True story, this past weekend I was cleaning up and cleaned off a cluttered table in my shed and found a bag of Jewelry we had forgotten about months ago and never opened. Found 3 gold rings in it worth about $500.
@georgiavol1602 not trying to up you, I also had some old jewelry that I had bought over 6 years ago. I found a necklace that had a different type of clasp. I looked and it said 14k and I had wanted a chain necklace. So had to go to Kay's jewelry store and it was appraised at $3,000. Then I found another necklace and it was marked 750. Chinese mark their jewelry with numbers like that. It is 18k gold. I was so excited. That's approximately $1,000. It really blows my mind that 2pieces of jewelry are equal to what I paid for a stove, refrigerate, and washer. Mind blowing!!! Congrats on your finds also. That's exciting!
I have to tell you jack , a lot of us still read and would by a box of books . I certainly do at yard sales , usually at one dollar each . Please don't throw any away
I know what you mean, it’s a shame to hear someone have such a low opinion of books. But, I try to take into account he’s a reseller. It’s still disheartening, new books, even paperbacks are so expensive, especially, for an avid reader, and you love to be able to find sellers who are willing to sell books.
He’s tried to sell them with no luck, and while you might be willing to pay a buck each, I doubt you’d be willing to pay for shipping for them. I think he usually donates them to resale shops.
48:03 As an online bookseller I want to say those boxes are not totally worthless. I understand you don’t sell books but please consider donating the books to your local library before you just throw them in the trash. Most libraries have yearly sales and you have thousands of dollars in books there that they could sell to raise money and they almost always accept donations.
Welcome to the channel; I guess you're new, based on some of your assumptions. We took most of the books from this locker to Savers, which is 2 blocks away. Three full truck loads so far, and another going today. Libraries here don't take them here. Just because I don't sell them, I've said many times that I'm happy to donate and let them make the money. A portion of their proceeds also goes to charity, but even just to benefit Savers is cool with me, as a lot of pickers also source there so it goes around and ultimately keeps them out of the landfill. But sometimes based on condition or subject matter, the dump or recycle is proper.
@@LockerNutsgreat response Jack. Sums up your philosophy of “keep it out of the landfill” to be inspirational. I also appreciate the little side notes that so many folks don’t catch - like the time you told the shoeless woman in Stockton (in Winter) that she could just take any pair of shoes that fit. Or that when anyone asks the price of a Bible, it’s free. All those little things can help out so much, especially when you catch someone at just the right time. The Lord only knows how often your example may have given someone the will to keep fighting one more day!
I think several of the pipes are meerschaum pipes. I found the following on Wikipedia. They can be quite valuable. 'Meerschaum does not burn and floats in water. It softens when wet, but hardens again when dried. Meerschaum, which expels moisture due to its porous structure, is therefore used in pipe making. When smoked, meerschaum pipes gradually change color, and old meerschaum pipes will turn incremental shades of yellow, orange, red, and amber from the base on up. When prepared for use as a pipe, the natural nodules are first scraped to remove the red earthy matrix, then dried, again scraped and polished with wax.'
hey @lockernuts I think the pipe you show at 48:26 (turquose) is similar to one my grandfather had, its called a meerschum (spelling) pipe 18th century and from austria if so the fittings are going to be silver its a very very cool and expensive piece ~1k for just the base as the necks were meant to be changed around
17:20 Those tools, I believe the wooden handled one is a hand held mold that would be used to cast bullets, or possibly fishing lures or sinkers. I would suspect the other one may be along the lines of that also.
16:21 crochet hooks have a hook on the end. And knitting needles have one or two points. The ones you had were knitting needles. 33:58 in the stacked basket. The frames and circles are for small embroidery and cross stitch.
The Louis L’amour and other westerns might’ve been worth taking to a used bookstore to sell, but possibly not. He was an excellent writer, I believe I’ve read all of his published novels.
Jack, look carefully at the white pipes; they very well could be Turkish Meerschaum and they would be pricey today - I noticed a label in the one you opened -
Gorge Jenson acorn pattern serving pieces. Very valuable. Silver plated will have that blue color on it when tarnished. Sterling will be more gray or black when tarnished. Some of those silver plate serving pieces are still valuable on eBay with the holidays coming up.
Those lists remind me of the guy I went to elementary school through high school that wrote down every America's Top 40 from 1978 through the time we gratudated high school in 1989. Huge Casey Kasem fan. Even did a spot on impression.
Hi Jack, The pipes are carved from a soft stone called 'Meerschaum'. A meerschaum pipe is a smoking pipe made from a fine light white clayey mineral that is a hydrous magnesium silicate found chiefly in Asia Minor and is used especially for tobacco pipes. They could come from Turkey, Germany, or even Italy. Look for a spot on them that has not had skin oils on it and touch your tongue to it. It will stick like glue as it will absorb the moisture on your tongue. The wood one with a top hat is more than like American and could date to the Civil War time. These have value and should not go to the flea markets. The broken pipe stems are most likey amber.
Jack, there are coffee table books that sell quite well. Especially art and travel ones. I know it'll take time, which i realize you don't have a lot of, but I think you'd be happy with the results!
It’s so funny, some of the stuff you’re just like “eh, whatever” I’m screaming at my monitor wishing I could find. 😂😂😂 I have to keep reminding myself that you deal in a lot of volume mining for the diamonds, you don’t have time to mess with VHS and DVD’s. Love that you know how to process a unit though, leading a lot of do’s and don’t before I take the plunge and buy my first unit.
I have never seen fancy pipes like that before! I would love one of those church wardens. Those are the long stem pipes by the way, like what Bilbo and Gandolf are using in the fellowship of the ring.
Gosh Jack you hit a lick with the pipes. I bought a lot of old change purses off ebay. I got this change purse that was kind of strange. I threw it back on eBay and if I remember correctly I made more then I paid for the bag of change purses together. I didn't know it was a tobacco pouch for pipes. If I remember correctly it was 4"x3" with a zipper and the guy who bought it was excited to get it! So I hope you the best for the sell of the pipes!
What you were calling stamps are printer's blocks, usually from newspapers. There's a bit of a market for them here in Australia, I don't know if there is in America (advertisement blocks for iconic brands probably sell the best here)
I sure hope so! Honestly I was hoping to find a lot more collections like this in there, but it's been sparse. Right now I'm about to head out for my last day of digging through this remaining boxes, so fingers crossed I find a little bit more goodies.
Probably I'll need to identify the higher end ones, see if I can find sold comps for similar pieces, and sell them individually. Then put the rest of them in larger lots.
His mother spent thousands of dollars on crafts. I saw cross stitch kits in there that cost so much new. Silks etc too. I spend a lot on those here in England. If you are willing to sell it, you should get a decent amount.
We still have a Half Priced Books, and it's literally up the street from Savers. Like, a half block away, if that even. I stopped going there because they take a very long time to scan in all the books, and make you wait in the store while they do it. After 1-2 hours they say that I have $23.40 in books, and it's a option of accept or take all the books away type of deal. I always take it, but my time is not worth that. Sorry, but it really isn't. I'd rather drop at the Savers donation, 2 minutes in and out, and let them make the money, and then I'll go home and list a couple items on eBay with the found time.
On Wednesday here in York Region it's supposed to be 23 but feel like 27 with humidity so hopefully it is not 🚫 going to be that temperature down there.
For selling on FBM, best way to deal with lowballers is to just block them. Eventually your audience will get manicured to not have them keep bothering you. Of course there will be more, but at least the same ones can't come back with the same account.
The Louie La'Mourer (spelled wrong) and max brand westerns are all worth money. They are very hard to find for us collectors of favorite westerns. Try checking before you knock books. It seems your show is all about YOUR profit not what people will buy.

Remember your train lockers??? Think of the crafting items as trains for women! Also...all the silverware, sterling or plate is vintage. The Japan knives are mid-century and collectible. Don't be too fast sending all that stuff to the market.
Ummm.... no. Women are not messaging me offering hundreds of dollars for crafting items, like I received on the train items. And for the big lots we've been selling on Whatnot (boxes full of needlepoint, cross stitch, etc.) we have to break $100 on a single lot. More like $30-$40 if we are lucky, some selling less than $10.
Jack, the person may have had Autism Spectrum Disorder and made lists as part of his perseveration. My son has Asperger’s syndrome and does a lot of this kind of thing.

Well finally, Jack be a happy guy now. 😅. The pipes are fantabulous and oh the cameras. I love the old stuff a whole lot. 😊❤

Yes, my Dad had one and they are worth money. He was so proud of his.
Pipes can be worth a lot of money, even the broken ones.
The pipes and camera equipment were a great find. Also crafting items should sell well. I cant wait to see the rest of the locker 😊
Gorgeous pipe collection and so many other cool stuff, Jack! Love the surprise treasures you find in some of these lockers. Happy week, 'Nuts!
The pipes are cool! I love all this old stuff.
Hello Jack. Let's see what's left inside of this abandoned storage unit. You've got some great stuff Jack. Everything else looks awesome.

That roll of needles you crochet needles is not crochet but Knitting needles . You could sell them on whatnot because those needles are still usable.
17:20 Those tools, I believe the wooden handled one is a hand held mold that would be used to cast bullets, or possibly fishing lures or sinkers. I would suspect the other one may be along the lines of that also.

Wow, Jack! Just wow, wow, wow! Janna would have loved those pipes.
Jack, look carefully at the white pipes; they very well could be Turkish Meerschaum and they would be pricey today - I noticed a label in the one you opened -

There are a LOT of rules around ivory items, might want to look up what applies to the items you found ! Very cool and SO MANY haha
I have never seen fancy pipes like that before! I would love one of those church wardens. Those are the long stem pipes by the way, like what Bilbo and Gandolf are using in the fellowship of the ring.

Love watching! Just curious why you don’t combine everything into 1 unit so you don’t have to rent both of them
I didn't rent both of them, only one
Those are knitting needles and lots of them! ❤
I'm pretty sure those NFL picks and writing notebooks are from someone that was incarcerated. Its a betting log etc
That rescue mask is for CPR the pipes hand carved and ivory can still bring in a couple bucks
I had that very same thumper toy when I was a kid. I don’t think it was a happy meal prize, but I don’t really remember now.

Sorry about all the books.
If the guy actually published a book, you may have the original draft.
True, but I researched him before I bought it, and no matches on a famous author, so alas, not this time.
Even silverplated prices have gone up

Hi Jack
Pipes eBay it on the antique pipes those are high dollar pipes
Sterling is marked sterling on the piece.
Or if British it has hallmarks, not the word Sterling, I carry a magnifier with me when sorting so I can read detail like that. British silver plate is usually marked EPNS (electro-plated nickle silver) and sometimes the EPNS letters are made to look somewhat like hallmarks, thus the magnifier helps a lot. Worth learning to identify English hallmarks if you're not familiar with them - I am in Australia, so we get a lot more English sterling silver here, but it definitely turns up in America.

I wish that I was able to get a lot of the craft stuff but I’m nowhere near you
We sell them on Whatnot, and they ship all over the country as well as Canada, Australia, UK and a bunch of other far places. And they've been selling for cheap too!
