Holy goodness was I about to do that completely wrong. I was looking for a video on how to cut the other end of the belt and make it look good LOL. Thanks for this Common Sense tutorial, something I obviously lack
Just got a Ferragamo belt that was way to big. I had the same idea/ cut hole side and do new holes. Idk how I blanked on this other then most my belts before have been perm buckles.
The instructions in the video are for designer belts that are purchased as "cut-to-size". If your belt has a snap on it, it is not designed to be cut to size and the only thing that you can really do is to have a few extra holes punched in so that it will fit properly. Most local shoe repair or leather shops can add holes as needed.
Those types of belts are not "cut to size" and would have to be worked on by a leather craftsperson. Alternately, you can add more holes but that can affect the look and function of the belt.
This video is for belts that are meant to be cut to size. If the buckle does not release, then it is not meant to be cut to size and is usually attached to the belt in a way that would require a leather craftsperson to take it apart and restitch it or at least make additional holes so that it will fit.
What about the seams along the edges? Won't those start to unravel if I just cut them like that and don't use anything to secure the now loose ends of the threads?
I actually would, and did. :) I used black nail polish to fill the last hole along each thread, right before the cut, and that glued both threads' ends in place nicely - nothing stands out or looks bad and nothing's unraveling so far.
Glad this video helped. If you have any other questions you would like answered regarding leatherworking, post them in the comments section of our videos.
You should line up the hole that fits you on your current 7-hole belt with the middle hole on your new belt. That way, if you gain or lose weight, it will work fine.
Thanks a million my this belt was hella big my dad actually bought for him so he didn't like it he was like u take it I'm gonna put in some holes in them I told him nah I'll do something
Does your belt have a sewed in buckle? If so, then it's not designed to be cut to size and you probably should get a new one. If it doesn't, the buckles have a built in lever that holds and releases the leather strap. You can see the lever is depressed to close in on the leather at 1:14 in the video. Doing the reverse would release the belt.
+Mami Burger Hi Mami, all such buckles have a built in lever that holds and releases the leather strap. You can see the lever being depressed to close in on the leather at 1:14 in the video. Doing the reverse would release the belt. I hope that helps.
Thank you so much !!!!!
I dont know why it never occurred to me to CUT THAT SIDE?
Thanks for the video, I needed to see how to do it before purchasing my first cut to fit belt! Thanks again!

Glad we are able to help. Let us know what other types of video guides you would like to see from us.

Me too🤦♀️
Unfortunately many belts don't have a buckle that just clip on like this one. So in those cases you may have to cut the other end.

woah! It's so easy! Thank you!
What if the buckle doesn't have a release?
Thanks for this, sir!
Thank you for the tip ! Also i lkke your watch which one is it?
Thank you so much for this video!!
What brand sheers are you using to cut your belts? Reason i'm asking my regular sheers didn't work.
What do you do if your belt has a snap to secure the buckle on. If I trim the belt, it removes the snap and the ability to put the buckle back on.

What if I can’t remove the buckle because it’s stitched in?

Thank you so much I didn’t think of this

You wouldn't cut belts with stitching to size. If the belt becomes stretched or not the right size, we suggest you replace it.

You're the MacGyver of belt repair as when cutting belts with stitched seams can be difficult if you don't know what you're doing.
can you use scicors on a mcm
You'll have to ask MCM if that's the preferred way to adjust the length of their products.
What do you do if the belt has a stitch line? I'm just worried it will unravel over time if I cut it.

MCM is too expensive for you to be doing that lol
oscar PINA that's what you're supposed to do
It's really helpful! Thank you!
Thanks so much! I've lost four inches off my waist and want to use my favorite belt.

what do i do if my old belt has 7 holes and the one i need to shorten has 5?

Thank you very much it worked
Thank you great vid :)
Removing the buckle is the only hard part, and you skip how to do it. No one knows how the heck to remove it...

I was happily adding holes to my belt one day thinking I was losing weight... but I later learned my abdomen was stretching the leather belt.
Sounds like it's time for a new belt bit.ly/2lLpftO.
