    Very clear instructions. Also, your audio is steady and understandable. Some other sites have poor audio quality.

    Thank you for sharing this beautiful instrument and what it can do. Always drawn to the beats and I didn’t know where it originated . I’m still not sure actually because its found in ancient Africa as well as North America.
    All I know is I grabbed a cake pan and discovered I’m a natural at it..

    Kalani, Great Videos here! I have an “opinion” question about slaps. Sometimes I use a conga slap instead of the traditional djembe slap. It has at least in my experience a much sharper effect. Do you feel I should stick to djembe slaps?

    • @Misterdandamanify
      @Misterdandamanify 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say that congaslaps are pretty cool but the djembeslap doesn't make your hand stop... on the drums head

      Try to get a West African-made drum, from Guinea, Mali, or Ivory Coast. I'm not sure who is selling drums in India. If you can't find anyone there, email me through my website, kalanimusic.com.

    There are some additional accompaniments that are not demonstrated here I suggest that you do some more research and update this video to avoid confusion. With all due respect these traditional African rhythms have been preserved and passed down for centuries its important not to distort them especially if you decide to teach.

    mouaih pas terrible.. toi même n'a pas l'air au point avec ta technique de frappes, tes roulements sont très moyens (ceux de la fin sonnent particulièrement mauvais)... et sur Yankadi, même pour débuter, y'a bien mieux à travailler..(signé : un joueur qui a appris à jouer le djembé et le dunun kassunké en cours et dans des mariages à Bamako et à la recherche de phrases potentiellement intéressantes sur TH-cam). Y'a une bien meilleure vidéo d'initiation à Yankadi par Raphael Hofmann, un belge, qui à largement le niveau d'un maître djembefola.

      Try playing |tsstss|tsstss|tsss-s|s-bttt| at first, then replace every "t" in |tsstss| with double strokes by inserting an additional tone inbetween "t" and "s".

    Love this lesson n rhythm! Is there a particular reason you’re playing bass w ur left hand during second rhythm? In the first rhythm you start w right. I was thinking from other vids that you are right-handed(?) Just wondering if there’s a particular reason for switching the starting hand. Thank you so much for sharing these!

    • @Countreemonkee
      @Countreemonkee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Late to the party on this, but it is because he is playing the bass tone with his left hand before the one. His left hand hits on the and of four from the previous bar and then his right hand slaps on the one to continue the rhythm. No idea if you're still interested, but hope this helps if you are 🙏

    I thought playing a hand drum while wearing a ring is a "no-no" because you can damage the drum or flatten the ring.
