As far as I can tell the tool is necessary if you are removing the the gear drive from the camshaft.
My question is if you are removing and replacing the same camshaft is it necessary to remove the gear?
I have to change a valve seal and will be keeping the same cam if it's ok, do I need to use the tool?

Hello, your videos are very useful, thank you, I have a VW Touareg 2.5Td. R5 Bac.
I have seen that they use oil to grease the seats of the tree, but I do not know which fluid is the one they use (Blue or Pink) for the adjustments of the end of the tree and if it is essential, since at disassemble it, I did not appreciate that it had any type of paste.
Is it essential to have the setting kit to adjust the camshaft?

@@AjusaAutomotive He probably meant if camshaft with lifters can be changed without removal of engine from the vehicle (as VW service manual states for R5 tdi TOUAREG that engine must be removed prior cylinder head servicing).
@@uploader49 OK. The VW service manual indicates the engine must be removed, but we did the repair without remove the engine. Best regards
