nor understand it. We lost him to AIDS in '99. Now that we are adults we all cry because he didn't live to see the global appreciation of what they did...so we used to have POSE watch parties in his honor and we still have a Drag Ball every year for his birthday and we participate in PRIDE events and support local chapters. We have 4 cousins born on his birthday so it's a huge weekend long bash!!! We love you and miss you...R.I.P....J.I.B.💋💋💋
You all did appreciate it every though y'all was young because your older cousin was sharing his life with you all. If he didn't share his life and adventures in NYC ballroom scene you and your cousins wouldn't have the great memories of him now.

While the ballroom scene of the 80s-90s was being developed in the States, Europe had its own club scene, specially in places like Sweden and Switzerland, and amongst the more notable movements, the underground club scene of the lgbtq clubs in Easter Germany was born. Music has always been the strongest voice of the lgbtq community, and the renaissance of house music (both Black and European) of the 2020s has been one of the best things to happen in the recent years.
I religiously watch all of your videos, this has to be the one closest to my heart. I love ballroom and grew up watching uploads of the latex ball and Kiki balls and now getting ready to make my debut, love this so much!!!
...And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let's not forget gospel/shouting beats and how they would take you to church on a Saturday night at Traxx in D.C. OMG! I lose my mind on Small Black Church!♥
